Coming up on one year with my Megatower. Love it! Video quality was fine. Thanks, enjoyed it.
🤘
So, I just found your channel and like your content. Your skill level is way up there and wish I was as good. Hopefully you put out some more videos soon.
Nice review / thoughts on the Mega! I'm coming up on my one year anniversary with mine too :) GroPro9 footage looks good! I'd ditch the gimbal. When you wear a full face, put the gopro9 on the chin and you'll have the best footage possible. Not sure if it was just with this video, but definitely bump down the EV comp on in the gopro so the footage doesn't get over exposed (i've done that before too..). And perhaps a wind sock / dead cat to cut out the wind? The Loam Ranger has a good setup for this (which I have found excellent on mine). Cheers
Nice narration brotha, I have just ordered the 2021 Megatower get it in January I can’t wait. I myself have been in the bike industry since 1995 from a DH back ground and I believe running a coil will basically keep your ass glued to the ground better maybe for racing etc, you are a big guy so I would imagine it works well For you?...I got the air shock on mine but will explore what I like when I get the bike. Keep shredd’n brotha! Nice work.
I appreciate that man.
Enjoy that Megatower, you’ll love it. I’m sure that air shock will be killer on there 🤙
Just bought this bike, I also have an Specialized epic evo, which i love. Thanks for the review.
I bought a Megatower in August. Before that I had an Intense Carbine 2019...What I like about MT is the quality of the frame, to be honest I don't see to many differences between MT and Carbine. Both of them are great bikes but the MT has a little bit of downhill pedigree. I ordered the R kit which is the cheapest build but I replaced the rear shock with a DHX2 (this is the only component that caused some troubles, oil leaks etc), the build came with a Yari but I bought a Zeb - 170mm travel. Now I have the head angle at 63 degrees and I ride in long setting. The bike feels great and now with the new fork the handling is much better at higher speeds. Definitely worth the upgrade. I didn't ride the bike with the air shock so I can't compare the feeling of air vs coil on this frame but I can tell you that the coil makes you feel more planted. I used to run the coil vs air on Carbine and tested against the clock, for me the coil was the fastest option but this is just my personal preference. What I want to do next is to try a mullet setup. Would be interesting to see how is the climbing affected by this change. Overall great bike, SC is expensive but the frame quality is always impressive I have the C version of the frame and beside weight penalty I don't see any difference.
Sounds like some awesome plans for the Mega. Let us know how the mullet goes 🤘
Yeww🤘. Just installed the cascade link (same travel and spring) on my Mega and it totally changed the bike in a good way. Really brought the bike to life and made it way more playful. I highly recommend it!
Nice dude! That sounds rad!!
@@loamtroopers yeah its good. Would live to pair it with a 38 too but 36 is good for now. The 38 on my new ebike is 👌
I just got one for my tallboy can't wait to ride it
Footage quality is very good! I really enjoyed it!!
Thanks Ron! Appreciate that
*Great frame and lightweight. **Latest.Bike** components were well adjusted out of the box. Great entry level bike for light off road use.*
Hi mate. I'm currently running a 150mm nukeproof mega with a 170mm fox 36 with a coil upgrade and a Push Elevensixsix rear shock. I have just cracked the frame and I have no idea if/when I will get a warranty frame. My lbs has a megatower in my size. Interesting you say the coil reduces sensitivity as mine increased it massively over the fox x2. I was thinking of buying the megatower as it's also 20% off and then selling the warranty frame when I get it. Would you recommend the frame and do you think I should run a coil on the back to match the front? My forks are crazy plush compared to an air sprung fork and currently my bike is really balanced. It's so sad to say goodbye 😭😭
Ditch the gimbal.. good vid as is & for extra stability just use zip ties on the chin bar of a full face! 🕶✌🏼 One of the best bikes I’ve ever owned/ridden! Amazing Mountain Bike 🕺🏻
Such a good option! I couldn’t agree more. 🤘
True love my megatower it’s so good
@@sameerjg how does someone own a 5k bike that doesn't use punctuation?
Small bump is better with the air shock ? Is that because you are running a high spring rate with the coil to get more pop ? Great overall review.
I’ve never had very good luck getting exceptional small bump compliance with coils. I do run that really high spring rate though, so that plays a big factor.
Hi, I am looking at this bike, I am 6'1 nearing 6'2 and i feel like i am in between sizes on bikes, I came from a xl transition smuggler but i was wondering if i should go for a large for more playfulness?
Good stuff man. I also have a review of the Megatower on my channel. Love this bike !
Thanks dude! I appreciate that. Can’t go wrong with the Mega 🤘
So what do you think of the Megatower long term versus your Bronson? Does it feel as playful as the Bronson? More or less effiecient? I'm in the market for a new bike and I'm looking at the Megatower, Hightower, Bronson, and new Stumpjumper Evo. I have an Evo on order but I can't test it for a while and I really like the suspension feel on the Bronson/Hightower. It feels very taut and energetic but also supportive and plush enough. I also have only ever rode 27.5. I kind of want to go 29 but I'm afraid I'll miss the playfulness, which makes the Bronson very attractive.
I got a killer deal on a 2020 Nukeproof Mega 27.5 a bit ago (I figured I'd ride it until my bike comes and then decide if I want to keep it) and I'm finding that while it's amazing on the descents, it isn't great for most of my local trails. The suspension/tire combo seems to absorb a fair amount of energy when trying to maintain speed on flatter terrain. I didn't get that impression from either the Bronson or the HIghtower. It feels great at higher speeds and off bigger hits though. I wouldn't mind a bit less downhill performance for a more efficient and energetic suspension platform. I'm just afraid the Stumpy Evo will feel too much like the Nukeproof on my local trails, whereas the Hightower/Bronson would probably fit the bill a bit better. The Megatower is a wild card lol, but if it's deep but precise it might be a closer fit for what I want...
Thanks for the great content by the way, your videos have been among the most helpful of all! Genuinely good stuff.
Thanks for that man. I really appreciate it.
As for the Megatower long term, I would still buy it over the Bronson. To me, the Bronson was missing a bit of energy in comparison to the Mega. I think the Mega rides much better in almost every category. The only thing is the wheel base.. a large 29 is a lot of bike when you start jibbing around, but for how much bike it is, it’s so efficient and predictable. I haven’t ridden the Stumpy Evo, but from the sounds of it, (and that head angle) it’s meant to be a bit more planted. Especially for the amount of travel it has. But, unless you’re riding aggressive trails, I would maybe opt for the Hightower over the Megatower. I’m curious myself how playful a Hightower with a aggressively tuned suspension set up would be.
@@loamtroopers Thanks, that's helpful to know. Yeah, my biggest fear with the Evo is that it'll be too planted. The new SJ Evo lets you adjust the head angle quite a bit, and in the steepest setting the head angle and wheelbase is pretty comparable to the Hightower. I'm just afraid the suspension will be more traction-biased. I personally prefer a sportier feeling bike. I ride fairly fast, but I usually prefer popping over/off of stuff rather than plowing through it, and finding flow in technical terrain (which we have a lot of lol). I really like the Nukeproof in a lot of ways, but it's missing some efficiency for me. It or something like it would be nice traveling to bigger trails though. I keep thinking if the bike had a bit more pep or efficiency I could use it as a one bike quiver. I think I could get along well with a shorter travel bike as long as the suspension is on the aggressive side. I mostly rode an enduro hardtail this summer and loved it, so outright comfort isn't a huge deal, just support/safety on bigger and faster stuff.
Wooow Very good revue 🤘🤘
Thank you!
What is your sag at w the 600 spring? I dont have the compression adjustment so I’m on the 650
I was thinking about going coil but wasn't sure how it would perform with 160mm fork and on their website they pair a coil shock with 170mm and 160mm with air... I do wanna experience coil though
160 or 170 up front, the coil performs really well on the mega 🤘
Great overview. Big, bad steed!
One of the baddest!!
That is a beautiful trail may I ask where you filmed this? Thanks for thoughts on owning this bike. I am deciding between this bike and Tallboy.
Want the best of both worlds, get a high tower 150-145 travel the do it all bike
This is Corral in South Lake Tahoe
Bought a megatower c X01 build test bike from a bike shop (got a really great deal) since in Switzerland you can upgrade the dropper post to a yep uptimizer( a Swiss boutique dropper brand) it came with a 155 mm which for my 183cm height is too short, so my plans are to upgrade to a reverb axs... future plans are definitely: fox38 , reserve i9 wheels and probably a coil shock just to try it vs the air
Great review
Much love from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Nice dude! That’s going to be even more of a dope build! How is the air shock treating you on there?
@@loamtroopers great since I’m only 14years old and about 60kg so...
I think honestly I’ll buy the coil later when I’m heavier if that makes any sense, because I heard that those work better for heavier riders like with the 38 not sure... what do you think( I’m not kidding about my age btw😂)
good video greetings from Mexico
Hi, If I may ask. I am 6 foot tall, so in the middle of sizes L/XL. Witch one would you sugest? I am unable to demo the bikes, but thinking about buy it anyway.
I’m 6’ tall and ride a Large. It’s very comfortable for me. I wouldn’t get an XL or recommend it. I hope that helps!
@@loamtroopers Hey! I'm looking at this exact same set up! I am 6'2"... Would a XL work for me?
Oh and I weigh 185
@@davidmorgan2728 hey David, I'm 6'1" and 185 lbs and I ride the XL and love it. Climbs techy junk very well and then point it down and she's a blast. Test ride an XL if you can.
Mine comes in February🤩
Sick! You won’t be disappointed 🤘
Just bought one the 2019 one haven’t even got to ride it yet
Don’t you hate buying bikes right before winter. Such a buzz kill 🤦♂️
Hero 9 looks good 👍🏼
I was pretty nervous how it would turn out, but with some small kinks worked out, I think it’s pretty solid!
How do you like RS superdeluxe coil? Have you ever ridden different coil shock?
I’ve owned both the superdelux ult. and the DHX2. They’re honestly both really similar to me. I love both of them and highly recommend 🤘
Nice review
Great video buddy, Megatower or new Wreckoning?
Thank Jason. I appreciate that.
I think I prefer the Wreckoning over the Megatower. It just feels more playful, which is important to me on those daily rides.
Does this climb much worse than the Bronson? I have a Bronson V2 and thinking about upgrading.
In my opinion, it’s a stronger climber in the tech sections than the Bronson. I would choose the megatower over the Bronson in a climbing challenge, every time.
Where are you riding? Looks like an awesome trail!
The area looks like Tahoe. Plus he passed a sign for Corral trail which is there.
how do you compare it to the Weckoning V3?
It’s more grounded and speed compliant than the Wreckoning. The Evil is much more energetic and sharp in my opinion. The geo specs feel very similar to me but I prefer the Delta platform a bit more over the VPP. Love them both though 🤘
Who's wreckoning in the background?
Compare the pair?
Coming soon!
BB smash guard seems to a necessity
Absolutely!
Lol.76 isn't steep enough? Try mine, 72°
That looks like it could be Big Bear Ca?
Lake Tahoe, Ca.
This trail looks beautiful. Where is it???
It’s corral
In Lake Tahoe
Mason nailed it 🤙
What hub is that sound insane
It’s a I9 hydra hub 🤘
Saw this bike on pink bike? Is it for sale?
It sold about a month ago
Damm really? Dammm should of sent that message ! :/
9 FTW
🤘🤘🤘
Look like Lake Tahoe, where I bike..
Sure is! 🤘
The sound sucks, sorry. Else, great insights!
Yeah not the best. Working on solutions 🤞
Had to laugh when the commentary says "Pedaling with the coil shock is a game changer and makes the pedaling platform very rigid and you don't get a lot of bobbing", while all you can see on screen is a bike bobbing like crazy. Can't believe how much that bike bobs on the road going up, hate to think how bad it would be if some decent power was put in. It must have been really bad before the coil shock was put on if that is an improvement.
Your spec is different than what the bike comes with. 100% changes how the bike feels. Should have thrown that into your review
