I’m happy to hear Bob Hartley still gets goose bumps over that moment. The entire city still does probably Boston as well!

As a kid, I had one of those great encounter with Bob. It was just before the warmup during a game in Montreal. He literally talked to 12 year old me and a friend of mine for a good 10-20 min. As he noticed my #21 jersey, he told me that he had bad news and that Foppa wouldn’t play the game. He then told me to keep it a secret as even the media didn’t know and that I was the only one with the team’s personal to be aware. Then, he introduced me to a 18 years old Tanguay who had only 5 NHL games under his belt. I ended up with couple of signed Avs puck and a stick. Just an awesome guy. The kind of memories that just sticks with you throughout your life.

These games are burned into my mind. In the pandemic I watched the finals against the Devils and it was such a close match up.

4 year run-1 Cup,& game 7 of Western Conference Finals 3 times-losing on the road...twice to the eventual Champs. This is when the West was vastly superior,& the WCFs usually were the defacto Cup Finals.(except when NJ was involved) Avs overall run was 6 of 7 WCF,& 2 Cups but Hartleys 4 yr run was pretty damn amazing. And damn near beat the deepest,& most talented team I've ever seen-2002 Red Wings.(2001 Avs are #2-granted I didnt start closely following hockey til 1995 when the Avs got here).
And dont forget-2001 Avs not only beat the defending Champs but did it without Peter Forsberg in the WCF,& Cup Finals-who was the best player on the planet at the time when healthy-my opinion. He was a top 3 player on earth-worst case.2022 Avs have an argument as best cap era team. But even they don't compare to those Detroit,& Colorado teams-cuz they just can't. It's virtually impossible today with a salary cap. You'd have trouble affording to have Peter Forsberg or Sergi Federov-as your frigging 2C today.
Or Blake,Bourque,& Foote as 3 headed monster,& the dcorp depth Detroit had. Or add like 4 HOFers to a roster that had already won back 2 back Cups a few yrs before-like Detroit in 2002 offseason.Or add Ray Bourque,& Dave Andrechuck at 2000 deadline...then add another Norris winner-Rob Blake,& Reinprecht in 2001. Unless you are Vegas apparently-its just not possible today to collect, keep,& add to your roster-the talent those teams had in the mid 90s-early 00s.

Is the adjustment from the khl as dramatic as the adjustment from college? I think about Cale's first game in the playoffs, Kovalenko will have a dozen regular season games or so.....help me understand the difference?

16:56 Torpedo officially eliminated so we’ll find out sooner than later if he fits into the team for the playoff run.

That’s if he didn’t hurt his knee with 2 minutes remaining in the game today.

@@Nixi8989 Where did you hear he was injured? Watched game highlights and didn’t see anything but did notice he wasn’t one of the six on the ice when they pulled their goalie at the end.

@@thenextgreat8652he was the victim that got them the first powerplay there at the end. He needed to be carried off the ice. The coach said it was minor, but he didn't elaborate further. So it will be a waiting game to see how serious the injury is.
