Well I first fell down the cow hoof trimming rabbit hole and now the algorithm is serving me up some Farrier content and - yup I’m delighted.
I love watching both. Cows are awesome
But horses will always be my first love
Hahahaha me too!!!! Who knew hood tv was sooo good!!!
Hoof tv!!!! Hahaha
It's addictive
Didn’t even know what a farrier was, now I’m hooked on this. With my messed up toenails from disease I need a farrier not a manicurist.
I really appreciate the skill and knowledge of hoof anatomy required to be a good farrier the real question is how does your back manage to hold up it would kill me to bend like that
I think I saw someone say somewhere that you don't bend your back, you bend at the hip
I think that might have been why at one point he dropped the hoof and stood back against the wall for a minute.
It doesn’t! My uncle recently retired from farrier work in his 40’s as he’s now having regular steroid injections into his back for that reason. There’s ways to mitigate the effects, but it still can’t ever be denied that it is hard on your body
Gary from Texas, here, grew up around horses and cattle, it still amazes me to watch a farrier work his/her trade. I also remember the smell when they would burn-fit a shoe onto the hoof... a cool video! Thank you!
It's amazing how well those horses tolerate that process.
I am so glad to see that you wrapped up the feather while you were working on the horse. As the owner of an Irish Cob, I had a very hard time getting my farrier to understand that he needed to wrap the feather in order to do a proper trim job on my boy.
Find a new farrier, you know your horse better than anyone and if they can’t listen to a simple thing like that find a new one
Just wrap them up before he arrives then.
Have a new farrier now
I’ve seen people do it without. To their own horses. So idk
Man: Hammering the hoof with big nails
Horse: This hay is delicious
I have two questions for you guys. 1. What does the frog feel like. You can tell it's a different material than the rest of the hoof but you can't extrapolate what its texture is like or, how squishy it really or how flexible the trimmings are. Question 2. Why don't you use a hoof stand?
1. The frog feels like cartilage, only thicker. You can bend a slice of it. It has a smooth texture when cut. It's not squishy, but it has an interesting smell (not stinky). 2. Farriers often don't use stands until they get to the front and top of the hoof (rasping the front for proper axis) --- after they've trimmed the underneath (frog, sole [on this horse, the sole is the white colored, flakey stuff he's trimming with the nippers and knife] and wall of the hoof). He did use a stand when he got to that part of the trim later in the video. P.S. Dogs love to hang around when horses get trimmed...they love to chew on the hoof and frog trimmings. Snack time!
A man who takes pride in his craft will never lack for employment. You must be very well respected by your peers.
One of the best horse shoeing display iv seen no talking straight into it i also learned from it thank you
I'm genuinely impressed by the dedication to your craft. If this work wasn't satisfying enough as is, please know that it is quite intriguing. I am especially interested with your portion of video relating to cleaning up the nail job, I've never seen a farrier record themselves folding the nail into the wall of the hoof like that. Genuinely good stuff!
watching you trim a frog is one of the most satisfying things i've ever witnessed
Compared to the guy I watched who trims the cow's hooves you have an extremely low-tech approach. He has an $80,000 machine that holds the cows and grabs the foot and brings it up oh, you just put it between your legs. I am surprised the horse doesn't kick the chit out of you though
@@augustonthefly it’s a completely different process from cow hoof trimming.. they get horseshoes
@@augustonthefly cows are generally not as used to handling as horses and there are generally more cows to take care of instead of a few horses. Cows hooves can be trimmed without any machines, I have done it, but those cows love humans and I trusted that they would not kick me or try to get away from me while I was working on them.
I can just picture that horse strutting around showing off his new shoes. Feeling like a prized race horse. 🏆🐎
😂
This is so satisfying, I never get tired of watching this.
As a bona-fide horse lover, I appreciate the work this farrier..and all farrier's do
A very essential & admirable job 🐴🤠❤
I always love horses with feathers. It makes them look so elegant
Let's hope they don't take off and land on the roof.
Beautiful work and what a relaxed horse. 😌
Always a pleasure to watch a master at work. Any craft… not sure how I stumbled on to these videos but I don’t regret it one bit.
I’m always astonished at how calm the horses are…
Horse must be thinking, 'what pleasure does he get in serving me like this???'
Money 😂
I haven't seen a farrier work in years and I honestly forgot how satisfying it is :0
If his videos aren't some of the best ASMR then I have no idea what is.
I love your videos they always make me love horses more and more everyday
Big horse, big hoof, very nice job, keep up the good work! 🐎
always satisfying to watch your videos, my friend. Congratulations for the excellent professional and also for the work done! Greetings from Brazil... 🇧🇷
Wow... That's one HUGE hoof! 💖💖💖
Sure is 🥵
It’s probably a huge Horse
You know what they say about those with big feet right?
@@petert3355 They gotta wear big shoes.
I know a lot More about cow ,horse, and donkey hoofs than I ever thought I would
Me too😂
As soon as that foot drop with the shoe on agghhh the sound is so satisfying
It is nice to watch a skilled craftsmen at work. I consider this to be an art form.
9:15 A man that knows what he is doing. I believe that thumb was saying “Hell no! Not again!!!”.
My favorite part is when you take the horse shoe off. I love it! and when you trim frog😮🙂😃
And that times four. So amazing!
WOW you really earned your money on that one!!! Great job! 🐎🇨🇦
Is it possible you make a video showing how you upkeep your tools? As well as like what as goes into your job?
That is one heafty foot! Last time I trimmed a shire i had to use my stand for his hoof!
Cutos to you!
You definitely earn every penny, God bless you.
Love ur flips with the Hammer 👑👑
Bruh im addicted to your videos. Btw is your back okay?
Beautiful. Excellent job.👍
The biggest unanswered question...
How do i get all legs the same length, so my horse does not look like a wobbly table?
While watching the whole video the one thing i was thinking is ur back ..
That horse has a good understanding. Is it a working horse? Thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌵🇺🇸
Never actually watched a horse get shied before. Super interesting, didn’t know it was so complex.
Looks like a little battle there with the shoe. Great job
You and your tools look so small compared to “Big Jake” from the Farrier channel on CZcams! Lol
Great stuff and great work!
*GAAAASP* Never tell a farrier his tools are small!!
Lol
Love your vids so satisfying
It's amazing with the hulls these animals are big!!
I don't know if you've answered this before, but what song are you using for your intro? I get so into the beat of it and genuinely want to hear more.
Much appreciation for your videos, I'm a casual watcher and don't even own a horse but something about your videos are just interesting to watch.
Wow! That’s a great drill bit!
what a skill you have been blessed with ! I was amazed at how far the nails went up the hoof wall . I have riding horses AQHA's , appaloosa, mustang's . I never saw the nails go that far ... :)
What back pain he’s been cursed with😖😖😖
The nails should be up that far otherwise you'd damage the wall. A friend of mine is a farrier, state trained (some learned from only other farriers, she (yes she)) had a years long study and has a state diploma (more reliable). They all nail that high.
“Ooh I got my new shoes on and suddenly everything is right” 🎶
Wow! Amazing work
I take my hat off to you guys and gals. Watching you makes my back ache. You must have good core muscles to be in this line of work. 😊❤🙏🇦🇺🐨
Great looking job! Very hard and dry sole by the look of it! I wondered why on the finished hoof that there was a red band now going all round the hoof where the new clenches have been set? Bruising? Thanks.
this seems like an extra tough hoof
My back hurts just watching this
Brilliant! Beautiful!
Hey...Why there was a problem on removing de sole?
I'm pretty Curious about this kind of thing since i starter watching this channel
That horsen has some great looking boots on.
Baby's got some brand new shoes!
Just curious, why do you hammer the ends of the nails like at 11:35 , isn’t that what the clinchers are for?
After watching the hoof gp who does cows feet, I am amazed by the sticking to tradition by farriers when they could be doing an easier job using some of the power tools used on cows.
They put the cows in a crush that lifts up the entire animal and ties the legs firmly so the cow cant move. This way he stands behind it upright being able to use both hands with the grinder. I dont know any horses that would agree to such treatment, they tend to be claustrophobic. Usually, a horse will need more frequent trims than they do cows, meaning there is less growth to remove, so a grinder would remove to much hoof too fast.
Arms of steel, thank u
The hooves always look stunning when you done. I've never seen a farrier trim the frog or even around the frog. Enlighten me bc is this a necessity bc all the farriers I try only trim the tip of the hoof and then of course file it down. Just curious
I'm not a farrier, but I think it's to provide good air flow so that moisture don't get trapped. Depending on the environment the horse lives in, that may be a factor if the frog gets trimmed or not.
I've never seen a farrier NOT trimming the frog
@@Saartje05 Huh 🤔 maybe is a difference in where you live
What is the brown thing you rub on the horse hoof at the end of this video and what is it for? Is it just to make the hoof shiny like when you get a manicure and your nails get polished?
probably some kind of conditioner
That horse is really are dehydrated ha 🤣
❤️❤️❤️ Super! Super! Super! 😍
*Oh Yeah... That must smell just great! LOL - **6:53** Amazing how chill the horse is. Q: What kind of horse is that with Clydesdale feathers on the Feet?*
A shire
why is the wall blue before you clip it off? bruising?
Now that's an old world craftsmen. Loved your video and don't even like horses.
I wonder what mad lad was the first to grab a horse's hoof and start scraping on it with a knife.
I'm curious. Are horses generally calm even if you do stuff to their hooves? Or do they start off fidgety at first until they get more and more used to it?
It depends! Generally younger horses are worse but it can get tiring to hold you foot up my horse is young to middle aged I'd say she is perfect for the farrier were as a horse older could be worse, it just depends
Can the horses hooves get a fissure straight down the middle of its grooves if not given some extra space to grow? I would think with the thousands of lbs of pressure weighing down against it, and it’s growth would cause it to crack if not given some extra space, or it being so flush is how it’s supposed to be? Just a question, love the video. 🙏🏻 🐴 ❤️
I’m just curious as to why only one bracket, if you will was on the shoe in the front opposed to the side
Gonna need some new trimmers soon. Seen them start breaking on people, and the trimmings looked similar. Having to fight so much to get small chunks out is the tell.
Good job🤗🤗🤗
I'm surprised with such good hoof growth that his lad needs shoes but nice job all the same
The horse can't feel the heat from that
How do you know the shoe is level...not causing the leg to either pronate or supinate
Damn fine job.
Love horses with featherss
This is like watching a giant toenail Clipping video
This man’s back must ache 24/7
What’s the reason behind putting a hot horse shoe on the hoof? I’m really curious.
Why is the hot shoe put to the hoof? Is it to check if the hoof is level? Is it a kind of "blueprint" to know where to tack? I've heard someone a long time ago say that's to "seal" the hoof (I have no idea what they were talking about... I thought the ending bit was sealing...?) Anyways... Please be kind, I saw this being done when i was a kid and I wanted to ask questions but there was a language barrier 😭
It's to see that it is level!
am anfang.. "wie übersteuert soll die musik sein? - JA" :D
Awesome job!!!!! By the way am I the only one that think that song at the end sound like a Luke Bryan song?
14:03 some jackie chan move there
And the horse's name is "Prince". What a good boy! (Or girl)
Much hoof. Much.
Beautiful
Big job
got to love a Shire
@@TheFarrier well done
What's the bit in the middle at the front for?
That’s a huge foot!
I guess there are many factors, but about how often do they need this done? Thanks
On average every 6 weeks. Some hoofs grow faster = more like 4 weeks. Some grow slower = more like 8 weeks.
Hey guys, what do you suggest when a horse is trimmed to much, and the frog hurt when the ferrier, gets done, and the horse walks, is their something I can put on it to help,
A lot of people use Venice turpentine on the soles to help harden them up. Just paint it on with a brush
If your horse is lame after a farrier, get them to come back and check the nails aren't too high
My horses
Don't ware shoes
What is your favourite thing to do when shoeing a horse?
That will be getting the customer to make coffee!! ;)
@@larrybrown6068 hahahahaha
I'm new to this but I find it fascinating...can anyone clue me in on why he burns the hoof b4 putting on the shoe??
It's to see if the shoe is fitted properly. If the hoof needs more trimming or the shoe needs to be molded more. It doesn't hurt the horse at all.
im wondering how much calorie was spent. that apple watch has the answer lol. thanks for the video!
Hoofs the size like dinner plates.
They have stools to rest the horse feet on now.
Seems to make the work easier.
1:32 don’t hurt the frog ☹️
