    The Blackfyre Rebellions tale is a nuanced meditation on how people are moved to belief and action through beliefs. People who didn't like peaceful union with Dorne through marriage saw Daeron as "tubby" and loathed having to coexist with the Dornish as fellow subjects of the Iron Throne-- they didn't want victory through peaceful union, they wanted glorious bloodshed and violent defeat of the Dornish they hated. SO they made up post facto justifications for a coup putting their "warrior god" on the throne instead of the analytical, thoughtful ruler who achieved rule over all the seven kingdoms of Westeros through marriage: respectful tolerance and compromise was boring and made them pout, they wanted war and a king whose "virtue" was fighting.

      It's interesting how some societies seem to value and need strength. Especially in a context where war is common. Might not be a bad idea to follow the leaders who are best at it

    • @amanimckenzie32
      @amanimckenzie32 Před 7 měsíci +11

      It’s a bit more than “they wanted glorious bloodshed”. Whilst that certainly was apart of it, the other reasons was that ever since Daeron I many Lords and knights lost loved ones to the Dornish invasion, they sacrificed a lot for the Targs to own Dorne and when the Targs eventually make a peaceful integration with Dorne they felt cheated. In order to get Dorne Daeron II had to give them major benefits, ones that the other kingdoms didn’t get when they were subjugated decades ago. He also gave them political power. His wife was Dornish, his heir looked Dornish and his court was filled with Dornishmen. Many in the realm saw it as the enemy taking over their realm. Add to this that the previous King (Aegon IV) was opposed to Dorne and attempted to make war on them before, many of Westeros were still on the ideology of Dorne are the enemy.
      There’s still other reasons that many supported Daemon I. Daeron kicked out many of Aegon IV’s lickspittles from political power and they wanted it back, others were persuaded with ideas of glory and gold, and others genuinely believed that Daeron was the bastard of Aemon the Dragonknight and that Daemon was the ideal king, looked like a magnificent warrior king, was the most chivalrous knight and shone like a legend out of myth.

Argon IV’s “Great Bastards” were called as such because they were from Noble Mothers, the five being: Bloodraven (and his 2 sisters) from house Blackwood and Bittersteel from house Bracken, and last and most prominent Daemon Blackfyre from a Targaryen mother.
