- Ride along on Operation Sneak-a-Peek, your tour of the operating areas at Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
For this special online tour, meet Maddy, 7, and Britt, 11. They had operations on the same day, then came back to talk about how it went and to show us around.
Operation Sneak-a-Peek lets you:
- Check out the rooms and equipment at the hospital
- Meet some of the people who will be caring for you
- See the clothes you'll be wearing
- Learn about and play with some of the equipment
- Learn more about your surgery
- Ask us any questions or come back later
You and other families can take a Sneak-a-Peek tour on the first Sunday of every month, or your family can call to take a tour at another time. Your brothers and sisters are more than welcome to come along! We hope this program will take some of the mystery out of what happens before, during, and after surgery.

I have had over 12 procedures in same day in the past 3 years, but I still watch this before each one!
When he said "it might get a little stinky like if your smelling markers'" I love to draw and I have alchahol markers that I use... I'm *OBSSESED* with the smell of those markers... Ahhhhh my life

@Kelly Ruddy I had surgery before. After you fall asleep, You don't feel anything. When you wake up, It aches a little. In a 1-10, I give in a 4 or 5.
Even though this video was for children, as an adult it made me feel informed about how the pre-op and post op-procedures go at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital goes. Adults get scared as much as children do. Thanks for the informative video.
Tuddy2000 Really.
I had my adnoids and tonsils taken out a month ago, I didn't really like the IV. Next time I am going to demand the mask!
THE TWO Girls were amazing
It awesome how much time they take for children. .

I had just one surgery in my life and that was getting my tonsils removed. I was in Kindergarten when that happened.
That's funny, considering that anesthesiologist is incredibly intelligent and has a better work ethic than 95% of the world.

Brilliant 👏 👏
I had 20 surgery. It's really not bad.
Me too
Funny moment I had when I had surgery: the nurse measured my heartbeat and I was so nervous, my heart was beating a little faster than usual. The nurse noticed it and said, “I can tell you’re nervous,” and I said “Yep.”
I went through the same thing, kinda. I had a severe asthma attack, and the nurse said that what he was holding was a needle, and my heart rate went up, then he just said the he was joking. (The hospital was the Bayonne Medical Center).

I never had a operation before. I almost got like the top of my finger cut off. I had a piece of wood in my finger that went all the way down to the bottom of my finger nail. Those wooden rails at Great Wolf Lodge used for decoration is the reason why I had wood in my finger.

When I was a kid, I had surgery a few times and the anesthesia gas they used was flavored! Never used an IV because you could pick between ALL these flavors like chocolate or strawberry! I wish they used that for adults too.

Jessicaisrealawesome I chose one smell for all of my surgeries and I can’t smell artificial grape without like gagging and not wanting to be in that room
I chose chocolate
Even though I’m 30, I didn’t know until a couple surgeries ago that the mask is not always used for anesthetic gases. It’s used to give the patient 100% oxygen since they won’t breathe on their own when the anesthesia kicks in.
they put a tube when u cant breathe on ur own

That’s good. Personally, when I’m in the hospital, I prefer to wear a mask when I’m in surgery. But because of my hydrocephalus,I have to use an IV. I must tell you, I’m not nuts about them because i freak out when i get poked with a needle. I know I shouldn’t do that though
@TheMath2011 i love the mask!
Glad that Britt and Maddie have become good friends. Those kids are so cute.
I like the fact that videos like these let kids know what to expect when having surgery. Only negative is, there are few about what to expect about going in for inpatient surgery, so can you guys do one? Would help kids who have to stay in hospital for a night or more after surgery.
Why I'm asking...
I've have 3 operations and 2 were same day, but 1 had an overnight stay afterwards.

I will be having surgery on my stomach next week and if you ask what I will fall asleep during my operation I will probably chose falling asleep with an IV because most surgerys I had felling asleep with a mask and I did not like what the mask smelled like when I'm falling asleep so that is why I'm going to ask one of my doctors and see I could sleep with an IV instead
