"None of us likes to be told to change his life. No doubt this was true for cavemen, and it is even more true today, when unfettered individual autonomy is the idol of the age. But for each and every person, Christianity means you must change your life. No exceptions, and the change demanded is very specific across multiple axes, not the vague requests found in heresies such as Moralistic Therapeutic Deism. In modernity, where money is the marker of all things and consumption the goal of life, few demands of Christianity are harder than that of extreme charity-the distribution to others of personal wealth. Nonetheless, Saint Basil the Great is here to tell us what we are to do with our riches; let us be attentive." . . .

The St. Basil and St. Chrysostom equivalent today would be going after the wealth of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. The Maximum Leader of the Worthy House's wealth is fine. Mr. Haywood give us this awesome content for free because of it.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Gifts and charity is different from giving the poor free money with no strings attached.
It is important for people to get out of the mindset of being a parasite. Work and duty gives fulfilment and purpose and pride in one's accomplishments. It breeds a better, higher form of man. Without hardship to overcome, we become spoilt.
Helping those who have suffered tragedy, improving infrastructure, improving opportunities for people to better themselves... Those are all very real ways to spend your excess in a virtuous way.

It makes more sense to help those who have fallen on hard times more so than those who, through idleness, do not work to improve themselves especially when they have others for whom they are responsible. Much like with modern medicine, it is the most useful for triage, rather than long-term health.
