đ Explanation of the numbers in this video: âą Understanding Cost To ...
In addition to annual costs, we cover the cost per hour and cost per mile to operate. We also cover key performance stats so you know what you're paying for.
Costs of airplane ownership vary widely from owner to owner. This video takes an average of the various expenses from existing owners and boils them down to simple to digest numbers. Your ownership experiences will be unique.
Me watching the P-51 cost: Damn so expensive, maybe the replica is cheaper
Me watching the P-51 replica cost: Damn so expensive :(
Where is the replica replica?

I have literally waited for this exact video from the moment I hit âsubscribeâ!
Thank you for doing the numbers.
Holy Crap Jon. Thanks for all the AvGas. My next flight is on you Buddy. Very Very much appreciated đ
@@CompleteWalkaround how long does the research take for this? What did you find out about the falconor(sp?) engine on the Thunder Mustang.
Iâve lusted after a Thunder Mustang for a looong time. But Iâve heard many anecdotal stories about that motor that scary me away.
Research varies a lot. Some of these videos I can write off the top of my head. Others, like this one take a long time. Depends who/how many people I know have experience with the plane and how much info is available publicly. Things have gotten easier now that I have a bit of a following. Lots of viewers share their info thankfully.
For the Falconer engines, here's how it boils down. They're a novelty act. They make extreme race engines. Which is fine, when you put them in your drag car or rocket boat. They're really low volume very unique engines. Thats great for some applications. The thing is, when your drag car breaks down in a race or your boat engine quits 1km off the coast of Miami no big deal. It's a wild man engine thats fun to tinker with and modify and get bananas performance out of and whatever else. Those characteristics don't translate well to aviation. When your airplane engine quits, you're having a really bad day. Quitting is the worse case scenario (maybe fire is worse I guess) but these sorts of engines also require work constantly. I read about overhauls being required in the 100 to 200 hour range. (hence the reserve cost). Again, for your race car, not a big deal. For your airplane, not ideal.
ââ@@CompleteWalkaround I read that reply as in the way you speak in the videos, matched perfectly, and was delightful
Thank you for supporting this awesome creator. I'm no pilot, and don't plan to be, but I do love planes and these videos with his snarky sense of humor has me watching every upload!
Do they include weapons? Asking for a friend
YES (answered by my friend)
Yes I want weapons!
Abolish the ATF and no issue. We should be able to own them anyways. Private citizens used to own warships lol
Only after market are available.
â@@gridtac2911
Yeah, but I think the FAA may have something to say LOL!
I'm not convinced these *weren't* hi res photos. Great two fer!
It was a bit funny to me to look at the cost per mile on these.
Like, "yeah, I'm gonna use one of these for my personal transportation needs, of course!"
Iâd fly to Vegas in one. đ
The Mustang has to be the plane with the most replicas...
Agreed. By far I would say
Cub entered the roomâŠ
Yes Cub is a good example. I'm of the opinion that cub is more of a style of airplane at this point. Rather than 500 replicas of the E-2.
Always wondered how much one of these replicas would cost to run. Thank you!
You can build a Titan T-51 with a 6.2 LS3 v8; 3/4 scale mustang with 3/4 a v-12. I daydream about building one of those in my retirement one day...
That's what I'm going with the Titan. As soon as the interest rates go down, pull the equity out of my house or just sell it
Bro! You have me ROLLING on these videos! "THUNDER!"
1:38 I spit out my coffee đ
I build my own P-51D replica. 1/72 scale. Much more affordable. But it doesnât fly very well.
Estes has got your back with a variety of engine sizes!
The ScaleWings was recently featured in a Kitplanes mag release. Sounds like a pretty skookum unit!
Stewart S-51D g limits: +9/-4.5
Titan T-51D g limits: +6/-4
Thunder Mustang g limits: +9/-6
Scale Wings SW51 g limits: +8/-4
Looked up the SW51 mustang like you suggested. I couldn't tell the difference between the photo and your drawing. đ
This is what I'm saying.
Thanks for making this! (: still more than I got but maybe one day! Are there any replica jugs?
Love your work. Keep it up, and thanks. And if you're a dad, Happy Father's day - not sure if you all celebrate that US holiday in Canada... eh? đ€Ł
I am and we do. Thanks. đ
Well would you look at that, it appears you already have a JMB VL3 drawing. Might as well do an video on it I suppose đ
You have the image of the VL3, please please please do that in an upcoming video. Although my wallet says make it way more expensive than I think it is.
And who wouldn't want to be your friend. Great video as always
Cost to own a pby-catalina mayhaps?
Someone tag him.
The Thunder (Nice AC/DC clip by the way) made me jump out of my seat.
I keep getting jumpscared by the thunder mustang intro and this is like the third time watching this video. good job nonetheless.
Great video, friend!
As someone who draws. Your drawings are great. Cool video đ
I clicked for the Thunder Mustang, not SW, thank you very much. Then I subscribed in hopes of finding a plane I might actually be able afford in my lifetime.
And that's why I'm all about an Airdrome Aeroplane Sopwith Camel with a Verner Scarlett 9S radial.
You should also do a texan jet trainer aircraft
Would you do the WAR aircraft kits? I hear theyâre fairly similar..
Looking forward for that VL3 vid. Became popular thanks to the sim, no to say, became known. Just saying. đ
The scale wings is cool but the prop throws it off for me. That's a major part of the airplane and its just WAY to small compared to the rest of the airplane.
Finally something on a Stewart!!!!!
The Thunder Mustang is the fastest single-engine piston kitplane... what about the Nemesis NXT?
Good question. Just a little searching, nemesis doesn't post a Vne or max speed at sea level but does claim a max cruise of 325 mph IAC. Thunder Mustang claims 75% cruise of 340 mph. Also max sea level speed of 390mph and a Vne of 590 mph. Maybe more to the story but preliminary check says TM is faster.
Why not paint an extra like a ww2 plane or other piston war planes from Cold War era and wear a leather cap? Has anyone done this?
Great Video! Thank you!
Brilliant as always. :)
The tiny props are silly
please do the game composites gb1 gamebird
3/4 scale is 4/9ths the size, so slightly less than half the fun perhaps (misapplying that counter intuitive square-cube law, I know)
...I guess I'm sticking with 1/32 kit planes for now! (How about a cost-to-own comparison?)
I'm not convinced that smaller things are less fun.
Who has the most fun flying, the Cessna 150/152 aerobat pilot, the F-22 pilot or the A-380 pilot?
I bet the two jets are both intellectually challenging from the point of view of managing the computers and mechanical systems they control, which is essentially the pilot's whole job. The Cessna is sure to be enormous fun, too, for people who like that kind of thing!
I would love to be able to build a thunder mustang one day
Hay can you do a cost to own Pietenpol Air Camper? Please?
Excellent video as always. What do you use for the True to life drawings?
Ibis paint on iPad. I think it's meant for teenagers drawing anime but it works for planes.
I wonder how long it would take to build a CH77
You are saying those weren't actual photos!? đ€Ż
Titan Aircraft has more T-51 Mustangs flying than all other kit manufacturers combined.
Iâm subscribed:)
You're the best!
AERONCA PLEASE!!! I BEG
I would bet the estimated insurance costs are way off. They are going to be a lot higher. Expensive hull, Tail wheel, high performance, retractable and experimental! Youâll be lucky to get an insurance company to offer you the go screw yourself price.
Extra for sure
Oh yes Iâm definitely the first this time
Bonafide
Id rather buy a Sea fury.
I DO want to be your friend!
Done
Frieeeend???
Sir does US have flying real p51 non replica?
Yes, but they are very hard to find, and very expensive. I think one that is for sale currently that is 40% complete is 1.5 million.
@@ViperPilot16 hmm but how 70 years old engines is still working?
*are
@@bbrother92 Just because it's old doesn't mean it won't work.
A whole lot of restoration work, and elbow grese.
@@ViperPilot16 so it's real case - old engines are flyeble
Eeeeek
hmm is there a cost to own a replica of the replica? lol
Ok the photo quality jokes can stop.... It makes the viewer feel like they're being called stupid.. Even though we know better.
I donât know why but I donât like them.
