    The 2024 Yamaha YZ250F is all-new and it has finally arrived. For our first day on the bike, we shook it down at Perris Raceway to break it in and learn all about it with Yamaha. The '24 model comes with an updated engine with a completely new cam chain system and new larger air intake boot. Plus it has all the updates that the YZ450F gained last year like the new frame, slimmer bodywork and more.

    I bought the 21 brand new. As a 30 year old who hadn't ridden in 7 years, it was a fantastic bike to re-up my MX skills.
    My review on the bike. It handles so predictably as everyone says. Never did I feel out of control, even through the awkward phase of changing my riding technique. Fast bike mid to top, and decent on the bottom, however it does not accelerate out of sharp turns like a 250 2 stroke, at least for a big guy 240+. Specifically im talking about seat bouncing a double right out of a corner. I just couldn't make it on the 250f when i could on the 250 2t. Everywhere else the 250f is just as fast and easier to ride, less critical to be in the proper gear on a fast jump.

    My KTM 200SX with '06 chassis and '17 YZ250F front end keeps my '22 YZ250F collecting dust. The KTM turns down better, doesn't push and is nearly as stable with a PDS MX-Tech shock! That’s my issue with the things besides suspension and the fact that they need a rebuild at such a low hour number. They’re a vet friendly or a beginner friendly 450. They don’t do anything odd. I guess after purchasing one you are going to need to put a few thousand more into it to make it sweet,& comfortable. At 10 grand already just to own one, then needing more mods ,more money. These bikes are getting to expensive to own. Pretty soon they will be the price of a car. I think this is why there are less and less people riding these days. NFW is a slightly heavier cam chain causing the change in low rpm response that they report. There's a new airbox and ECU with a new calibration that could easily be the cause. That also assumes there are no other internal changes not being mentioned. Did the exhaust need to change to fit around the new frame? Did the narrower body work mean smaller radiators?
    Personally I wouldn't want the seat on my 2022 bike raised by 15mm so I don't think I'll be updating. I would like to know whether the wider cam chain will fit my bike, though.

    • @ajhayes4582
      @ajhayes4582 Před 10 měsíci +3

      Exactly. I would almost guarantee that the less-direct air tract on the 24 is contributing to the less response, compared to the prior model.

    • @usmc03
      @usmc03 Před 10 měsíci +3

    Yamaha had us all fooled until now... they promised there would still be enough weight on the front wheel when they turned the engine around in 2014. we were worried. but they were right. the new blue bikes still turned ok in the 250 class.
    but now it's happened... they messed up the chassis geometry and the rolled-back 250 engine is too light for it. the bike just doesn't turn well (see 14:35 min). what's more, the narrow design is now limiting air flow and reducing power.
    they best make a 250 only chassis asap to get the weight forward. or put the engine back around again so it can get some air.

    Interesting so it seems the 24 isn’t as good as the 23, alot are struggling on this less stable frame especially DF, he has been struggling all year, them star 250 boys have no trouble turning them bikes why would you want less stability. And more boggy feel engine isn’t good either

      yeah literally they went away from the things that made the yamaha the best bike less bottom end and less stability/comfortability

      Idk. Looks like he’s gotten the bike a lot more figured out the last few races of the season. It’s setup. It’s a new chassis. Sag, triples and a complete linkage seem to be the solution along good suspension tuner for the 450. Personally I’d rather put a little money into a chassis that turns than one that’s a fat stable pig that makes me work 2x as hard to carve a line.
      My friend has a 23 yz450. 4 hours on it. I sold my 21.5 fc450RE right after riding his yammy. The yamaha is a far superior machine. 🫡👍🏻 I’m sure they’ll be fine. Having ridden a 22 vs a 23 450 I can say definitively the new chassis is better if your into a bike that carves. 👊🏻

    why cant manufactures have the knowledge of how to produce a pipe. . Every year they make a bike unreadable by putting a junk exhaust on. I am not going to show up at a race and going to finish dead last because of a stock exhaust. FMF and PC are so much smarter than the factories that its a shame. What idiots the engineers are. They can do the hard part of making a good engine but ate morons because they make such restrictive exhausts. I rather take my stock pipe off completely and let the exhaust blow out the head. And they make them out of heavy junk aluminum. How am I expected to compete in 40 B when every other bike has a Ti exhaust.? They should give us heavier springs if they are going to give us pipes that belong on xr100s. Just sell the bike with no pipes..Idiots. And just put a rear sprocket on with one tooth bigger sprocket. Forever they give us a sprocket one tooth too small.
