Nick enthusiastically unboxes the Manta. He issues a challenge to @SquidmarMiniatures who got the Manta before we did. And! He makes some necessary sacrifices to ensure this is the best unboxing of a Manta ever!
Thank you to all our patrons! Thank you to all our subscribers! Thank you to everyone who watches and enjoys our content. Because of all of you, the rest of Play On Tabletop has to deal with an overly enthused Nick and make space for this gigantic brick of resin. Now, Nick has to assemble and paint this monster and the full force of T'au Warhammer 40k models that fits inside it.

Your plan to add all of the patron names to the model has a real-world antecedent. The 5,000th Boeing B-17 built after the U.S. entered World War II was signed by every worker that played a part in building it. By the time the aircraft, dubbed "5 Grand" was sent into combat it had over 35,000 signatures on the outer skin of the aircraft, which remained visible throughout its combat career. While the aesthetic of 5 Grand wouldn't fit well with the Tau (way closer to the Imperial Guard look,) it's an interesting footnote.
These are the kinds of anecdotes I live for! Very interesting.
I’ll have to look that up! What a cool story!
Lol imagine if it got shot down on its first mission
Curious, is it possible to print all the names on the patreon on a transfer sheet decal and place them on the model? Would be awesome if that was possible to make the procedure easier. :D
He could do it in the Tau language?
The commitment to throwing a whole coffee cup filled with coffee is one I can respect.
Oh, and the the Manta too.
Starbucks, too. Easily could have gone the DD route and saved money. I appreciate the commitment to quality.
If you're able to buy a manta, might as well just waste money on some coffee lol.
@@Jamesviolaofficial They are in Canada, do not assume the ease of going Dunkin, they could have gone Tim Hortons, but their coffee has sucked since the BK buyout.
@@daggumnametaken if you're just going to throw coffee does the quality really matter?
@@rayvg7709 yes, yes it does. That is why they got Starbucks lol
I absolutely love how energetic and enthusiastic Nick is
I guess that is why he, and only he, was okay with the coffee sacrifice at the beginning.
@@PlayOnTabletop Keep up the great work, all of you on Play on :)
called "acting"...
@@instantdislikechannel5699 ok? Don't get the negativity, besides even if it was just acting, it's still entertaining to watch?
@@pokalplayer6236 why are you associating "acting" with negativity?? It was only my observation and finally we aRE ON CZcams; WHICH SHOULD GIVE YOU THE FEEL OF ENTERTAINMENT:::
Aun'Steve vs Space Marine Steve has to be a coming battle.
Honestly it’s just so fulfilling to see Nick so damn happy, like a kid in a sweet store, it’s just so wholesome! Definitely a little out of my league but my “base of operations” for my Gue’Vesa Killteam i imagine is a beat-up, gutted and mostly disarmed manta loaned out to my beleaguered human auxiliary force.
Also I love how the first shot clearly took a few takes as the coffee cups already looked beat up xD hehe
Great job and I can’t wait to see it built up!
As a fellow Tau Player, It was nice to Nick so damn happy like that! Congratz PoT! So Happy for You guys :D GL HF! ^_^
P.S. Be CAREFUL and do not throw away broken bits on accident :P I am not a fan of FW kits but maybe you have spare weapon bits from other Tau models that can hopefully replace the broken Manta ones? Just a thought since it looks like a good portion of the Burst Cannons are a no go lol ^_^;
😱
Let's fucking gooooooooooooooooooooooo 😱:D
I am Waiting for your Best Paintwork on this Model good Sir.
I know you can do it,... *SO DO IT!* [ Yes i do love your channel, have a great Day/Night! ]
You guys need a collab video where you compare progress and stuff
Its on baby!!
SHOUT OUT! SQUIDMAR!!
You have racks of infantry that would be perfect to put your patron names on.
Such a great idea.
@@PlayOnTabletop No one has ever accused me of having a great idea before.
@@HereticsRight 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love this idea
@but why I posted this the day it came out about twenty minutes after the video was uploaded but ok.
What if you put all of the Patron names in T'au lettering or whatever the T'au language is? I think that that could be a cool consideration
That's a cool idea, though the Tau'sia alphabet doesn't have all the same letters as the Latin alphabet.
@@leaguesmanoframsgate Indeed, they might need to make new letters that look similar to the T'au alphabet.
That's a really cool idea. I was also thinking maybe the top 50 patrons or whatever (I don't know how patron works really) could have their names instead on the seats inside the manta i.e. each of the tau inside is named after one of them patrons or something.
This! This! This!
@@tobiasparke4217 as much as I like original idea yours is even better imo
As a humble patron of Play On, I am so stoked to see this model come to life in the coming months. Even more so I can’t believe that All the patrons will be on the manta. As someone who came into the hobby originally over a decade ago as a tau player. I always wanted to own a Manta, in some way, getting my name on the Play On Manta is incredible! Enjoy the build and the model guys, especially you Nick!
We really appreciate the support!
Nick's excitement is infectious and that joke at the end got me. Can't wait to see the journey on this!
" oh that's warped a little - but i can fix it" and "ohh noo thats broken!" and "thats a little warped, unfortunately"
Those words should never have to be said when unboxing a $2000 model. it angers me that its normal for people to say that when dealing with FW models, and even more so at that price point. I hope FW is willing to send replacement parts if needed
Their customer service will replace anything that is warped or broken. They can only do so much when there’s 11 people on the FW team and they have to meet the demand of UK, Rest of Europe, Australia, Canada, US, Japan. Also resin casting is done the old fashioned way, i.e. pour resin into the mould, wait to cure, then peel open the mould.
Just have to email/call them for any replacements.
@@Normandy42 The point is that, for such a premium product, why don't they have a QA team inspecting the parts BEFORE they ship them? Especially with the long shipping times. I get there's 11 people, but that's not the customer's fault.
@@vashoom They ARE the QA team. They’ll look at what’s there and everything could be alright and still warp in transit. With the nature of resin, just heat up some water and it’ll go back to its natural shape. For broken parts parts, just give them a call and they’ll replace it anyway. For the most part, they’re there to make sure all the parts are there. And if they miss some? Customer service. Nowadays because of COVID they’re in even more of a rush because people want their shit and they want it NOW. So they do the best they can. It’s the human element.
Recasters can get away with it because they service maximum a hundred or so people on an email list? Most customers already expect a long wait anyway. They don’t have to service millions of people and stock a warehouse and pay livable wages wherever they are.
Why not hire an actual QA team? I honestly don’t know, could be they would see that as a waste of money when these people can do it as part of their job description. Want to keep overhead low and profits high.
I think that much of the warping is a result of shipping (possibly warehousing too, I don't knowtheir process), not necessarily QA. It can get pretty hot in a truck or plane. Add a little jostling and you can have an issue.
At least they're good, by all accounts, at replacing- though I haven't had an issue.
I get it, that we'd all expect such an expensive thing to be pristine, but the criticism seems a little unfair, given the factors beyond their control.
@@Normandy42 tbf they should have more than 11 people when being overwhelmed by too many customers. It is fully on themselves being out of stock constantly and not being able to get the money customers are already throwing at them due to not making stuff quick and good enough, that does sound like something completely on their decision end
Aah, yes, the Manta. Also known as the flying Titan. I’d fear for the other players if they didn’t have their own doom machines ro play with.
Oh we have other doom machines
@@PlayOnTabletop im excited for the first battle it appears in, it will be absolute carnage
I don't want to be that guy, but the manta really isn't that... well... good at staying in the air.
After a little test match at the beginning of 9th: it dies turn 1 or 2 because everything is shooting it.
The only thing that manta killed was it's own crew.
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 🤣
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 Yeah, I personally hate how you can't have flyers come in as reserve as this usually literally is what a flyer does in general. For this model it does make sense, but for every other plane, I am disappointed, as it was possible in other editions
04:06 Yeah FW has a stock of old sculpts that they include with their big products as crew, I personnaly got 10 Ork Boyz + 10 OOP Fantasy Orc Boyz (the sculpts from 2006) with my Garganthuan Squiggoth.
If this isn’t the start of a villain ark for Tak i don’t know what is
Cannot confirm nor deny
@@takkawana8380 Tak is Taskmaster (Takmaster) confirmed
Alright, so here’s an idea. I’m pretty sure this manta has 48 infantry?
Plus 8 crisis suits, 4 tanks, an ethereal, and two pilots.
You guys could totally do the top or first 50 patrons in name tags above the infantry, and then do the rest of the patrons on the rest of the manta.
Also god that thing is huge.
That coffee part reminded me of a friend of mine who, after purchasing her clarinet (a very expensive brand, about twice as expensive as the manta is listed as) and then went out for a coffee, decided to buy the most expensive item on the shops menu, as it would pale in comparison to the purchase already made.
So, Nick is paying for a steak dinner right?
@@PlayOnTabletop you accepted him getting a manta, he should accept almost anything from you. Only question is: when are you getting some stormbirds to go along side your manta (or mire likely against it)
Don't forget that the hammer heads can be replaced with devilfish that are also filled with firewarriors!
Nick looks so happy, how can one mans smile light up the room.
I hear that a lot
Nick's excitement is something I lived vicariously.
I love Nick's childlike glee while unboxing this giant. (I would be just the same)
You could print the names on to decal paper to make applying them a little easier.
You should paint it as a Farsight Enclaves ship, then bring it against Squidmar's ship is a Manta v/ Manta battle!
Nick's like a kid at Christmas in this one, it's infectious.
This is the first thing I saw today, and seeing someone like Nick happy and full of contagious enthusiasm is a nice breath of fresh air from my usual day.
Thanks guys.
How did I never know that the Manta comes with a fully playable army?! I could have saved up for one by now if I wasn't buying other models.
"They're usualy very good on fixing things"
Guy from midwinter minis sat in the corner with his year late plasma injector
Yeah when I heard that, I immediately thought of Guy and his Warlord Titan. I was like "Are you sure about that Nick?!"
@@cuteboy51 to be far to them, I think they usualy are very good, they just happened to mess up with one of the biggest 40k channels
@@DarthAxolotl Ah ok
I bought FW over 6 months, because they forgot the base for my Skaarac the bloodborn model and kept sending me the wrong bases when I asked. For the record: I've got 2 dread knight bases out of it, but Skaarac sadly needs a 160mm base.
The same thing happend during the lockdowns. I tried buying a Kytan, FW forgot the base and failed for a few months to send the correct base.
Seems to be a recurring issue.
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 Yeeesh.....that sucks!!!
Nick's such an absolute joy to watch. This is going to be a ride.
Jeez, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Nick so excited in any episode I’ve watched!!
He’s like a kid at Christmas!!
Watching this while building my THawk Gunship, feeling the same excitement that Nick is. The type of models you dream of as a kid
Forgeworld has excellent customer service looks at guys sun fury canon that was missing a part for a few months until the finally gave it to him
That doesn't sound good, that sounds awful.
@@farsalor2627 it’s a joke
As always, I absolutely LOVE Nicks enthusiasm! I am so excited for this series.
Thank you! :P
Watching Nick opening this Manta is like watching a kid open their Christmas Presents.
Can confirm
An amusing amount of surprise that something costing a few thousand dollars isnt poor quality :D
Now make a glorious kill team board out of it i want to see the deathwatch boarding it midair and try to kill the etheral
I watch both toy guys and squidmar. You both have such different takes on the whole manta thing. I’m truely looking forward to seeing it all. You just can’t beat nicks childlike glee. 😅
A moment of silence for that spilled hipster coffee.
Starbucks = hipster
🤯
When you and Squidmar both finish you need to have a battle of the mantas 😂
The first 30 seconds literally resembles what typically happens in an anime, quite fitting for a tau video, lol
The excitement Nick has is wonderful! I can't wait to see it built and in a game!
Congrats Nick, I'm happy for you! Patreon names as ribbons trailing along the rear would look super cool.
I'd love to have one, but it is far too big for my life. You can also use a heat gun or hairdryer instead of hot water to fix bends; it's much faster.
Thanks for the tips!
Nick/Play On vs. Squid….dream come true as a viewer! Rooting for you Nick! Motorise it so you have another one up XD! Can’t wait to see the progression videos!
I love em both. Honestly for different reasons. Squidmar for my hobby content then play on for actual games. Wouldn't really consider em competition for each other
This is going to be an awesome build project, can't wait to watch!
He’s totally nerding out
Congratulations Nick! Can’t wait for the sky battle on the manta coming soon!
Keen! Just got into Tau and 40k cant wait to see all of this!
Enjoyed the little skit in the beginning. Couldn't be happier for Tau Nick.
Honestly, I never watch unboxing videos, but upon seeing what this one's about, I had to make an exception. Nick, your giddyness and sheer happiness at unpacking every single box is infectious. Sat here with a big smile for the entire vid. I sincerely hope that you can maintain some of this initial enthusiasm throughout the following months of working on this amazing piece. I'll definitely be there to watch you guys do it :)
Nick just got a hole lot of fire power in his collection. The team should be worried about it.Please take your time I want to see this thing and all it’s glory.FOR THE GREATER GOOD!!!
FW resin warps occasionally. That’s like saying the sun is sometimes hot. FW regularly ships warped resin models, so much so that we all expect it and know how how to correct resin swords, etc. they take zero pride in their most expensive models and should be shamed of their lack of quality control.
From what I've heard there are 11 constantly overworked people on the FW team doing the whole QA themselves, that being or not being true it does seem like FW/GW are solely responsible for getting less money than they could due to shortstaffing stuff
Nicks excitement for the game & Tau is a major part of why this channel is so awesome
It's amazing how big this thing is and love Nick's excitement at getting it.
Looking forward to seeing it all come together
Maybe do a timelapse of the build with a voice-over recorded after, explaining what's happening. Love the coffee skit.
Seeing Tau Nick so happy made my day.
I can only imagine the amount of gap filling you will be doing. I feel obliged to suggest UV resin over greenstuff.
I've been partial to Bondic, which you can get at Canadian Tire and Home Hardware. It feels a bit thicker and comes in a nice pen applicator. I've done some simple shaping/cleanup with a rubber sculpting tool before hitting it with a uv light.
Thanks for the tips!
"Hey guys, today were doing gap filling!"
*pulls out 2 meters of green stuff*
Damn, the more i see him, the more i love taunick.
Looks great! Looking forward to follow the build and painting!
The best early Christmas present Tau Nick could possibly have.
Great ending with tak, didn't expect that lol
Seeing Nick open the Manta just made me so happy. Like a kid on Christmas. Also, a banner-carrying parade Manta would be awesome.
Im really happy for you Tau Nick . For the greater good !! . ( On a side note i can't believe the low quality and defects of a such an expensive model. )
Welcome to Forge World. There's quite interesting convos in the other comments
i wish i have ever been excited as much as much as this guy is about anything.
Okay with Squidmar's recent update, things are getting rad. A Diorama AND a tabletop-ready Manta duo? Hell yeah
I am very excited for this. I will definitely watch every episode.
Can't wait to see the process of prepping and painting the Manta. And I love that you are going to use LEDs and challenged Squidmar!!
Man when they build this and field it on the table it WILL be EPIC good luck on the build guys
Love the enthusiasm. Can't wait for updates!
taking the phrase "Pay to win" to the next level
Greatest start to a video ever!
One of our former local players has a Manta and it's fully painted. It's a crazy model. He transports it vertically in a child's car seat. We've played cooperative games with each person bringing 2000 points. He and I teamed up and my Tau Army sat inside the Manta most of the game while it cruised around sandblasting units with Burst Cannons and smashing stuff with Rail Cannons. Good times and I'm super stoked to see you got one, Nick!
Also he had to buy a reciprocating saw to cut parts of the model out of the resin.
oh boy is Tau nick happy gonna be some good times watching this build looking forward to it.. and a challenge uhhhh
So excited for this! cant wait to see more on it.
It's so adorable how excited Nick is the entire video!
You and squid need to play against each other, both fielding these guys and what fits inside
First video i've seen from you guys just love the enthausiasm for the unboxing subbed to follow this build
I saw Biggest Tau model in the title and there is only one thing it could have been. Happy for you my friend. Enjoy it! Also i did not realise it comes with the extra units that is really cool
Tau Nick geeking out is amazing and funny can't wait to see the manta built and table ready 😆
Nick, You are the reason why this channel is so entertaining.

It's so refreshing to see someone so excited about something they're passionate about
You know I love Emil, but seeing another T'au player's geniune excitement to this jsut gets me. Love seeing Steve get excited about hte greater good
This will so awesome! Really looking forward to see more :)
Really happy you guys are doing it, nick needs this far more then squidmar! I like his channel but you guys seem to have more passion for 40k then he dose. Or maybe I just get him as much, just seems more interested in being a big channel then really loving something and just showing and sharing
That intro just made my morning. God bless

I love that Nick is essentially a gleeful child on Christmas
Nothing like watching someone geek out over something that you also find awesome!
My man Nick finally getting the big thing! Congrats!
All my friends that play with space marines always say; ‘your Tau can’t even melee’. Well, who needs melee when you have this Manta.
You have no idea how much I would love painting livestreams
Hahaha that was the best ending! This looks amazing, really looking forward to seeing it!
Your geek-gasm is for the win! Congrats again!
I can’t wait for an update on this! It’s so cool
I can not wait to see Nick play this!
We can try to attach rockets to it and see what happens...
Can't wait to see it! I think a kill team game on/ in it would be amazing
That looks big enough to play an actual skirmish on as a map! Like, the Tau ship defending against a raiding party scenario.
Thanks to the guy who scanned all the parts and uploaded them in stl format, currently printing this same model. Aprox cost to print 133$ CND... Time: lots, should have everything printed by next weekend.
