I knew a man that was in the 24th Infantry, stationed in Kokura, Japan in 1950. He went into South Korea shortly after Task Force Smith was deployed. At night he slept with a revolver to defend himself because Soldiers were being killed in their sleep by the North Koreans. There were many horror stories of being overrun at the time. His unit kept getting pushed back and he ended up fighting in the defense of Pusan. He passed away earlier this year at 95.
My good friend Vern B was in the Marine Core, in 1950 station in Japan, then was re station in Taiwan in 1956 stated that they were almost at war with China back then, He said you could the trails being left behind the B52 bombers flying around. They were on red alert 24 for a week.ill call him up and see if he remembers anything more.
Training with the ROK Army and ROK Marines in '05 was one of my favorite time in the Corps. Nice country

I agree on the whole, but almost every video I've watched on this channel (and I've watched quite a few) has at least one glaring error in it. That being said, by and large they are very well done and show a lot of history the majority of people do not know about.

I went to high school on Osan Air Base and lived at Camp Humphreys, which is right outside of Pyeonteak. I've personally been to both battle memorials, and during school sports, ran a lot of the hills those battles took place on.

Years ago, I read a book about this from the point-of-view of US Army senior NCOs and officers who were WW2 veterans. They recalled watching a massive number of unstoppable North Korean tanks and soldiers. US and RoK soldiers were retreating in mass and disobeying orders to stand and fight. An NCO who fought at the Battle of the Bulge said the fear and panic was the same; and he couldn’t believe he was going to be in another “Battle of the Bulge” and survive again.
That's CCP propoganda man. I've done some research into the Korean War and have never seen or heard such an event occurring. I do hear Chinese propoganda films and ccp agents saying that though such as "the battle of Lake Changjin"
@@galatians-2.20 You need to do some MORE research. I recommend reading Pulitzer Prize author John Toland’s “In Mortal Combat: Korea 1950-1953”. I think this was the book that the US Army NCO or officer compared the sudden and unexpected North Korean invasion to his experience at the Battle of the Bulge because US and RoK were unprepared, overwhelmed and forced to hurriedly retreat to Pusan (now called Busan).
Just finished my first 4 year hitch,back home drinking a 6 pac with my brother in law when he mentioned that his dad was a Korean war Vet,
told him to call him up, we'll shoot the shit. His dad shows up, and he asks me where I was stationed? told him I just got off the Czech border for 36 months, told him what been thru, never going back!! Company retention was 1/120 personal, and (only) rotation back to the States... kept personal in the Army... after getting another case of beer, he started opening up. He said he was a rifle man, in (I think it was the 4th inf div.) Stated he was Pvt E /1 before he cycle back to the States he was promoted up the ranks to Capt. Field grade promotions, unbleaveble events that he told, he stated the horns that the Chinese Army used, snap men's minds! stated that the waves after waves of Chinese Inf that were mowed down, piled in some places 5' to 7' ft deep. quite common to burn up a M 60 maching barrel, then the second spare barrel,cook off was common, every time they charge, stated he seen complete platoon desert,
I told him i seen the same thing very similar to whats happens happen in 76 when we went on Alert, went from a state #8 mattence status to a state# 3 in 30 min/ in 5 min later state #2, ready to drop to deft com# 2... Seen men loose it when the tanks surrounded our TAC site, M60 Maching guns / Clay more mines being shoved on to us, bandoleer, crates of M 203 grande rounds, shoved in our Field jackets pockets, we were ADA Hawk Missel personal, Trying to pull up Inf tactics from basic training, was a SOB on a pay day night when 1 hr befor your in a Gest house drinking Duper bac beer, hunker down in a two man fighting position, you could tell its was going down when the 2/ 47 FA were knocking down trees with the M60 A1 tanks,
He went on to say that he saw more than any man should ever see, then he went quiet,
We shook hands, said he had to go, thanks for the talk, and said he's haven't had a chance to talk about this in 30 years, one hell of a man,

@@daleslover2771 The M 60 machine gun was not issued until 1959. The M2 Browning was the machine gun used in Korea.
I grew up with men who were in Korean war, the stories they told were engaging to say the least. Hoards of Chinese soldiers coming over a ridge line one after the other and being mowed down by fire from half track for hours on end. Being pushed back every day because the US had inferior weapons and the politicians not understanding what needed to be done. I see this same scenario starting right now with the lack of courage from the generation of cowards we are raising today.

@craigaust3306 I see your point, but Ray didn't say that our military is full of cowards (although there is STRONG evidence that the top brass is. He said "this generation" and he isn't wrong. I have 2 teenagers and seeing their friends certainly does not give me hope for a strong military tomorrow.
The footage of those training Asian troops were not North Korean communists but Chinese Nationalist Army (KMT) German-trained elite troops during the war with Japan.
good eye. KMT were given the German helmet, weapons & training. Interesting since Japan and Germany were Axis allies later in the war.
Had a Budy at church, I always got him BLACK Coffee in the mornings. He loved Hanging out with me at the coffee and doughnuts wafting for Chinese or Korean Students to Speak with them and exercise his skills. My Friend was a US GI Interpreter and forward Observer and double dutied spilling out BS Orders and Info to the Enemies While Listening to their radio traffic. I was the Only One "I knew of" who he told his stories, one of a Very Nasty Attack he used his radio jeep to evacuate wounded Koreans under direct and in direct fire, and Came Back, did it again.

They mention the Soviet Union being absent from the security council vote. Another benefit was that the vote representing China wasnt the PRC/CCP. It was government we know today as Taiwan.

For my eighth grade history fair project I interviewed one of my dad’s friends who is a medic in the Korean War and he talked about how they would tie frozen soldiers together like sandbags to the Jeeps to stop the bullets while they medevac’d people

my dad was an army MP in korea just before the war broke out so glad he was transferred stateside before the fighting began otherwise I might not be here ⚛😀

I get choked up when I see the look on the Faces of the Soldiers from task force Smith.
Prior to our 2003 deployment to Iraq an Army Colonel briefed us. He promised us that there would never be another TASK Force Smith. Only a few of us old guys knew what he was talking about. We were well trained and well armed. I do worry about the future. 10:22

I believe it goes back further than than that, right around 1936 when the Chinese asked Roosevelt for help to fight off the Japanese, who were invading, if I remember correctly they travel to Washing DC

Most of the island hopping battles significantly limited the effectiveness of tanks. McArthur in Kore was proof-positive of the old adage “we prepare to fight the last war.”
