Jimmy P. comes alive when he gets up and starts playing doesn't he? It reminds us that a truly great guitarist doesn't copy, they invent. You can't "learn" to be a Jimmy Page, cause you can't learn what hasn't been invented yet. The most interesting thing to me is a quote from Keith Richards: " You know those riffs that I'm famous for? I had to sweat blood to come up with each one." So the most precious skill for a guitar player is inventiveness.

We were always over there and we hung out quite a bit ( he once jumped the fence at a salvage yard to try to get my car back from the wrecker, but that's a whole story by itself :). Anyway, one day he picked up my acoustic and started to play - I think it was Cowboy's from Hell or Flood - but differently from the way I learned it from the official tablature. We had a similar conversation and he wasn't really forthright about it but I finally pieced together who's cousin he was after he said "Darryl taught me." Later on, I remembered his Dad's last name was Anselmo and was from Louisiana.

Then they can either copy on a piece of paper note for note, or play it immediately after hearing it just once. Made complicated when songs are layered, this just gets them excited as they then focus on multiples of the same instrument in their head.
It is a trick and skill you will see in conductors and score writers especially.

I live in Siberia. I heard "Kashmir" in 1975. I was 10 years old. I've listened to a lot of good music since then. I have a classical education as a conductor. But Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" is no less than Bach and Tchaikovsky. Jimmy Page is a great musician, just like the rest of the Led Zeppelin musicians.

It's a generous sentiment, but I think even Page would laugh at the idea of Kashmir being on the same level as the Brandenburg Concertos. It's like saying JD Salinger is on the same level as Tolstoy.
That's not a disparagement of Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye is a masterpiece, it'll stay relevant until the earth is consumed by the sun. The same can be said of Kashmir.
But in terms of scope, range, complexity, diversity, psychological acuity, etc., etc., War & Peace blows Catcher out of the water, & Bach does the same to Page. That's why this kind of well-meant but patently erroneous attempt to compare one kind of classic with another actually does a disservice to art.

@@user-cn8me5nh8g Yes. Everyone has different tastes. And to explain in words the greatness of music is an impossible task ))) Frank Zappa was right. Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. I think that's what he said. For me, Kashmir Led Zeppelin is like Bach's "Well-tempered Clavier". Everything is there. Or maybe it's because I was tortured with Bach as a child. I am a conductor by first education :) But I agree with you - these are incomparable values. But the time is different. People are getting smaller. In our time, Bach will no longer be able to appear. For us, Led Zeppelin is Bach. I see it that way. But I don't think I'm always right. I could be wrong. I'm just a human being )))
