I'm both an environmentalist and a Madonna fan, and have been for decades, and I know she gets it and I know she wants change. And I'm happy she participated and tried with this song. And loving yourself is the key to a great deal and it's more difficult than it seems. But her lyrics for this purpose (mobilizing people to fight climate change) largely miss the mark. "Remember this, none of it's real, including the way you feel." None of what is real? There's too much climate change denial in the world to put that line in there, and saying that "nothing is real" is too daft to have alongside actual wisdom in the same song. Privileged people telling others none of it's real including the way you feel doesn't work, period. We can solve interpersonal human problems with love, but climate change is going to take science, sacrifice, education, mobilization, and discipline to solve, or else there will be war because of disasters, droughts, fires, refugees, water shortages, and famines. She should be saying the things she says in Get Stupid: wake up, get up, time's running out, this is real, take responsibility. Don't elect climate change deniers to power or we will all be screwed. But anyway, she didn't. She sounds good on this song, and I don't hate it because I get what she was trying to do. But this is where Kabbalah runs up against reality.

I love this song, I wish she was more present as a whole. She could sell out world tours every year and I'd be at as many shows as possible. I guess we'll have to take what we can get :) hopefully 2014 but definitely 2015!
