So.. My clan cheesed this and found an easy 5 star strategy. Basically, don't use BBs, use all Atlantas and rush both aerodomes. You can Radar and spot the Aerodomes at start and nuke them in about 150 shell hits. This will stop the mines from spawning.
i did not know that. i will have to give it a try. does this also work at the start before the planes show up?
or you can also use cruisers who can use smokes (U.K and CMW cruisers) since it can cover up most of your team from being attacked from coastal guns, planes, and DDs
you can also try use eendracht (tier 7 netherlands) as i tested it during test server its preety good
@@joedoe6444 Yes, you have one Atlanta beline it to the west shore Aerodome and another to the southern shore. Get close to make sure radar covers the location. You can do this before the AA guns are killed

worked well for the first games and got 5 stars both times, the 3rd game however could not be won due to the fact all 5 other players seemed to be in their very first game. it was ugly.

Was gonna comment on this too, also, Potato build a secondary build on a Battleship in your port that has the greatest main batter range and as much secondary range and amount of guns as possible. Your BB play will be more enjoyable.
@@christophermavromatis7724 W Virginia 44 is pretty good here. the secondaries make short work of the schnellbotten and they're decent against the DDs too.
@@mathiasrryba Yeah building into them and do pretty well at 5km or so. Tier 10 secondary guns do a lot of work. The problem with WV is that the shore guns will rip you apart since you are so slow, and so will the real DD's before you can properly kill them.

Something to note about BXP earnings in this op is that any ship which can handle the S-boats and DDs will always outscore everyone else. If you can get a large share of damage on the ships, you'll topscore even if you don't participate in dealing with the shore emplacements. I do think this needs to be revised so structure damage is rewarded more.
Yep. I cleared 300 mines and 5 minefields in my Sims to support the div, and scored 486 BXP. Meanwhile, Atlanta mate with 11 kills - 2300 bxp
It has a lot of bugs, and it is very very difficult to get 5 stars. I managed to get 5 only once. Beside that it is very boring after a few games. I played only Flint and Huron. The most annoying bug is the gun range, you have 13km range but you need to get to 11km in ordsr to hit the AA or the forts.
I got 5 stars first go with 1 straousbourg, 1 KGV , 2eerandrachts and 2 Atlanta's, but the enemy dd spawns can be nasty haha
It's not a bug, it's because gun range applies to targets on sea level and is tied to gun elevation. If a target is above sea level you have to get closer. It is the same in Killer Whale op
It is a bug, those guns aren't on the Matterhorn.
It is possible to hit elevated targets at max range. You need to zoom out a long distance until your guns are able to elevate without restrictions.

Boise is a solid cruiser in this op, if you have it. One of the very few t7s with a superheal.

i found the west Virginia being the only really good BB for this. the secondaries take care of the schnellboots very effectively, and they can hammer the objectives without having to leave the back line much.
With secondary build or standard build?
Renown 44 it's a good option to pick.

Agincourt can work here as well if you want to farm credits. It being lower tier makes it earn more credits when killing those tier 8 dds. Though of course you're completely defenseless against the german torpedo bombers who just torp you with impunity.

I tried it a far bit in public test and did a couple of games yesterday and TBH it's a frustrating experience and ultimately a bit boring. Those tiny German patrol boats are very annoying and difficult to hit especially if you have a BB or cruiser with slow lofty shells and the minefields are even more annoying. And then depending on what size shells you have you either just over-pen or non-pen the AA and gun emplacements. I've tried a number of ships and still haven't found one which suits it perfectly. It's nice to have new game modes but this one certainly did need a bit more testing as it was obvious in public test that some adjustments would be needed to make it fun.
great video .. ysterday when playing this i tried with flint and loved the flint in it. But i found with a couple of BBs with good(ish) secondaries and spected commander for secondaries i could sit back close to spawn and help with the coastal stuff while helping in the final spawn hopefully people today people will start getting better with the ASW on mines and to not sail as a single block
I was having a hard time with this one for sure. The PT boats crush at Mach 20 and I also feel like the German DDs have some insane speed going on. I wouldn't be surprised if they are going 50-60 knots for some reason. The spotting of the ground targets is annoying too.
If you have a hard time hitting the s-boats its not because they are bouncing in the water. Turn off rough seas in your game options so the visuals dont distract your aim.
I have one thing i noticed, the airfields take full citadel damage from battleship AP, i managed to do 120k in one salvo on california, so BB AP seems to be extremely good against them especially since you basically can't miss.

For me, the issue was even taking WeeVee 44 or DoY, the costal batteries being well with in my main battery, I could hit them due to terrain for some reason until I was sub 10km away.
Same in Atlanta and Fiji
The code for the operation has the Mines seperate which means that they spawn certain times during the match.
The Z DD's at the end spawn from whichever corner your closest to.

I find the operation relatively easy when there is a minimum of cooperation.
Battleships are useless, just take light cruisers with depth charges. If you don't have one, just follow someone who does.
Divide you into 2 groups then send a ship after the first wave of planes which will spot the bunkers intercepted the destroyers which will attack the convoy.
This is the best operation we have at the moment. If it were easier, it would just be boring as hell.
I try lots of BB, i find the french BB Lyon with secondary work very well.
I've played 2 rounds with Atlanta where I moved up to blind fire the airfields. Both times I managed to take out 20-25% of their health before they were ever spotted so it can be done.
My biggest issue so far trying to get 5 stars is other people not playing the objectives. They don't kill the shore guns, they don't try to kill the airfield, they just stay grouped up and die to the baby dd's.
I'm enjoying the mode though. And it's helping with the Dockyard grind a lot.
I took Rodney for my first try as well... It didn't go so good, though I outlasted all my teammates by about half the round. Rodney just doesn't have the DPM to solo....
This mode really hammers it home of how dangerous Torpedo boats were to BBs and some cruisers IRL.
You need a gunboat destroyer or lots of small quick firing guns/secondaries to hit it reliably.
There are from my testing 2 viable BB's for this mode: Nelson and Virginia 44. Especially the latter destroys coastal guns and airfield alike but she's terribly slow. The secondaries (if built for) are really good versus the small schnellboats.
Nelson's He shells make short work of most things and the super heal keeps her alive but you'll need help versus the schnellboats and neither BB can clear any Minefield in time (even if built for that specifically).
Any other BB is a waste of space in this mission the turret traverse make main armament neigh unusable except for the coastal targets. Another 2 good cruisers are Fiji (I got my 5-star win with her) and Flint so you can smoke up and don`t take too much damage from the coastal guns (or steal the enemies' smoke).

Atlanta AP deals significant damage to the coastal guns (in the 1,000's per salvo) not as much damage as HE with the secret document. With Atlanta's fast shell switch, it is easy to go back and forth when shooting ships or coastal guns. This can allow picking the two secret documents that address the DDs and the one that addresses the Schnell boats.
The aerodromes situation might be because of the same spotting logic as enemy ships in other operations. They have a stationary collision box before first spotting but the object does not actually exists (the collision box is only used to calculate spotting distance), thus you you hit them but there is no HP pool to register the damage. They are only initialized into real objects after the first spotting and then when hit again the damages can be registered. From an implementation level that saves memory, but from player experience perspective it's pretty bad...
My biggest problem with the operation, honestly, is that the Coastal Guns begin to fire before they're even built. Sometimes, I destroy an AA Gun and like 30 seconds later, I begin to get shelled by the gun that's about to take its place and I can't fire back to destroy it, since the gun doesn't actually exist, but it can nevertheless shoot at me.
yeah that got me a few times in the beginning too. Seen many players dying to those coastal guns long before the guns are possible to be even shot at.
Because they haven't been spotted by aircraft yet. They don't get 'built'
Boise is pretty fun too. High dpm and a heal helps alot as a cruiser. I did try agincourt too but its just too slow to help out.
And it has no AA... I tried that too.
tried with Belfast, noticed doing bugger all for dmg to the coastal guns, switched to AP and started doing 15k+ per salvo.
my first game in this operation I got 5 stars. But since then it has been a struggle. Been playing the Atlanta a lot, every time has been on the left flank.
its day 3 now and there are still players that don't know you can use ASW to clear the mines. others just wonder around aimlessly. there are WAY to many players bringing slow ass US BBs to this. the rewards are lacking, and you need 15 stars to get just one signal container at the bonus level. the only saving grace for the mode is the credits and BXP you can earn.
I love when Battleship guns do fuck all to all targets. And also how the range and speed of BBs make them just completely inept. Also those coastal guns fire so quickly and so *accurately!*
Got 4 stars, only star we missed was the "Destroy Hostile DD's" got 3/7, the rest didn't even spawn, was slightly frustrated, then remembered I'm playing a wargaming title.
adding splash dmg like subs could be a good way to make the pt boats less annoying, other than that, and the aerodome thig, this mode is a lot of fun, and the Base exp you can get from it is nice, made the last dockyard mission for 60k base exp trivial, got it done within like 2 days and I now have ol whisky in my port.
WV 44 is solid at taking out the DDs and the S boats but the gun range bugs force you to get within range of the shore battery and minefields and they whittle down your health. If BBs could shoot from the back, they’d be very useful in this.
I played initially with renown '44 and that went reasonably well, if you're going to try a BB then I'd give that a go. Eendracht also worked very well.
This might just have been a quirk of my own audio setup, but it was hard for to focus on your words with what the gameplay sounds of gunfire and music were set to.

Well with the recent bug for clan battles, you could in fact face minefields in random battles. Or just undying ships.. Very fun..
The West Virginia 44 is also good in this operation. If one doesn’t have the Atlanta, the Flint is also okay.

The biggest issue I believe, in my opinion, is that some of the enemy dds at the end when they attack the invasion force feel way to powerful and sometimes to damn fast. Also, I don’t know why but the bensons that escort the force just get absolutely destroyed in seconds. I know they are bots but they should at least hold down the fort until we get over there.
Played it about seven times with one (maybe 2) five star efforts in the end. All solo for me but when I won it was because of really good team players. It is very hard-nothing wrong with that. My favorite operation so far.
BB's I recommend Renown 44 with secundery build
Agencourt just obliterates the schinelboots but has no AA but moves at snail pace.

@@-sly-Critique it's definitely on of, if not the most effective BB in that mission though, maybe beside Renown 44 but she's more rare than WV44 currently. She absolutely rips through plane, the spotter can help damaging both shore at the same time, her secondaries paired with the intel data is deadly for the S-Boats & DDs and she can clear mine fields rather easily with her 10km ASW (which is less effective than ship based ASW but still good). I know that the Atlanta and maybe 1-2 ships are a bit better but I think she's fat from "not effective enough"
Playing Fiji, the ap shells first few will pen the airfield once spotted then they all start bouncing
Been enjoying Huron in this mode, heal is pretty nice. My rng was awful and got every classified document and got no duplicates which kind of sucks.
played D-Day operation today for the first time and weirdly my secondaries won't fire at coastal guns but will fire at the aerodrome if within range and spotted, kind of weird...
Same issue, my secondaries wouldn't target one coastal gun would target the other and they aren't spotted when they shoot you
The only time i get 5 star is when i'm playing Grom and that's because i was shooting only the small torpboats, some AA coastal gun and then went back to spawn point which i was able to keep all the landing craft safe because i was fast enough to reach before they kill off all the DDs.
I'm having good results in a secondary build Renown 44 with IFHE.
If you want to do well in this OP you just need one or two very specific light cruiser... so much fun
Because you can change your document setup before the mission starts, I'm holding out hope that WG is using this to test the ability to change consumables at the start of matches
the enemy bots DDs are fairly accurate when shooting at you, but if you die and jump to others ships there are friendly bot DDs that come with the LSTs, they have such bad dispersion they can't hit anything at all. WG needs to even that out a bit, especially when its bot on bot fighting. the friendly bots do nothing other than take up a little time from the enemy bots before they start farming the LSTs.
Yup, the friendly DD bots are just bullet sponges.
5:10 destroying airfield DOES prevent them to lay minefield later or whenever but there are 2 of them and the airfield are 175k HP and takes forever to take down, even with the buff doc. use ATlanta/Flint AP actually is the fastest i found out, if AP shell hit on the side, it take out 10k out each salvo. but not sure about the airstrike from Enderacht tho. have to try it later.0
Atlanta is very good at killing torpedo boats and DDs, especially since you can radar them when they sit in smoke.
Eendracht can oneshot the airfields with the air strke.
And both are good for clearing minefields when mounting the depth charge module for 4 charges.
playing a BB i have solo killed both Aerodromes and i can confirm that if you do destroy them right after there spotted or very quickly after they are they, it does prevent most if not all of the mines from being drop in the transports path, and as some have Mention you do Full AP damage with BB AP. Another Note is that the AA forts have little armor so CL like Atlanta can get AP pen on the AA fort. (BB should use HE on the AA fort its better then AP there so lightly armored)
The problem I had in this mode is I cant maximize the usage of main battery range, somehow I cant go further or use all the range I had especially when I was using florida and W. Virginia, on land targets that is.
My secondaries on the WV44 came within range of an airfield and just ripped it apart. Im talking 5000 to 10000 damage each hit. It was silly how fast it went down and I didnt understand it at all.
Got 5 stars 3 times out of the 20 or so rounds i played solo queuing. 2 with Duke Of York, and 3rd with Atlanta. King George V does have a faster reload, but I go York for its AA. For this part of the event, it seems better to be in ships that have a high rate of fire and/or a lot of guns. Also from what I can tell, base xp is only base on ship damage you do. Only hitting on shore installations dont count for very much if any, tested it out myself by only doing the majority of my damage to those.
I need your teams. I've been getting teams that don't even make it past the first tiny boat rush... and suddenly 2 or 3 of us have to finish the rest of the mission.
those schnell boats have wonky hit boxes for sure, i have had shells go through them or i guess seem like they went through the top portion or front nose of it. The dds are fairly tanky as well but that aerodrome thing is really dumb i noticed that when doing the event yesterday to maybe slow down the planes but didn't do any damage to it when undetected at first.
I really like the dday op. I just wish there were more rewards
im playing on the test server rn and this atlantic wall defense (in its current state) seems significantly easier to get 5 stars, obviously that might change. One thing i like though is obviously you can play any tier 5(i wouldnt) 6 and 7 german destroyer, it allows a whole bunch of really good team cohesion and chemistry, even if you have never touched the german lines the 4 that are given to you are all quite different and offer basically anyone a good chance to enjoy the battle. My fav so far has been the z-33 you are given, it has an italian dd speed boost giving you a top speed of 47 knots, an infinite use reload booster, a 5 ish second reload with full gun build and 16.9km range and over 21k hp, Its honestly a whole lot more fun than this operation is

Ideally, you'd have two ships clearing coast, two defending against DD, and two minesweepers/multi-taskers. I got a 5* on this with randos, not even sure how.
Helpful note: the Airfields, coastal guns, and AA MUST be spotted to do damage to them. When not spotted, they are currently immune to all damage.
Use AP on the Coastal guns, it murders. I've been playing Boise for the heal and I'm getting 30-40k salvos with AP (still use HE on AA guns and Airfields.) Save your directives for other things. I run the two destroyer directives and the mine radius.
West Virginia 44 with that secondary fire power is the only BB that is kinda playable in this mode.
I found that BBs are useless in this mode.
One would almost think that an event as big and important as D-day they woulda done a lot better than this, but its wargaming, anything half assed is good enough for them.

Atlanta because of DPM and ship-dropped depth charges that clear minefields alot better. Helena seems to be the best tech tree option but has plane ASW which SUCKS at clearing mines. A little more main battery range though.
Boise for the heal as you will lose a lot of hp

I have gotten the 5 stars once. No divisions, but I got lucky with teammates. I had Atlanta and the random guys had 2 W. Virginias , Another Atlanta, Boise and Helena I think. Full American task force :D
When you are in port for this one, just take a minute or two and check out everything that's going on with it. There's an eeriness about it with the low hum of the squadrons of planes, AA coastal fire, the thud of the battleship guns and explosions in the distance.
Yeah I love the port there too. Can't wait for a mod to make it possible to make it a normal port outside of the event.
I cranked the volume up and when the battle ship fired, my dogs jumped up and started running through the house, barking like crazy.
I've played a couple of dozen of D-day games, and I can honestly say, this is by design hard to achieve. They if you are succesful at killing the dds, the mine fields will be more spread out, and more in number. They simply don't want you to rake up stars fast
can someone explain the rewards system for this? how do you get the documents, are they random, do you earn them over time guaranteed? is it based on the stars you earn? etc
Pretty much like a battlepass. Depending on how much stars (secondary objectives) you get in a run, it'll lvl up and give you stuff. Idk if the documents are random but I'd think not and they are guaranteed as long as you keep winning
west virginia 44' with secondaries, park it around where the torp boats appear and camp back. you'll get a good chance to get those dd's before they torp the entire fleet.
The bb has a 30sec reload, so wait for the enemy dd's to be at least at 10km before wasting shots. For torp boats, the range must be even closer, around 5km minimum
Also it's a great way to get the dockyard missions for ships destroyed, i farmed them in a couple of hours (45 kills in BB).
Be aware of the minefields at the end, clear them out as quickly as you can get the landing crafts bearing, they will blown up fast if you don't blow those mines
Secondary Agincourt melts the snellboats as well, plus you have 14 main guns
I was lucky enough to get a really good team on my 3rd try and got all 5 Stars as a Solo. My Div mates gave up, late at night, so went in solo and got it done. Was tough, but Atlanta Meta for sure. 4 Atlanta a Fiji and a Rooke.
I need to go relook at my screen settings. For me this operation is in almost total darkness. Which is a bit odd as in other operations and modes all looks fine and normal.
I managed the 5 star today with a random team, but it was 6 light cruisers and a DD. If you have any BB's or heavy cruisers on your team you're not going to manage to do everything.
in the eendracht, with a single airstrike I did 145k to the aerodrome
I get 5 stars playing solo with Renown 44, fast ship, good secondaries and OK reload on main guns, plane ASW helps the landing ships

yeah it is frustating ( both the minefield were if you don t have the one drop from the ship, you basicly do nothing to those with ASW), agree on the blind dmg part too. i guess they want to be "realistic", like it D-day wasn t a easy walk in the parc, so kinda normal it is very hard to get all stars.
the blind fire making no dmg kinda normal as the ally may not know all the base on the coast defence.
they could have make that at the "end" of the first phases reward you get secret info that give a rought location of costal gun and airfield that would allow you to blind fire without the need of spotting
I found Flint to have the most utility. Good guns, smoke and boat drop depth charges. And it's premium.
Atlanta is definitely better here out of the two as the smokescreen is really unnecessary. Both DFAA and radar are great for this specific mission. But nonetheless Flint is still great just thanks to its guns alone.
The problem I have with randoms is a language barrier. Im on the Asia server in Australia. Most of the chat text that pops up is blank or just random letters and numbers as the people are typing in Indonesian or something. I can't coordinate with that.
i nearly got all stars once with random team no divisions. All we had to do was destroy the last coastal gun and had like 2 minutes on the clock. I was in Perth and there was a Boise like 10km from the gun.
We begged him to start shooting. But from what I could see he was so tunnel vision stuck on evading the minefield that when he finally woke up his salvo didn't even manage to land on the gun in time.
West Virginia with Secondary build. These eat those pesky Schnellboat. And it has great AA. Also, Minefield sucks hard, with Plane ASW you can clear one mine per drop. It is kinda fun but there are better Operations, imho.
DeGrasse is nice aswell, with Speedboost you can go back north in a hurry
You'll probably have a hard time with DDs and CA/CLs, but BBs have a better chance of pulling through. I've had relatively good results with Nelson and secondary-oriented West Virginia 44, though.
Use AP for the coastal guns
Yeah, I found the Atlanta to be the best CA, West Virgina 44 secondary build best BB, and Jervis is my DD of choice, the only time I got all 5 stars. Destroying the Airfields do stop the laying of minefields, so that has to be a priority, getting back is a problem, I found so many times that the DDs spawn in the North and just wreck the landing craft before you can do anything.
Correct on the Atlanta I used Omaha , Marblehead they were ok / average but alt was the best I believe that bb are useless here too slow and the players that I’ve played with just stay in the back like all bb players
It is, apparently, easy for you to get base XP. Personally, even trying to focus the Schnellboots and DD's, about 1.5k base XP is the most i have achieved in hours on this mode.

As a DD main this is pretty frustrating. Been playing Bly and Jervis. Bly for her 14.6k 900mps guns and Jervis for the powerful UK Depth charges.
Them damn little boats are a pain in the ass. Took Cruiser Eintracht a few times with both good and bad results lol.
Disappearing Airfields really pissed me off, there one second and gone the next...WTF is that?
I think if you play this with BBs its gotta be secondary focused BB. I played the Wee Vee '44 on this operation and ive gotten four stars quite a few times and that was just two other randoms thinking like me and doing what needed to be done. If I had another person do some strats with us we wouldve gotten the 5 stars.
I'm assuming by 5 stars you mean getting all the objectives? I managed once to get almost everything, but there was one too few boats going to the Southern Beach that survived. Still it wouldn't have happened if one DD captain, didn't go to their rescue as fast as possible, while I bombarded the shore (I'm uncertain if you can get anything extra by destroying airfields, but they have so much HP and love to "disappear" just before they are destroyed - which BTW - WTF?).
Honestly it's a good mission and finishing it is "easy". But doing it perfectly requires decent co-ordination. And providing escort to boats requires (I think) clearing those minefields. Because you don't want to swim into them while escorting landing ships. And I'm annoyed that neither Hydro-acoustic Search nor "Submarine Surveillance" (I think, I only recently started playing again, so this new skills are very new to me) help in detecting them. If they did, you could at least make yourself straight line through them relatively quickly, especially if others would help.
I'm currently playing it in Dehli and it seems that it is enough (disregarding last DD's all the German boats are made of paper basically). I don't have any BB's that are from the countries allowed, I don't know if they would help a lot or not. Though given that damage to shore installations doesn't matter (and aiming at them is bugged), I feel like next time I should stay back a little and help with first wave of boats and the wave of DD's to the north at the end.
Fun mission, but IDK if I will be able to finish it with full marks without any friends. And I don't have any ;)
Definitely has areas of improvement but I love how difficult it is and how it requires teamwork and coordination. I know these words don't match with "randoms" but that's just what makes it more difficult
The last part tho I do find quite unfair, the dds literally spawn right at the attack ships and the minefields just one-tap them. Torp boats imo should also have Sub hitbox where even if you don't hit them directly they get splash dmg from HE
Yeah, its pretty hard, i think i got 2x 5 stars, not more, once on Flint once in west Virginia 44 , good Choice , Boise also fine, even exeter, didnt try dds, Duke of York is kinda fine with hydro against torp ships

I got 5 stars once. I took Flint. I have not been able to reproduce.
My main beefs are that shore bombardment on a flint is near impossible unless going after the airfield. Seeing you have no issues in Atlanta makes me wonder if this a flint issue. Many of the players do not understand that clumping up is the wrong way to do this. Blind firing does not work on shore objectives.
I have found that knocking out at least one airfield makes a big impact. It will stop planes coming from that direction. This makes me think that being able to knock out both would be even more helpful.
I do like this op, but yeah it could have been better. I’ve had 5 star runs in Atlanta and my Helena. Playing a BB does seem pointless, unless you tell your team to kill the boats while you nuke the guns and airbases. Looking forward to the next one however.
