The Razer Panthera Evo! Newest stick for 2018, but is it actually an upgrade? How is it different to the original Razer Panthera? Become a Channel Member→ / @nihongogamer
Thanks for your thoughts/impressions. I thought I'd provide some feedback on the design ideal behind the Panthera Evo (I should probably DM this to you) but I'm sure others would be interested too. The Panthera Evo is a return to form for an arcade stick performance. It is not meant to be be a sequel/follow-up to the Panthera. It's more of a return to roots. If there are any questions, please let me know. I love your videos and look forward to more!
Interesting! Would love to see this communicated clearly on the razer website too. I read the interview you did for a Japanese gaming site. The name “Panthera Evo” and its relation to other products in the line seems ambiguous. Is it on sale at Evo? Will original Panthera be sold alongside it? Will razer mechanical buttons be sold separately for quick replacements when at tournaments? I really love the size, weight and usability of this stick so hopefully extra clarity on the website will help it reach the hands of other players who will love it too. Cheers for the feedback dude :)
MarkMan23 hello guys from Puerto Rico!! There are a form to use panthera on xbox one, it is better sanwa or the razer mechanics bottoms? Im only have the pdp mortal kmbat 9 edition a harpp... sorry about mu english...
so it is essentially the TE-S to what the OG TE was a slight refinement with slightly better introductory price point , gotcha. curious what the next razer stick will be called
I have a Panthera EVO. Is there a way of installing a restrictor plate or to change the joystick to make it only 4-way instead of 8-way? I primarily use it for older arcade games and would love to be able to play Donkey Kong and games like that with a 4-way directional joystick but not sure if I can modify this stick or what I need to do.
I actually returned my stick because the literally took all the great features away from this stick. I ordered a Korean stick and taking this stick apart to mod it is a nightmare.
Update: I wasn’t pushing cable enough into the slot. If you push it all the way the trap door closes smoothly without catching on the cable. Thanks to the commenters who let me know :)
Hello. Love your videos. Would you know why the arcade stick would stop working after a few minutes of use?. Its weird because it doesnt disconnect. But after unplugging it and plugging it back on it works for another few minutes. Cant find anything about this issue anywhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Was waiting on this review. Nice. Edit: The stick looks amazing tbh. I didn't wanna buy the original panthera because you couldn't change the artwork without much of a hassle but this looks great. *ALL OVER THE BOTTOM*
That's why I like the SFV version - that art is dope as I love SFA2. No need to change the art for me lol. But you're right, that is the one thing EVO has over the original. But that's only one pro as opposed to a long list of cons when compared to the original RP.
I won’t be swapping buttons on a weekly basis , so I think a super easy 1 button access is a bit overkill for me. As long as you CAN swap it I’m fine. I’ll be swapping artwork much more frequently so this works fine for me. Plus the Razer buttons seem to be high quality.
1. No longer a mod-friendly stick. 2. Non-sanwa buttons. So if one button fucks up for some reason.... 🤷🏽♂️ 3. No battop included. Those 3 are deal breakers for me. No, thanks! Good review tho.
YESSSSS!! THANK YOU RAZER. The Razer Panthera (original) was soo cool but was so difficult to change artworks. I can’t wait for the artwork change video. I’m hoping the video will come out soon. I’m so close to purchasing this stick but I just need that one little push and your next video might be the one that will tip me over the edge and buy it.
I hope they make an edition with panthera hinged opening. That was so awesome and easy to replace the stick and buttons. I like the new design and the slim shape with the mechanical switches but the ease of modding it is what’s stopping me from buying it. I’ll stick to the panthera for now
Thank you for explaining the volume button. When you first mentioned it I couldn't stop wondering how it works until you explained it lol. Nice touch that they added the stick in for up and down volume while holding it.
When you mentioned it "digging into your arm" at 11:18, that's the reason I don't use my Mad Catz TE2+ as often anymore. The stick's thickness/height made it "bite" into my right wrist in longer sessions. I recently got a Qanba Obsidian and the problem is gone now. A stick's thickness/height definetly makes a difference in that regard for me.
Thank you for the thorough, informative review! I just ordered the Panthera Evo directly from Razer's official website as it was briefly on sale from $200USD down to $110, so I'll have some insights & comments about it I'll share here once it arrives and I spend some time with it.
Hello Nihongo 🙋 I buy a Razer Atrox "X-Box One model from Panthera" for some reason, the LT and RT "L2 and R2" simply won't recognize, I tested in USF4, KI, UMVC3 and emulators as well, do you know what could be the reason why these buttons "triggers" won't work 😢 Seems the Panthera "Playstation" model, these 2 buttons L2 and R2"let's say triggers" works properly. I really don't know why my triggers won't recognize / work. IF you can help in some way 👍
Nice stick indeed. I have the original Panthera and I don't think that stick has any hassles with it. Each company does different things to separate from other companies and once MadCatz left the joystick world things got wide open so companies now are going to implement a lot of new stuff to compete. You just gotta keep your eyes open to as many pros and cons as possible to keep from just buying sticks that you are not actually get use out of just to have arcade sticks.
i feel like a better test for the buttons might be an older SF like SF4, or an entry from 30th anniversary. SF5 input buffer makes more more forgiving links, and might make it tougher to appreciate responsiveness when it comes to combos like the way you are testing. Trying some techniques like combos with 1 frame links, pianoing Honda hands, pianoing reversals in ST, etc. Great overview though. The cord change sounds like a good change considering the biggest failure point of the original Panthera revolved around the cord going out.
Being able to change the picture is not worth what they got rid of. And I’m not a fan of the cord. I have no issue with the screw in fabric-covered USB.
i dont like it the blur of the camera and the dust in the air makes it feels as if the buttons had dust on them before we even got the plastic off, makes me shiver
I love getting a new peripheral. Especially fighting sticks inparticular. Especially ones that are an improvement and you feel can help out at least not hinder your Gameplay. When you feel you can concentrate on tactics and not execution of moves etc, well that is a great feeling. Is one other closest feelings I get with material objects to that of a kid at Christmas opening a toy you always wanted. I think now you may continue to allways get new stick if they improve or add a new feature etc. Plus when you have friends over no one has an excuse if you can play VS or a four player game. Plus I lovd using them for games that have simple controls that you only need a fighting stick for. Esoecially retro style 2 games. Then there is the fun of customisation or the hardware or pictures etc. It can even inspire you to learn soldering and put in LED lights which can help in other areas of your life. Basically during sticks are awesome. Just so awesome. I love your channel. You have such a cool, laid back style and that Hannibal poison and your enthusiasm and fun shine through to us the viewer.
Not hating the stick or anything but to me it's a big disappointment compared to the original Panthera. The two things you gain from the EVO version is the easy to swap artwork and the headphone jack, in return you lose the one button opening case, the hydraulic piston, the braided and thick usb cable that is removeable, the amazing rubber pad underneath that covers the entire bottom, the original Sanwa buttons. All these sacrifices just to gain the ability to swap artwork more easily and the ability to plug in an headphone for the same price is not worth it imo.
The panthera does NOT have a "hudraulic piston". I believe what you are referring to is the pneumatic actuator. Hydraulic means it functions by pressure changes caused by the flow of hydraulic fluid. Pneumatic means airflow. Hydrualic systems are very complex, heavy-duty industrial systems.
If anyone is coming here doing research, I used this as my primary for over a year. Get another stick tbh. Or if you get this, replace the buttons. The buttons included are hyper sensitive, resting your fingers on the button, even without applying force, will trigger the button. I had plenty of times that lightly hovering a finger on the button would cause an unintended input Something to consider. Everything else is decent, but not outstanding
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm new to console fighting sticks and I have yet to find an answer; does the cable need to be plugged into the PS4 the whole time I'm using it or is this just to sync it and then I can unplug it and use it? Reason I ask is that I have a 2 year old who runs around alot and I sit pretty far from the TV so I dont want a cable running across the living room that may be a tripping hazard.
the spot where the cable clicks into right next to the cable draw lid, If you push it sideways tell you hear a click the cable door will close smoothly and not bump into it like he had to in this video
Hi! I picked one up after much deliberation and after many video reviews, and I'm actually surprised that the buttons are super sensitive - like 1-2 mm of travel. I thought I would be able to rest my fingers on them but even the lightest touch registers as a hit. I guess when I read "mechanical switches" I was expecting a tactile click. I'm new to the fight stick scene, so is this normal? Are Sanwas the same kind of smooth-no click-sensitive feel? Thanks for your video reviews btw! They're really informative. Oh, also, now that it's Dec, 2019, do you still like the razer buttons over the Sanwa ones?
sanwas are pretty much the same. very sensitive and no click. the razer buttons are nice but so similar to sanwa that I switched to sanwa buttons in the Panthera Evo since they're replaceable. Razer still doesn't appear to be selling the razer buttons separately.
@@NihongoGamer Thanks for the reply! I was worried that I may have gotten a knock-off. Regardless, after playing with it for awhile, I've gotten used to the light touch and I'm starting to like it. :)
I bought this on release but had to send it back due to two of the buttons sticking. The shape was great, with the slanted front, but the quality of the buttons is not as good as the original Panthera. I now have the original model, which I am much happier with.
@@soulless0310 I played with pad for all my life too. I was always thinking of getting one for a really long time and finally made the decision. I just got it Today and feels very different, but it's super fun to play on a stick. I love it. I'm gonna go stick from now on. :) The only problem is the price. I got this for $218 at Amazon, but I think it's better to buy a good one instead of a cheap one. If you like fighting games I recommend getting it. :)
I've been watching your channel for 1 year now..when doing arcade stick reviews show tekken 7 wave dashing with every fight stick...to show how responsive or unresponsive forward and back motions can be...then you can say that it sucks for that type of gameplay..
1:16 This would've been the selling point for me right here. Quick, easy modding! I had to void the warranty on my Obsidian-I don't like the square gates these fightsticks come with, I prefer the octagonal gate. Luckily I'm happy with my purchase.
Have you ever tried a Korean stick? They’re usually preferred for 3D games like Tekken and Soul Calibur...mostly Tekken. I personally prefer the Crown 309 sticks because they are stiffer than a JLF or Seimitsu, and don’t have a gate. The return to neutral is not as snappy as a Fanta, but you can get stronger or weaker grommets to customize them to your liking. They’re really good for the Tekken style of dragon punches where you have to return to neutral after tapping forward. I just thought it’d be cool to see you try one out in one of your sticks. They’re pretty cheap, too. Here in the US, they’re half the price of a JLF. Food for thought, maybe?
I just got an Evo panthera and the cable issue isn't an issue. You have to push the cable all the way and it won't get in the way of the door opening and closing
@nihongoGamer :) about ergonomics, and confort to play like playing 3 / 5 hours session what the best stick, Razer panthera classic or Razer Panthera EVO? i dont know which one to buy between this 2 stick
Easy: pick the Quanba Obsidian. Almost the same price but even better built quality. I had a MadCatz TE and was testing the Panthera, but nothing beats the Obsidian in the ~200$ price range. The Hori Fighting Edge could be at the same level, but unfortunally I had never hands on this stick till now.
I feel like the main selling point of the old Panthera was the fact you could customize it however you felt by simply popping it open, you could easily screw down a pcb, you could fit an Infiltration lever in there and so on. While I do like the fact you can swap the artwork, it is irrelevant since I had the SFV edition of the old Panthera which I wouldn't modify anyways. Also, the new buttons just lack the clickiness of the Sanwas and that distinctive feel. A friend of mine let me play on it and I was kinda annoyed by the new buttons. Heck, I was thinking about getting one for Christmas, but I got an Atrox instead. The upgrade isn't worth it imo.
Damn. I have the original and only thing I like from this is how easy it is to change art. Would love some new samurai shodown art on it. Funny the older one has easy to change components access, and this one has easy to change art. I might still get it just to have 2.
You are going Fighting sick crazy and I love it. Just as woman can have to many shoes fighting game enthusiasts can never have too many fighting sticks.
On my razor panthera when I tap down on the stick it springs back up enough to input a jump action. It's pretty annoying when I try to tap down for a low and then my character jumps when I want to do like a 2 input and a 5 input. Does this stick also do this?
The stick looks sick but I'm concerned about the buttons. I remember buying a Razer Xbox 360 controller back in the day. I loved the controller but hating the build quality (the buttons would stop working). I had to replace the damn thing like 3 times before I just stopped using it altogether. I hope they've gotten better with their in-house component production quality.
I'm still new and plan to get arcade stick that's good for tekken and sc6 on pc any recommendations? plan to get either the panthera evo or panthera and can't decide which one better :(
I had the mad Katz for Xbox one and loved it. My wife broke it and I bought the razer for the Xbox one and love it. Now, I’m looking for the best fight stick for PS4. I want the evo but so many complain about sticky buttons! Help please?! What’s the best fight stick for PS4?
My only concern about the stick is that sooner or later, if you travel a lot, the base of the wire will get worn down from constant closing and opening of the hatch
My favorite controller is a wired ps1 dpad no ano and that big one with the black and white buttons leaning on your wall. The pad is more convenient in my bag. And way cheaper. No input drops.
Can you also show more coffees and even those peripherals or new coffee mugs. I would love to see any gaming related mugs. They now make cool heat change ones that reveal gaming surprises. Maybe could start showing us a new mug each week or I just thought I'd you get too many you could give the occasional one away if you get sick of any etc. Just a thought. You might like to keep them all. Or even as a prize in a fighting game competition.
i dont even bother to stick the cable into that small hole at the back. i just leave it inside and have the cable coming out from the big opening of that compartment door.
Only thing RPE has over RP1 is the art modification - it's a lot easier with an EVO to do art mods. Other than that, it's got nothing over it's predecessor.
Serious question, why would someone need to open up their arcade stick quickly? I feel if you set it correctly then you would only have to open the case once in a blue moon. In that case opening the box with a screwdriver is not a big deal.
Going to order one of these, Qanba shipped me a defective Obsidian. Their customer service follow through was awful. I was genuinely trying to stick with it but trying to have simple questions answered was a labor in of itself. Qanba doesn't even offer an expedited shipping option which I was willing to pay for considering how delayed my original shipment was. Qanba is supposed to be a high end quality brand but not to my experience. Literally mad at myself for wasting damn near a month when I chose to go with Qanba Obsidian instead of the Razer EVO.
Can anyone help me!?? Just bought panthera evo on ebay while testing it I noticed that when I plug it in it works fine for like 5 minutes and then it stops working but my ps4 does not say its disconnected untill I unplug it physically. When I plug it back in it works again gor another few minutes. Does anyone know how I could fix this? Or would it be better to return it to the seller? Could it be my console?
Sounds a bit strange. Some controllers needed firmware updates from the official support site but I haven’t heard of the Panthera evo needing it. Make sure console, controller and game are all fully updated.
upgrade on my opinion , buttons with micros cherry from keyboard are good , stick is ok and new format cable is cool and pratice for diary day use , your new stick is good congratulations
How light is it? I've got a Hori Fighting Edge and I've noticed that the weight on the stick really helps with execution, since it doesn't move around all that much.
Hi there could you please do a video on xbox 360 Street Fighter fightsticks and if they are compatible with Xbox Box One please as im wanting to buy the Round 2 fightstick but dont know if it will work on the Xbox One S
I am looking at this stick I think I'll go with this. My only concern is if I'll be able to use this with the PS5. The other arcade stick I have is a Hori Real Arcade Pro SA. I like it because it has Sanwa parts, but it's only compatible with two fighting games on my PS4.
I have both of them in mine collection! While the mechanical buttons are certainly not bad and very responsive the Sanwa ones are still the best for me! So I prefer the normal Panthera over the Evo. Still if are not into modding and want a Headphone jack and a Stick that is very light weighted and I can recommend the Evo version!
Here is a potentially stupid question: If you have headphones plugged into the fightstick does it only give audio for the game or audio for everthing. i.e. You have youtube opened and playing in the background as well.

Compared to pad, which do you prefer? I'm thinking about getting one, but I've been playing with pad for all my life
@@soulless0310 I played with pad for all my life too.
I was always thinking of getting one for a really long time and finally made the decision.
I just got it Today and feels very different, but it's super fun to play on a stick. I love it.
I'm gonna go stick from now on. :)
The only problem is the price. I got this for $218 at Amazon, but I think it's better to buy a good one instead of a cheap one.
If you like fighting games I recommend getting it. :)
How have you been getting on with it? I’m thinking of taking the plunge and getting a stick since I’m new to fighting games
Same
I've been watching your channel for 1 year now..when doing arcade stick reviews show tekken 7 wave dashing with every fight stick...to show how responsive or unresponsive forward and back motions can be...then you can say that it sucks for that type of gameplay..
YESS ALL OVER THE BOTTOM
IS BACK. Merry Christmas and Happy new year just in case you don’t post on those days! ^-^
For the cable, you have to put the big part inside, and the thinner wires through it.
I have the old one because I wanted the press open door, and can just change the art the hard way.
The atrox is the xbox version. Panthera is playstation
I have both
Nice video, do you think it's possible to change button for sanwa or hayabuza?
it's plug and play or not?
On my razor panthera when I tap down on the stick it springs back up enough to input a jump action. It's pretty annoying when I try to tap down for a low and then my character jumps when I want to do like a 2 input and a 5 input. Does this stick also do this?
Get a 4lb spring, problem solved
The stick looks sick but I'm concerned about the buttons. I remember buying a Razer Xbox 360 controller back in the day. I loved the controller but hating the build quality (the buttons would stop working). I had to replace the damn thing like 3 times before I just stopped using it altogether. I hope they've gotten better with their in-house component production quality.
Do you it is compatible with Nintendo Switch using the Mayflash NS Magic adapter??
I'm still new and plan to get arcade stick that's good for tekken and sc6 on pc any recommendations?
plan to get either the panthera evo or panthera and can't decide which one better :(
It sucks the evo doesn’t have the additional bat stick. But I’m diggin the headphone jack
What would happen is that the wire would ONLY get worn down to the point where the panel closes without contacting the wire. So I think its okay.
My favorite controller is a wired ps1 dpad no ano and that big one with the black and white buttons leaning on your wall. The pad is more convenient in my bag. And way cheaper. No input drops.
Can you show putting custom artwork or how it will work. I would greatly appreciate it
yo is there any way to get a usb cable for the old one ? my dog bit it .. it is working bot dont know for how long
This looks very nice. If I was in the market for a new stick, I would seriously consider this one.
Well one of the benefit from the button is make the stick more cheap of course
Good video! Do you plan on getting any Qanba fight sticks? Like the drone or Obsidian?
I think he's already done a video or two on a Qanba drone, if I remember correctly it was a limited edition BlazBlue Cross Tag version.
Will the warranty void if u open stick to change buttons, stick, etc????
Only thing RPE has over RP1 is the art modification - it's a lot easier with an EVO to do art mods. Other than that, it's got nothing over it's predecessor.
Luv the video keep up the good work also love the hoodie
Is it normal for buttons to stick?? :( or do I have to" break them in" ??
They should add the opening up option and keep it slim then it would be the ultimate stick.
I still like the old one more personally.
It’s not available anymore :( they have the street fighter edition tho idk if it’s the same :((
Serious question, why would someone need to open up their arcade stick quickly?
@@NihongoGamer thank you. Yeah.. How ccan i know if the stick is up to date?.. Sorry.. Newbie here.
You’re going to be showing your opponents a “vulgar display of power” with this stick.
hes gonna play with the cowboys from hell
i wouldn't pay a dimebag for this
upgrade on my opinion , buttons with micros cherry from keyboard are good , stick is ok and new format cable is cool and pratice for diary day use , your new stick is good congratulations
How light is it?
I've got a Hori Fighting Edge and I've noticed that the weight on the stick really helps with execution, since it doesn't move around all that much.
Thanks for the video am planning on getting the razer panthera evo
Hi there could you please do a video on xbox 360 Street Fighter fightsticks and if they are compatible with Xbox Box One please as im wanting to buy the Round 2 fightstick but dont know if it will work on the Xbox One S
Ah yes! An unboxing video is never complete without tossing a manual or two
looks great, but i just bought a qanba obsidian and a dragon (both are incredible), so i'm all sticked out at the moment.
Can't wait for you to review Nacon Daija
Finally someone does a proper video for this stick.
Looks like the cable is slotted to sit flush just gotta make sure its line up right to close the hatch.
I miss the old jack and easy access to open the case... I do like the headset jack though that mine doesn’t have
I love my madcatz TES+, perfect size and weight. This looks similar.
I am looking at this stick I think I'll go with this. My only concern is if I'll be able to use this with the PS5. The other arcade stick I have is a Hori Real Arcade Pro SA. I like it because it has Sanwa parts, but it's only compatible with two fighting games on my PS4.
this stick also works on PC or only suports the PS4? also, does it has the option to get one with arrows instead of the stick?
it works on PS4/PC. The WASD style stick is by 'mixbox'
@@NihongoGamer i understand, cause i actually like this one, but wanst sure if it had the option, thks for the answer, helped alot!
Do you prefer the new buttons or classic sanwa buttons?
I have both of them in mine collection! While the mechanical buttons are certainly not bad and very responsive the Sanwa ones are still the best for me! So I prefer the normal Panthera over the Evo. Still if are not into modding and want a Headphone jack and a Stick that is very light weighted and I can recommend the Evo version!
Looks nice but I love Hori Hayabusa parts so much now, I can't go back :)
Hello! Can you tell me if the original restrictor of this control is the square? Thanks.
it is square yes. You have to get an octo gate if you want to swap it. I just got mine today and it has a square by default
@@korsoupp6450 Thank you very much! :)
I have a question just a headphone Jacks works with other games as well on Steam like Tekken 7 other Steam games it would be great if it does work
Here is a potentially stupid question: If you have headphones plugged into the fightstick does it only give audio for the game or audio for everthing. i.e. You have youtube opened and playing in the background as well.
