Why the top side of the front subframe mounts crack

  • This video demonstrates a very common part of the so called BMW E46 "subframe" failure.
    It's however not at all commonly known, and therefore almost never repaired, let alone reinforced.
    There are two main theories regarding the reason for the cracks.
    The first says it's because of the compression and tension, up and down, forces.
    The second, and the one I claim is correct, is that it's a result of the tilting/bending forces resulting from lateral, side to side (cornering), and front to rear (acceleration and braking).
    And the gusset cups supplied in my VinceBar kits are designed to address this second theory, or reason if you will.
