I have recently realised that a home is not just a perfect matchy matchy designer place. I am a single mum to 4 older teens, I work 12 hour night shifts for 111. I try to keep things tidy, but their friends love our home. They stay over and do not want to leave. Another thing we notice is that they snuggle up on my daughter's bed and nod off. They all say our house is so relaxing and cosy. I have spent hours when they were younger, stressing over dusting and hoovering, but her friends do not see that. They just feel the warmth and security/love. It has helped me relax much more xx.
Ooooh! You have some wonderful treasures on your shelf unit! ❤ I would keep the lemon, lime, and orange MCM containers (tins?); the big-head soldier guys; and the teapots with any matching teacups. All that will fill the space nicely while allowing everything a little breathing room. The pieces will stand out and get the attention they deserve instead of being lost in the crowd.
Hi Emma- I don't like housework either but it does feel good once it's done and the house is looking a bit better. I usually do the most cleaning when we are having family over to visit. It motivates me to do a bit more than my usual. The store you went to looks great! One of my favorite stores here is The Container Store and I've bought lots from there to help organize stuff in my house. Today I was able to spend about 30 minutes decluttering and I got rid of some postcards, old thread that I'll never use, silicone cupcake liners that I don't like and other odds and ends. My son also decluttered a bins worth of things so that was really good. I hope your daughter's exams are going well. Have a great week!

Hello Emma 👋 so great to see your hubby fixed his drawer - what a guy 💪 cant believe you are starting to enjoy housework 👏 its a practice not a project. Oooh i watch the feral trade wife and am rooting for her too. Oh my i am terrible with ocd i fix the products on the shelves in the grocery stores even 😂 ive always helped ny friends declutter, organize and often pack and move houses. I wish i could do it full time as a job. Id be organizing that music teachers papers and books during the lesson 😂. Daughters lord of the rings song sounds exciting 🎶 fun fact, did you know JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein South Africa but moved to the UK as a baby. I love random little facts. I would have been straightening up the music teacher’s room, I ALWAYS put like with like at the thrift stores especially and while I’m waiting to checkout at the grocery store,I never miss an opportunity to fix the candy and gum displays. ( I have done that since I was a little girl.) We’re not weird,everyone else is!🤣😂😅🤭😬😵💫
I used to do the same until my reviews came back when I was a student teaching that I spent too much time tidying. Since then I've tried to be cognizant of what I'm doing in shared spaces. After working with children for over 30 years, their actions show me I haven't been completely successful as they are quite tidy in our room.

My mother in law is another crazy OCD and CLEAN freak she puts me to shame and is my inspiration. She never sits still. She still hikes Table Mountain in Cape Town regularly at the fine age of 70! Norwich is a great shopping hub, I remember going into Marks and being quite overwhelmed at the size of it (we only have a teeny one where we live). I also watch a lot of decluttering videos and they always say you can’t organise clutter. First you declutter, then you clean and organise. Thats been very helpful in my journey to a tidier home.

Best way to keep on top of things (in my opinion) is declutter (often and ruthlessly) then the everyday cleaning becomes much more manageable cause the physical stuff isn’t there- and the mental mess isn’t there cause you can feel proud of doing the decluttering! Regardless of my opinion- you are doing great! And if you still don’t like it- take the emotion out of it- just look at it as I have to clean this, just like you have to shower and brush your teeth! When I invite people over, I like everything to be neat,clean and arranged. However, once we’re sitting around,I like when people feel comfortable enough to tuck their feet under themselves on the sofa and make a nest with the pillows and blankets. If they’re staying for a few days,I REALLY stop myself from tidying (because that’s what I automatically do every day) because I do want them to feel at home. I don’t want people to literally just drop in,but if they give me a twenty minute warning, I can do what I need to do so that I feel comfortable. Probably depends how you’re raised too.
