He Was the MOST SCRUTINIZED QB in TENNESSEE HISTORY (What Happened to Jarrett Guarantano?)

  • At one time, Jarrett Guarantano was the #1 dual threat QB coming out of high school and was expected to save Tennessee football. Sadly despite being one of the top statistical QBs in Vols history, JG went down as a huge disapointemtn and was probably the most disappointing QB in the last few years for them. Today, I want to talk about the rise & fall of Jarrett Guarantano and talk about what happened to him, enjoy!

Guarantano could be extremely accurate. He single handedly led Tennessee to a win over Auburn in 2018 and became the 3rd UT QB to ever throw for over 400 yards in a game 2019 vs Missouri. But his decision making was awful throughout, and by the time you’re a junior or senior you’ve got to cut those out

Me being a SEC fan, I got a chance to watch Guarantano on many an occasion. I know he played on some teams in which the offensive line left a lot to be desired, along with a pedestrian supporting cast. However, the young man fought valiantly...it's just that sometimes things didn't go his way...like in a headscratching fashion. Don't get me wrong, he did make some questionable decisions at times which did not put the team in a good position to win, but I thought for what he put into it, he deserved better results. But, that's just how it goes sometimes. Fans can be very hard on these kids and they've got to live with it the rest of their lives.

I agree with most of what you said but he was throwing to 3 NFL WRs most of his career in Jennings, callaway, and Josh Palmer and they bailed him out on a lot of 50/50 balls. He was more so screwed by horrible coaching that shot his confidence

I never thought he was gonna be anything but a huge flop. Saw it in the under armour game when he continued to overthrow wide open backs and receivers even in that game. I'm almost convinced that he and Milton are somehow related as both leave tons of points on the field.

JG was one of the skill players who got caught up in the series of bad coaching hires at Tennessee. He was underdeveloped by bad coaching and was forced to play in an offensive scheme that was inept. He was plagued with on field disappointments and never really gained the admiration of the Tennessee fan base. Most fans felt that JG was unreliable in big situations and that his shortcomings outweighed any effectiveness he displayed. Call him a casualty of the instability in the Tennessee football program prior to Josh Heupel being hired. JMO

If he had joined a stable program, he could’ve been a fantastic backup and become a VERY successful starter. There was just too much in the water in Knoxville at the time. I honestly believe JG would have been a much better QB if he had received better coaching. The same is true for Joe Milton III. UT has got to build a player development program. 4 and 5 star players aren't lining up to come to UT so UT needs to create them from 2 and 3 star recruits. But even 4 and 5 star players can improve given a proper coach that understand the position they play.

The entire Rolovich era was something of a tire fire post-Leach. Between Cammon Cooper never getting a fair opportunity and DeLaura being Rolovich's "guy" the entire program lost some credibility even before Rolovich stood his ground on the vaccine requirements that made national headlines. Weird era overall.

Before Heupel, TN was mostly a defensive school and that benefited the offense. JP was never going to develop JG. Most of what JG did was from his own abilities and developing them himself. He was a poster for for crash test dummy sacks. The guy was made of rubber and took some of the worst punishment defenses could deliver. If anything, I think he can improve in the NFL over time.
