- We tested the water flow regulator that was made for the Turbo 500 still. This regulator is amazing and will work in any combination with any still where water control is critical.

Now that you had your T500 for a year, how is it?
@@c.a.martin3029 I've had the T500 for over 5 years, it was the water regulator that I bought a year ago.
The water regulator has proven to be a very good piece of kit, it's taken all the hassle out of the process.
Regards the T500, it paid for itself in 6 months and it's carried on paying ever since.
@@hisroyalblueness So you have used it pretty hard and it performed flawlessly for 5 years? How often do you clean the column? I have heard it can produce some off flavors when it gets dirty, does it need cleaned every run or every 5 runs, etc? Have you had any trouble with the boiler? Thanks for your time.

Can you run the T500 with a recirculation set up like a cooler with ice water and a pond pump and just use the included needle valve?

Yup I use both for neutrals.
I had a major problem with those water flow regulator. As I run the equipment for 1-2 hours the temperature rises without warning. What I found is that as the water is push through the motor it evaporates and bubbles form inside the pump. Is there a way of preventing that to happen. what I do is to just disconnect the power and the bubbles will come out where the water enter. then I will adjust the needle valve again which is pain in the rear end. (you know). I should hack that temperature gauge and make it beep when it passes at a certain point, but I am too chicken to do so. it's my only still and I love this t500. better than my small still.
Do u through out the alcahol thats produced fro 140 degrees up to 170 degrees for fear of methanol being in it?
Did you get a good non-neutral flavor from the G.W. rye mash after running it through the T500? That's why I'm skeptical about buying one. I want to keep flavors from my mash.
I wonder if you can connect a mile high distilling tower the the T500 boiler?
Did you use a clearing agent before running it?
George, is that an air still behind you? The little counter thing I have often wondered about these but you dont get but a little sip from an hour run on one of these lil guys.

I think you should try to run the turbo 500 with an empty tower to see if it runs the same. It would be nice to be able to run flavors through it, but I'm too chicken to try it.
+cmoran80 I just tried this yesterday. It works great and does allow more flavor to flow through the column. The temperature set is a little higher since you are not running it as a true reflux with packing. Good thinking on your part.

+cmoran80 I removed the rashing rings to prevent over stripping of the run. I ran it at 66-68 degrees C. Came out great with plenty of flavor.

can you still run a bad mash , vinegar etc ? i made a banana brandy the mash tastes really bad a little like battery acid lol use it for a still cleaning run or will it still make neutral spirit in a turbo 500, im about to buy one ?
Mash does not turn to vinegar - never has and never will...
I can't explain why your mash tastes the way it does but trust that it is not vinegar.
its not vinegar , but it IS so disgusting i almost choked siphoning it off the yeast , is it worth running through a still after all it does have alcohol in it , and it should come out neutral ?
You can run it to see what comes out. I cannot say for sure since I am not there but I would run it to find out.
How long does it take per 5 gallon run?
Eric D'llaggio depends on if it's a spirit run .or if it's a stripping run ..I run mine 190° slow but effective lots to learn still.. only four runs under my belt but every run I learn sumthing and each run gets better ..got three runs fermenting this week ..one was short 2 gal potatoes n molasses .. fermented in 3 days 9% low yield but taste sweet .
