  • How to fix a Ford P0174 engine code: Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
    A lean condition exists if the engine is getting more air than fuel in the cylinders. (Air/Fuel Ratio is off)
    P0174 Code is problematic code since it can be caused by several things.
    Ford vehicles with V6 or V8 engines, Bank-2 is on the Driver side. A 4 Cylinder has only Bank-1.
    Possible Causes of a Ford P0174 Code:
    ⦁ Oxygen Sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
    ⦁ Mas Air Flow Sensor (Codes P0100, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0104)
    ⦁ Clogged Fuel Filter
    ⦁ Fuel Pressure Regulator
    ⦁ Weak Fuel Pump
    ⦁ Vacuum Leak
    ⦁ Bad Fuel Injector
    ⦁ DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor) (P0401 code)

    I've got to take a moment to recognize the fact that I thought your video your illustrations and your mannerisms as far as convening the messages that you were conveying I have been fighting with my 2013 F-150 Limited I'm truly I wonder if anybody's really tried to fix it. I think that's why I'm going to go ahead and just take it to the dealer and suck it up that suck up the fact that I bought a vehicle that has issues and that's going to happen in many cases that's why I always leave some extra cash in the budget when buying a vehicle. Regardless there's going to be something that's going to need to be fixed, changed, or adjusted unless it's supposed to be certified LOL nevertheless you were explaining technical issues and things in layman's terms which was awesome and it wasn't a big " show", a "production" if you will. I know for myself I'm going to watch it again even though my problem probably goes a little deeper, but there may be some things that we don't think of until seeing your video and then it actually does help. So thanks again I know that was a long one but it was a well-deserved review. Don't get me wrong there are some videos that have production and they do get very detailed in the video and it does help because the many times the visualization is what helps. For instance a wiring diagram. I could go to sleep on a wiring diagram unless there's somebody there that might be able to guide or direct specifically what we're looking for we're looking for.
    ..... thanks again

    Well 2020 ford f150 xlt 2.7 ltr ecoboost... 41,000 miles on truck. have had o2 sensors changed.. relays.. fuel filters... 4 times in 3 years.. 2pbee is the code. Ford mechanic was talking to engineers that built the engine due to it not being bad sensors etc.... So they told him to replace all fuel injection components all o2 sensors all fuel relays and fuel pump and filters. All under warranty so it's fine but dang glad i got the extended warranty. The mechanic told me that if i had to pay for all that would be upwards of 3000$ the same mechanic has worked on this vehicle he even switches to the oil bay just to do my oil changes for me.

      Awesome that you don't have any codes for a while. When you unplug the battery, it will clear the stored codes, so that doesn't necessarily mean that the problem went away, but if the codes don't show back up for a while, that's usually a good indication that whatever was causing the code is now fixed.

    The spray they use to find vacuum leaks is starting fluid. It raises the idle of the motor if there is a leak where sprayed

      The issue is affecting the whole engine, which is something like a weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad sensor, weak coil pack, or anything that would affect the entire engine.

      I would test the MAF sensor, check for a vacuum leak, and do a fuel pressure test to see if it is in the fuel delivery.

    Been doing diy smoke test at home and only noticing the smoke coming from the IAC valve (no the top cap but actually the “butt” of the valve if that makes sense, not where it attaches to the throttle body) and the oil cap. Anybody know if any of these is normal? Im only getting g the P0174, already replaced O2 sensors, fuel regulator, EGR valve and solenoids, fuel filter, maf sensor and deep cleaned the throttle body and egr passages. Still, my LTFT is high (2.1 at 29% and 2.2 at 14%).
    I ve also changed spark plugs and coils, and cleaned the fuel injectors.
    Vehicle is a 2002 Expedition with 196k miles and about 3 years of not being driven constantly (maybe 20 miles a year?). I just decided to give it some love but this one has me baffled.

    Question, 96 f250 7.5l v8:
    Have lean on bank 1 and bank 2 (P0171 & P0174). Also it backfires when reved up fast, when taking off from idle it may hesitate for a second, and in the mornings its hard to start or if left for a few hours without being ran. Any ideas? Thank you

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Since both banks are having the problem, it could be something that affects the whole engine, such as fuel pressure, vacuum leak, MAF sensor, and so on. Lean or Rich codes can be hard to troubleshoot. Also, backfiring is often a timing-related issue.

    • @richardparker471
      @richardparker471 Před 2 měsíci

      @HVAC_Mechanic thank you, I believe it may be the maf sensor although I just replaced it only 2 years ago so I didn't suspect it. I texted it by unplugging while it was running and it only changed idle very slightly but continued to run fine.

    • @brianw8963
      @brianw8963 Před 2 měsíci

      You replaced it with what? OEM only for any sensors especially maf If you use cheap Amazon or Chinesium you’re just causing more problems . You have to have a good scan tool to see what is going on or find someone that does and knows how to use it. Good luck with that. You have to verify the problem first. If it is reporting lean just at idle and improves at higher rpm, it is most likely a vacuum leak.

I have come to the conclusion that no one knows how to fix this problem until all parts are replaced.My advice is start with the cheapest parts first,you may get lucky because no one and i mean no one can tell you the exact part to replace no matter what code shows up. I will be changing the egr next.

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  Před měsícem

      Lean and Rich codes can be hard to find the problem and fix. It's best to test the components first before replacing them, but in the end, it is whatever works.

      Hello i have a 2002 ford e350 xlt v10 lariat. The cel light turned on and obd2 codes are po171 po174 po102 and po460 the van still runs like a champ no hesitation no bogging out at stops nothing like that . runs smooth. When i use the live fee and run the engine i noticed the maf has low to no voltage so i delieve the maf is bad and my air filter is very dirty. I plan on replacing both the maf and filter. Wilk this clear the po102 and the po174 and 171 codes should i also use some lucas fuel injector ckeaner in my gas to clean injectors.also the pcv valve hoses seem to be wrapped with an material that apears to be around the hose with hose clamps and is all cracked. Ive read this is common with the ford e350 engines is the exterior material on the hose cracked or is it the actual hose . can you please tell me. What your professonal opinion is when it throws the 174 171n102 and 460 all together and yet runs well still oh on ocasion there is a whistle sound.

    Is smoke from IAC normal when using EVAP machine?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  Před měsícem

      Yes, this often happens during an intake smoke test. The IAC is supposed to be open at idle when the throttle plate is closed. It will depend on make and model of the vehicle.
