  • A recording of the very rare (1 of about 3 or 4) Wilro De Mey dance organ from the old Mechanical Music and Doll museum in Chichester. Although the organ plays standard 88-keyless Arburo rolls it has quite a distinct character of its own.
    1 - Potpourri 1958
2 - Leentje Laat me Los!
3 - Kom Weer naar Huis
    4 - In the Summertime

Thanks Mechanical Music Recordings, for uploading this. I went to that museum in Chichester when I was younger as I live not that far from it. If I remember it was an old church opposite the cemetery, it also had a street organ if I remember correctly. It's a shame that it closed its doors to the public, if it was still open I'd go there and maybe have volunteered there. What happened to the mechanical instruments? As I've seen lights on in the building as someone lives there I think.

The museum was run by the Young family. Their son Lester has a business making new & copying old disc music box discs.

As you say such a shame that it closed. I went there several times when it first opened.

Clive & Lester Jones, not Young as stated in my previous posting. I believe they had a break in at the museum sometime in the early 1990's & a lot of small items were stolen.

There are 3 or 4 surviving Demey dance organs as well as a single surviving Demey piano orchestrion

The Demy Wilro is basically a regular Arburo under a different name much like the Riley Elf is a mini under a different name But why did Arthur Bursens do this?

This is basically a regular Arburo under another name as the internal mechanisms are identical to the Arburo. So how did this come about? Who was Wilro De Mey & what connection did he have with Arthur Bursens?
