  • Shockingly, nearly half (43%) of Australia’s First Nations communities have no mobile coverage. This digital divide is perpetuating social and economic inequalities and is limiting the opportunities and quality of life for these already marginalised communities. Closing the digital divide plays a complex yet essential role in creating an inclusive nation.
First Nations community, Yarrabah, is one such example. Although Yarrabah is just 10km from Cairns, the town has historically faced ongoing connectivity issues. This thriving town, and home to a growing community of First Nations artists, was unable to reach its full potential because essential digital services were simply unavailable.
To bridge this gap, Indara is partnering with one of the largest wireless carriers and Ventia to build a mobile tower in Yarrabah with construction and commissioning expected to be complete by October 2024. The project has been in planning for approximately five years, and Indara acknowledge the professional and proactive support from the Gunggandji Aboriginal Corporation. The Yarrabah tower marks a significant step in improving connectivity and supporting Yarrabah's growth.
This project is reflective of Indara’s overarching goal - to accelerate a digitised future for our communities.
