Located at one of Louisville's 2 Historic "Grand" Hotels, The Seelbach Hilton are these interesting elevators! The other is the Brown Hotel.
The hotel these elevators are in is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS & VERY HISTORICAL, and the building is VERY WELL PRESERVED, which is RARE for a Hilton. This Hotel is also infamously haunted, There was a story about someone or something dying in the shaft of the service elevator.
The Main Hotel Elevators we ride in this video, one bank which is original to the Hotel were originally Manual Elevators from when the hotel opened in 1905, then modded in the 50s or 60s by Haughton. The other bank we rode in the video was either installed or modernized in the 60s or 70s by Montgomery with G&P Fixtures (according to Flickr).
Unfortunately, in the Mid to Late 2000s, both elevator banks were modded again, likely by Murphy Elevator judging by the keyholes, but they're very smooth and still have LOTS of Historic and Unique Charm such as the Old Door Handles, Logos from their respective former companies, BEAUTIFUL Handcarved Wooden and Historical Cabs, and Metal plates on the sides of the cabs which is likely where the Manual Cranks once were.
While I definitely wish these elevators were still original, the mod was VERY TASTEFULLY done and fits in with the Historic Hotel very nicely, and they definitely did a good job mechanically given the smoothness and speed of the elevators, and the Hotel itself is GORGEOUS and very interesting, and if you have the money, I'd probably stay here...
With that all being said, enjoy TWO Banks of Very Unique, TINY and Tastefully Modded Historic Elevators in a VERY Beautiful, Haunted and Storied Historic Hotel!
Installed in 1905. (Unknown, Obviously Manually Controlled though)
Modernized/Automated: Circa 1950s or 1960s (Bank #1, Haughton with New Inner Doors, Controllers and fixtures, Motors may or may not have been left original, Outer Doors and Cabs left as is), Circa 1960s or 1970s (Bank #2, Montgomery with New Doors, Controllers, and fixtures. This bank may or may not have been added at in the 60s/70s unlike Bank #1.)
2nd Modernization: Circa Mid to Late 2000s (Murphy? with Monitor PC fixtures, New Controllers, New Motors, Lanterns, etc. Doors and Cabs left as is. Both banks affected.)
