Plymouth is a zone control ship, and is designed to win local engagements over traditional farming. You have to have great situational awareness and you have to make strong and impactful decisions. You have smoke, hydro, and radar. The world is your oyster in Plymouth, you just need to know how to get the pearl.

Spot on, kinda feel like PQ missed the trick with this one. Plymouth is flowing with utility and one of the easiest ships to carry games in through ensuring your DDs stay ahead and you always have cap control.
Well you can do pretty much the same with San Martin and its best super heal in the game...that ship just don't die.
@@vitezslavlorenc3479 pretty sure san Martin has 1/10 of the cap control abilities Plymouth has. Try pushing in early or mid game in a light cruiser with no smoke and short range radar and see the result….
I got her and broke 200k in the 3rd game, which beats my Mino dmg record by 30k, though i know it's not supposed to be dmg focused.
It's amazing for crushing DDs and playing around key areas. And with the extreme popularity of DDs these days its great. Overall a great ship for me, but what it really struggles with is CVs. They completely kill your amazing concealment advantage and can keep you off from getting into key positions.
@@anidiot2818 absolutelly agree i am also way better on Plymoth then on mino and have about 30 k more average damage (from 80 k on mino to 110 on Plymouth) its just amazing how universal this ship can be. U can easily flank the enemys and get to there braodside and smack them with 8k a salvo without your team having to spot for you. and every dd is to afraid to go even near u because they know they gonna die in a few salvos.

I do enjoy Plymouth, but that’s because I enjoy the UK CL’s, so the squishy hull, AP-only combo is very familiar to me. Plymouth is best described as an Angry-Edinburgh. The smoke/hydro/radar gives her lots of utility, especially in things like Clan Battles.
I like she is very different to Mino but I do understand if she seems too expensive (ie costing steel) for most players as it’s a ship made for cruiser players.
However, that rarity does help; you can catch out DDs, Cruisers and even subs who don’t expect the radar because you’ve smoked up.
i tend to think that if the edinburgh and the belfast had a love child ......
15:00 notice that against the Schlieffen every second salvo broke a secondary gun. British AP is devastating against secondaries, not that it helps against being devstruck by the main battery but it is annoying as hell to be on the receiving end :)
I think the shells hitting islands thingy mainly happens when the ship is moving. Once the ship becomes stationary the auto lead system resets and allows you to hit what you are aiming at
this game doesn`t deserve the "historical" tag any more .

@@j_taylorPlymouth has no impact on this statement, Wows is now 200% an arcade game, the "real ships" are swimming in a pool of arcade CV, Subs, Superships etc etc
@@j_taylornot really, but yeah. It was the original design for the Belfast/Edinburgh sub-class of the Town Class.

@@j_taylor yes there have been quite a few Plymouth`s in the RN but the latest which was a Rothesay class frigate involved in the Falklands war , then prior to that she was a yacht made in 1814 which launched as HMS admiralty then renamed to Plymouth in 1830 . if either of these "real" ships were in the game, I could imagine there would be some very confused captains out there .
This is the most definitive review I've seen. I was on the fence between Ragnar and Plymouth for a long time. Ragnar obviously is strong and popular, but I was holding out for some detailed reviews on Plymouth. None were forthcoming so I ended up getting the Ragnar. Now that I almost have enough steel for the next ship.... I'm starting to look again. I'm glad this review came out when it did.
Got myself the Plymouth the day it was released(reviewed/compared to mino in a couple vids of mine on my VERY humble channel 😉) and I've regretted NOTHING!
Some bias as a light cruiser main, but she continues to be the most underrated ship in game imo! Definitely recommend from me IF you like light cruiser play! o7
@@capthappy8884Totally. I transitioned from DD to CL over the last two years, but quit last year due to the subs getting shoved into ranked as well. This boat is absolutely fantastic, my favourite CL along with Brisbane and occasionally Minotaur (and Smolensk for pure evil salt mining).
man , just use radio location on these ships which you have to go close to enemy, no more suprises with rpf
One time I ended up on Ocean map in radar Minotaur. It was scary, but I survived, killed some DDs and ended up with win. Meanwhile in smoke Mino I was always dying by simply outrunning my smoke 😂
I think that WoWs should have the same equipment option as WoT - to be able to switch out radar for smoke before the battle timer starts

it's obviously important when shooting turning dds, but it also affects cruisers (just a lot less)
That Bazan at 5:45 basically being the same size as the Plymouth...
Yeah even I have experienced that issue at 0:27 in my pepsican, i didn't even overextend and I tried flamus technique of kiting before getting spotted but I was detected and lost 3/4 of my health and managed to survive the entire game which was a defeat. Ohh and that game has 8 DD on both the teams.

Not the first steel boat I would recommend, but if you already have the really strong ones, the Plymouth can be a fun boat. Sometimes a bit of feast-or-famine boat, it is still fun and can be very impactful if played smartly. I do enjoy it just for the different play style.
I'm looking forward to your review on the USS Vallejo. I like the USN ships, but the Vallejo seems to have been overshadowed by the Pan American cruiser line. Hopefully your review will reveal some hidden gems in the ship.

If you play for damage numbers (which potato seems to very heavily assume), then of course this boat isnt gonna win any awards. But this boat is not about achieving a high damage score, its about being a heavy support ship that can lock down certain areas for DDs. With smoke ready for when the radar falls off (or in combination), any DD has to just cede that radar bubble around any strategic point, lest he wants to be deleted (which a Plymouth often does to a DD, when allowed). You play this essentially for the win, not damage numbers.

@potatoquality the heal isnt super, but it does heal a much larger portion of citadel damage!
Counter DDs, use the utility. Damage cones hard unless people derp hard, then the DPM cuts in fast.

The problem is that the experience is not fundamentally diff from the Edinburgh. Its the same smoke up and fore AP. And if you can hold your own in an Edin in a T10 game then there's very little justification to pay steel for a radar and 4 extra guns, & you still have to give up the super heal.

I do like playing plymouth in ranked, my only wish is she had the AA from the mino......
Can we get some reviews or help on what level 9-10 premium that can be just paid for to get us going as a new player. that may have leveled bad trees in the Tech lines.
If you are new you don't want to be at T9/10 in the first place, you'd be far better off in a T6/7 premium. New players should be more focused on learning the game, not rushing to top tier where the game is far less forgiving of mistakes.
Also there really isn't a "bad" line in any of the tech tress, even the Japanese Light Cruisers aren't terrible ships, they are just bad light cruisers. So if your thinking is you are struggling because of the nation you've started out with, that's even more of an indicator you just aren't experienced with the game, and there is no shame in that. Everyone was bad at the game at one point. Rushing to top tier won't fix that though.

i mostly wanted a Premium ship for the Free XP grind and cash grind. I do ok in the higher tiers with my other ships but also keep getting told they are junk.
@@renegadechewtoy1657 People(PQ included) call anything that isn't brokenly overpowered "junk". Wasn't that long ago PQ was complaining that 406mm guns on a T10 BB were "small".
Try not to focus much on what people say about your ships and put your effort into learning how those ships play.
Also the silver income between a T7 premium and T9 premium is so small you won't really notice it, so again I'd say just stick around there. T6/7/8 ships can also do Operations for easy silver, it's not as much as you would get from randoms but its more consistent.

Yes. Subs ruins the game completely. Nothing like your full attention trying to avoid homing torps and getting blapped by enemy surface ships. They are wows cancer. So i say fck subs and especially fck sub drivers.
It's crazy talk to think that 30 or 40 6-inch holes from AP shells punched clean through both sides of a submarine would cause any significant damage or flooding. (/sarcasm).

any ship that depends on not being seen to be effective is completely ruined by sub and cv....add radar and your smoke isn't even useful....
I wouldn't say Brisbanes Radar is better than Plymouths, the long time on the Plymouth radar is very useful.

I dont really have a problem with subs, they can be annoying for sure... but i think CVs are way worse. The sub needs to get into battle and can be caught of guard, you have the abillity to do something against them, while the CV just sits back and focuses you the whole round and you cant do a thing. But thats just my perception.
Frankly it baffles me that Plymouth doesn't get a superheal, it's basically a giant fatter Edinburgh. It would at least make up a bit more for its shortcomings with a bit more player comfort.

Yeah its too expensive for how fragile it is. The amount of times i've been nuked in smoke from across the map in Plymouth is truly fustraiting. Even if you ignore the turret angles and DPM just citidel city all the time.
The consumables are great so if you're playing something competative you can use it to contest caps or help your team. I used to absolutely love this ship but its just been crept, other lines have come in, others have been buffed and Plymouth is stuck in the past.
I'd say leave unless you're using it for clan battles/division play.
I regret geting this ship. in fact, I only played it for snowflake eliminations now. Its awful for me.

Hawkins wasn't worth getting in 2020. The later ships are alright, but Hawkins is pure garbage that is worse than Emerald.

@@reflectstratos9587just a guide. Rn I’m on Seattle and every game I am outranged, can’t find use of my radar because it’s too short. I’m not too sure on my build either, it sounds easy to just sit behind an island but a lot of the Worcester games are all cherry picked with ideal positioning. I want to know what dot do in a non ideal situation and how to play Seattle as well because I did well in Cleveland but Seattle just seems worse.
Like dude said you camp an island and use the high trajectory(arcs for nubs) shells to hit ships while remaining unspotted. It's a brutally boring playstyle. Makes for boring video footage.

PQ don't be so negative. When playing against subs you have to press G and keep sailing on top of them even though they are likely faster than you. If THAT isn't gameplay then what is?
The sub buff came with an ASW buff too - balancing isn't as simple as just making something worse to even the playing field, there needs to be a balance. Subs are nowhere near as easy to play now and are often the first to go down early in a match
That's some insane amount of copium. Only unexperienced sub die first. ASW buffs almost useless when you can even find sub they keep spotting you and spamming torps with auto aim. Its most unfun class to play against.

It seams you faced bad sub players, you are one who has to be exposed to deal with sub, this class had dumb mechanics and overturned just so ppl who use it feel like they doing something @@CamoDrako
@@Doonmer The class mechanics are no less dumb than how radar and hydro works. And no, it's not inexperienced sub players, it's pretty straightforward to avoid subs unless you play dumb. They have the lowest avg. damage across the playerbase by a big margin for a reason
