65 key Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ - Stubbman's Carousel, Coney Island
zhlédnutí 457Před 3 měsíci
1 of 3 Bruder "Apollo" organs that was once located at Coney Island, and probably the least-heard of the 3, this organ originally played on the Stubbman carousel at the park. The organ features a distinctive set of tuned bronze bells added during a 1920's rebuild by the B.A.B. organ company. Not to be confused with the other 65 key "Apollo" on the B&B carousel. Welte Philharmonic concert organ - Linz Music Museum
There is a recording somewhere on yt of a similar organ playing "Via Eupen".
I spent many happy hours at the keyframe of this organ, i never did get through all the music!, had 14 cases and loads of seperate books, the scale of it is very versatile and it would play anything, both Brian and Boz Oram arranged a lot of music for it and there were arrangements from Hooghuys, Schollaert, Urbain van Wichelen and Arthur Prinsen, now in Belgium with the Rorive family and missed from the rally scene over here where it was local to me for many years, Boz would start in in the morning and just leave me with it all day so i could play what i liked, mind you, some of the music was better left in the cases, lol!
I've never the title of the last piece - it wasn't on the book itself. I've heard it on German organs.
First time i have noticed it says Electronique on the bass drum, i thought this was a complete pipe organ, doesn't sound like synthesized sounds are used.
maybe its the trumpet and saxophone thats the electronic part?
Nice
Danke
@khmam this is great!!
What happened to this organ?
Sure I've got a cassette of this organ.
An excellent LP indeed! Featuring arrangements by Albert Decap, (I think) Dick Gillet and of course some excellent work by Willy Van Wichelen (aka Willy Rockin).
I think some of the arrangements are by Louis Somers.

Merci :)
This was from the LP called 65 Key Wurlitzer, right? Now owned by Glenn Thomas of the US.
Yes, correct
I would like to know the name of the tune's being played if that is okay with you.
Yes - the complete tune list is in the video description.
I finally found the list. Thanks.
I wish this was a video showing the full organ, plus watching the various instruments play.
Thanks - there are quite a few videos of the gallopers and organ here on CZcams should you want to see it in action.

11 - Glaxonwals is actually a beautiful song called "L'amour est un bouquet de violettes"
Thank you! As is often customary with old LPs, if a book was unmarked or the title unknown, they would make it up!
The fact that some of the percussions are playing the wrong notes is a strange quirk of LiLi as the wood block plays the crash cymbal The crash cymbal plays the hi hat & the hi hat plays the wood block a most unique arrangement that many say gives LiLi her distinctive sound & makes her stand out from other 72 key Decap organs. How this came about is an unsolved mystery as no recordings exist of LiLi during her working life & one can assume she was built with this error which no one has noticed over the years as the general public who know nothing about organs would not even notice this strange quirk & so it has become a hallmark of the sound of LiLi & as far as is known she still has this unique quirk to this day! Some say to rectify it would ruin LiLis unique sound as it is an instant giveaway to the identity of the organ that some say should be left well alone as LiLi would not be LiLi without her strange quirk!
I hear it has since been corrected. Of course the organ wouldn't have been built with that quirk, it must have been something that happened at some stage when the organ was already here in the UK.
I volunteered at this museum in the mid '80's. Not long before he passed away, I've just discovered. Frank was a marvellous friendly eccentric man. I loved the hat he used to wear. My main memory of the Church was when I heard an interesting piano piece being played in the centre. I stopped what I was doing to hear it more clearly. There were several people flocked around a grand piano so I went to join them. Sitting at the piano was a little boy gallantly moving his fingers across the keys. I thought he was doing quite a good job of moving to the correct keys with the music. It was after all, a Duo Art Steinway Grand Player Piano. I then realised the young Lad was actually playing and not mimicking. A serious Beethoven piece if I recall. And played well! He was at the ripe old age of Six. I wonder where life led him? Maybe someone knows...
Thanks for sharing your memories of the museum!

This is a late organ built after World War Two by Rene van den Bosch who carried on running the Mortier firm until it's final closure in 1952.
Romeo why am I so in love 😍 with you
This is basically a regular Arburo under another name as the internal mechanisms are identical to the Arburo. So how did this come about? Who was Wilro De Mey & what connection did he have with Arthur Bursens?
Whose arranged that version of 12th Street Rag?
👏👏👏👏👏
Some spirited renditions here. I'm very fond of the distinctive Mortier sound.
What a great sound this organ has, I love the accordion too.

Interesting that the Mortier at the start has bourdons and trumpets? Doesn't look right with the fair organ figures on it.
Arburos place
Thank you for posting this video, a nice tribute to Stephen who had the foresight to take this footage of what was a very short lived venture. It was a good selection of instruments. The highlight for me has to be 101 key Mortier number 1075, with my favourite arrangement of Tulips from Amsterdam of all the scores out there (by Eugene Peersman) as well as the Arthur Prinsen party piece Entry of the Gladiators.😬
Thanks for sharing! Where is that Losche model J located? In which country? Is it in a private collection or a public museum or place?
Sorry, I'm not sure about that! This is quite an old cassette so I don't really know where all the instruments ended up.
Playing Off BAB Rolls Might Be J Lawrence Cook Arrangements😊
Correct!
Thanks for sharing this! This is great! If you are not aware, there is a larger Gebruder Bruder "Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ at the House on the Rock Attraction in Spring Green, WI. That organ is 80 keyless and also has brass trumpets. It was butchered up by House on the Rock staff to be adapted for modified use for the World's Largest Carousel (as well as apparently a source for sampling for other HOTR concoctions) and then sent overseas to Germany to be rebuild back to it's traditional format. Today it is awaiting repairs as it has had issues with it's MIDI player and therefore has been virtually unused since it returned from Germany in 2006.
Indeed, there are about 4 65-key organs, 3 80-key organs as well as a 69-key and one other of an unknown size extant. It's a shame the HOTR organ hasn't been played since its restoration.
@@MechanicalMusicRecordings I am unaware of a third 80 keyless organ. There is the 106 keyless at Flushing Meadows. There is a plan for the HOTR organ to play in the future.
OMG! You got a recording of an Elite Apollo! The rarest Bruder there is, and the ancestor to the Wurlitzer 165!
Actually the rarest is the Gebruder Bruder "Selection" Model but the "Elite Orchestra Apollo" is very rare for sure.
Is This From The Lp Sounds of Coney Island on The Riverside label ?
@@anthonygiglio9860 Yes, correct.
I wouldn't say this is the rarest type of Bruder out there - 4 of these 65 key models still exist, as well as a few larger ones in the same series. Some Bruder organs have only one model surviving worldwide.
@@MechanicalMusicRecordings The Bruder 94 Selection is an example of a 1 of a kind organ, right?

Prachtig instrument, waar speelt dat momenteel?
I was finally able to hear this great orchestrion and a few others playing this year.
Interesting - so the "Luna" is still in playing condition? Did you manage to film it?
@@MechanicalMusicRecordings The motor of the Popper "Luna" had a few misfires, the piano of Hupfeld "Pepita" could be tuned again and you could hear that the "Phonolist-Violina" had not played for 4 years. Overall the condition was better than expected. I have recorded almost all of the orchestrions in this room but it will take a while before I can publish them.

It sounds like a German barrel organ conversion with a Gasparini front so probably a small Bruder organ, probably plays from paper rolls, if the metal pipes on the front play they may be from a Gasparini as they often used metal violin pipes or they may just be a dummy set. 3. Deutschmeister Regiments Marsch.
10 is Lustige Bruder walzer (Vollstedt)
I personally think the wow and flutter of this organ adds to its character. I assume the W+F is actually from the organ itself assuming it has some registers that use electronic tone generators?
Partly true, although the fault is also down to my cheap cassette player/recorder...!
