What a fantastic time capsule, when Nascar racers actually looked like the cars that were on the road back in the day, and the pit lane technicians seemingly partaking a few of the sponsor's products while tuning the cars up.

And it's gone forever. Look for red meat, tailgating, barbeques, and pickup trucks to go away soon, along with NASCAR. Thanks Democrats! Ultimately, we must blame ourselves, the people who allowed things to get where they are today.

My Dad was a local firefighter during this time, and the track would hire locals to work in the events. He worked the first in 1969 and several years afterward mainly in the pits. My first event was 1973 Winston 500 with the 19 car pile up on the backstretch in front of the stands where we sat. Saw the accident that took the life of Tiny Lind first hand. Went to Talladega events for nearly 40 years even camping out many times. Culminating with driving on the track in 2004, a birthday gift from my Dad with the Petty Driving Experience. So Talladega has a place in my heart over the years.

Cool video, when I was a kid my mother stopped by Bobby Allisons house, knocked on the door, and his wife answered. She showed us his trophy room, and we got some cool little autographed cards of Bobby standing near his car. My mother was a native of Hueytown, and that is where Bobby lived. She didn't know them, and I was suprised that Bobby's wife welcomed us in. Nice people for sure.

Poor Dave Marcus! He was an independent driver in the 90s with Big Apple Market. Being a NC native and raised their in the 70s&80s, there weren't too many degrees of separation between you and someone involved in NASCAR. A friend of mine, who graduated from NC State in 1990, was friends with Dave Marcus or his son (I can't remember) and he would go help the team out in the pits on weekends when the race was in Va., N.C. or S.C.. Later in the 90s, I would go out their Dynamic Wreckers (a sponsor) and drive one of the tow trucks around the course at the start of the race at Charlotte. That was an experience, my foot was all the way to the floor and the pace car and the pack had just about gone all the way around and were coming up behind us, just in time for us to duck into the pits. We got 1 lap & they got 2 then the race started. After Dale Earnhardt died, I lost all interest in the sport.

I remember back in the early days of online racing (Nascar 2 n 3), there was a particular group of racers known as 'Degaheads'. I wasn't rabid, I drove all tracks, but Dega was always the prime arena to battle.

Back then, Winston would stack packs of free cigarettes on small tables in the garage area, and women weren’t allowed to be in pits or garage area.
Our ford had a secret weapon, an ash tray and cigarette lighter, so the driver could smoke during the cautions.
