- Another day of steam vs heat in Sussex, as the Bluebell Railway fronted three locomotives for their summer services.
The home pair of 5MT - 73082 and Q Class - 30541 would deliver the railways' Service B timetable; the duo being reminiscent of the Southern steam scene in the early 1960's. O1 Class - 65 would feature on the 'Wealden Rambler' afternoon tea service, bolstering the timetable, with its intricate SE&CR livery being ever resplendent in the summer sun. Recent shunting at Horsted Keynes has brought Ex-NLR Class 75 - 58850 into a position favourable for photographs, an opportunity that was grasped early in the day before services commenced.
In places along the railway, large areas on the lineside vegetation had noticeably been cut back in an effort to reduce the risk of lineside fires, which has been a major issue for numerous heritage railways brought on by the prolonged hot and dry weather. In addition, both 73082 and 30541 were carrying generators through the day, in case water from their tenders needed to be used to douse a fire. Theory became reality, as the Bluebell suffered delays brought on by a lineside fire near Sharpthorne tunnel.
Locomotives:
BR Standard Class 5MT - 73082 "Camelot"
Ex-SR Q Class - 30541
SE&CR O1 Class - 65

Hi marc kitcher am very lucky to have shares in bluebellrailway as I love bluebellrailway marc kitcher
Loved all of it!!! but the little green engine was the best.
Glad you enjoyed it
Old locomotive 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂 very nice beautiful amazing unique Excellent sharing get new friend 🌺🎁🎁🧑💼👌👍📸
Great summer haze railway video! Lovely to see the wonderful (and now thankfully well protected) Maunsell and pre-grouping coaches rake. Hope we can all see Stowe hauling them, plus the Maunsell restaurant car, some time in the near future. Hats off to Richard Salmon and all the Bluebell team at the carriage workshops!
Bluebell certainly putting others to shame, the lineside looks almost like parkland, certainly been busy with the Flymo!!!!! Q would look better with that rake of wagons in the siding🤔🤔 Another gentle ramble through the Sunny Southern, hope you had some extra water in case of overheating, cheers Matthew👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The Q was the sway point for me - always had a soft spot for it, so saw it as a worthy trip solely for that, but can't help agreeing with you. Hopefully one day again soon.
It was a scorcher, especially out on Freshfield bank. Lots of water taken on. Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely stunning! And I appreciate the beginning with all the non restored equipment. Some friends and I founded a passenger train museum in the states recently and I regularly get overwhelmed with the work we need to put into our rolling stock. This really proves that preservation and restoration have to start somewhere. And done right can lead to some amazing results. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Chris!
Glad you enjoyed that sequence. I wish you all the best with your venture!
Thank you so much for taking the time to film and post this. It’s great to see the engines from the fields 🥰 It was a hot day on the Q and we were delayed on our 2nd trip due to having to put out a line-side fire south of the tunnel.. a whole new experience for me!
Thank you for this fine video !
Glad you enjoyed it
excellent shots👍 went on it many years ago and enjoyed it hope many more lines are restored to it's former glory
Thank you
The Bluebell Railway looking as good as ever and superbly captured on your video.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video!
Think really steam services on bluebell railway when it gets freezing cold to death
Nature & trains in perfect harmony.
Nicely covered.
Thanks very much
It will remembered for plan a Footplate steam rides and test around in Sheffield Park and test around due to boiling weather conditions, so replace by Heritage Diesel service with dry high temperatures on bluebell railway since summer of 2022
Very well done video, looks like a great day :)
Thank you, it was indeed
Enjoyed that , will have to give it a go myself in the Autumn 👍🏻
Cheers, Jamie!
Well worth it, with plenty of public locations.
I hope a LNER J50 tank could be rebuilt one day!
Thumbs up 👍👍👍
Cheers
I was there at 26 & 31 July, my home railway! Love it just a pity I now reside in Northern Ireland for my sins! Lol
Fabulous view at5:20.
I imagine the Q would be preferable on a hot day, running tender-first at any rate, with the open cab and low-sided tender. Like a convertible car (without a windscreen)
Thank you
The lesser of two evils, for sure
Did their used to be a train called Bluebell ?
P Class - 323. Still based at the railway, currently awaiting an overhaul.
