Marek Slavický - I Sing to the Hills ("Oy Vershe, Miy Vershe")

Recently, I came across a beautiful folk song “Oy vershe, miy vershe”, considered a part of the Ukrainian musical heritage. This lament, coming originally from the Lemko people, talks of longing for home, longing for past times, and all that is left behind. Nostalgia that is now once again vivid and present among Ukrainian people. After listening to a masterful vocal rendition by Kvitka Cisyk from 1989, I absolutely fell in love with the piece and decided to create an instrumental, piano-centered interpretation and an accompanying video. This rendition, however, is not a lament. It is a story of grief, but also a story of hope.
