Came here after listening to Geddy's Bass Track. Still can't believe how awesome this song is. I've been listening to it since 1981, so were talking 36 years, but I still love to hear it. Now time to search for Neil's isolated drum track. By the way, the person who gave this a dislike doesn't have any hands.
Alex is my all time favorite guitarist. I gave up playing guitar and realized that I was skilled elsewhere at a Permanent waves concert at the Forum in Los Angeles. From the 3rd row floor standing on my chair I was treated to the show of a Lifeson. Alex has been underrated. I'm so blessed to have witnessed his dedication and disciple to his craft at many venues and enjoy his recordings daily . I always get a Rush when Rush is played on the Radio....knowing how many followers are listening and replaying live concert scenes in thier memories . ..THE ENERGY IS CONTAGIOUS.
Underrated by who? Top 5 guitarists of all time. I consider him to be my all time favorite. Most guitarists are overated IMO. But not this guy. Nobody can make the guitar wail like Alex. Feeling, Speed, Mood, tech, complexity and uniqueness! Underrated my arse. Thanks for posting this though. I love this!!
While I think the reason Alex is kind of overlooked by the casual listener is because some of his parts aren't quite as "busy" as Neil or Geddy, but I think that is EXACTLY why Rush worked the way it did. Alex was the constant that played his role in Rush PERFECTLY and let Geddy's ideas flow around his parts. Hes the absolute core of what gives Rush its beautifully melodic feel while letting the others' ideas absoluely shine. And oh, his absolutely ingenius solos that are simply ethereal. Just absolutely a sadly overlooked member by the casual listener. And that's not to say that his parts aren't complicated by any means, cause some of them are incredibly difficult, but just listen to Geddy's part vs Alex's in the call and response solos between Geddy and Neil. When Alex is playing, he keeps the listener aware of where they are in the song, while Geddy plays several different rhythmic patterns in the background, creating like I said, this beautiful yet complicated and interesting feel to the whole band. We will tragically never get another band quite like Rush, but I hope that future musicians could somehow find a way to somewhat capture their otherworldly formula and make it their own 🥰
Exactly right. Someone had to hold it down and allow the others to shine. Alex had to really serve the whole in order to keep things together. Outstanding musician and guitarist.
Has anyone else noticed this on here and while playing it on guitar, but when you play that -.-- -.-- --.. there is sort of a bit of fret noise in the background ringing quietly?
Desde joven he soñado con interpretar a Rush en la guitarra y ahora con este video/audio puedo escuchar mas claramente la interpretacion de Lifeson y aprender su tecnica. Gracias, muy buen trabajo.
Is there a way to even do this to any song in particular? Or is this stuff taken out from guitar games? I want to be able to take these tracks and transcribe them for my own learning experience.
Songwriting credits are a weird fickle thing. This song is credited to Lee/Peart, but the guitar parts that only Lifeson could have done--those alone should have earned a songwriting credit. Geddy talks about this in his book, basically saying like even if theoretically all Gilmour contributed to Comfortably Numb was the solo, that alone is so integral to the song it deserves an author's credit, but it doesn't work that way.
The verses in yyz are harder to play on guitar than bass. This was written by geddy and you can hear alex isnt playing the exact same thing as geddy bc its just too awkward with a pick.
Is this remix from the original sounds or using some software for extract about editing many sounds/tracks ? I'm very intrested about softwares for editing. Thanks ! Pat. T.
I wonder if going into that initial main riff at 00:47 was supposed to be intentionally sloppy; almost (00:47 through 1:15) uniformly so? It’s noticeably “tidier” when they go back into it later on.
@@whipchorus3726 i think its meant to be like that, that part is pretty fast and it probably wouldn’t sound as good if it were tighter. Also Alex’s style when he plays fast tends to be more sloppy/chaotic such as in Freewill, but it works perfectly
Fun facts: YYZ is the call letters for the Toronto Airport (YYZ). And, the intro to the song is "YYZ" in Morse Code.
As if anyone listening to this didn't already know that...
No Shit.... really?
NOOOO WAY JOSE!
Alex Lifeson's greatest guitar solo, period.
Totally agree. Alex has said his favorite is limelight, but this solo is truly from left field and sounds amazing.
I’d say the second solo from La Villa Strangiato is better
Really? Working Man?

Me Too! I saw em in concert for the Moving Pictures playing in San Antonio Tx. Convention Center! They are/and were so awesome!
,m4h gfya loo
He's a magnificent player
He's Alex Lifeson, he's the best
And in the best band ever
Amen 🙏🏾

so you sucked at guitar?
The solo is amazing while isolated. Its beautiful!!

Preach Bruh! Alex is a Guitar 🎸 god! #1
Underrated means people dont think of him to be as good as he actually is
Yeah alex is one of a kind....spontaneously creative and part of the mechanical band from canada
Absolutely awesome, most underrated guitarist for 3+ decades.
I don't think he's underrated.
Alexander Brown but he gets overshadowed by geddy and neil
He's not underrated
...love these guys ....saw um live several times...never disappointed
Wow, nicely isolated. I'm hearing stuff in the solo that I've never picked out before. A great learning tool.
Now do Close to the Edge by Yes.
Shallex isolated means its separated from the rest of the song, not that it isn’t the original

It’s his effects. There’s supposed to be a bit of an effect.
i started learning this solo today too, listening to it helped so much you really gotta nail alexs vibrato and whammy stuff to make it sound amazing
GREAT job isolating it. Couldn't figure out how to play the solo, this helped a ton.
This solo will never not completely fucking baffle me
That legato section in the solo is tough to play.

This is not a backing track. It's an isolated guitar track. It never said in the title nor the description that this was a backing track.
0:40 the best part in the song
How did you separate this track out so well? Great job! Thank you.
He most likely got it from guitar hero or rock band.
WOW WOW WOW!!!
notice how he either tracks with 1 dirty track and 1 clean track or 1 dirty dry and 1 heavily chorused/flanged blended together.
Uma pena que as pessoas não dão valor ao musico AL, levam muito em conta a questão do instrumento e esquece que ele acima de tudo , é um musico.
Alexandre Mitsuru Komuro um baita musico...
Alex is eddies favorite guitarist....
Yeah, but he doesn't like Geddy as much. At least, not when it's a matter of who gets the beer.... ultimateclassicrock.com/van-halen-rush-feud/
I read a quote from EVH once that went "Lifeson plays chords I've never heard of".
Alex is the G.O.A.T
2:56 sounds like a splice-in.
Solid State It is one! Just can't be noticed in the actual song :p
yes there are plenty of punch ins on this recording. listen carefully with headphones.
Is there a way to even do this to any song in particular? Or is this stuff taken out from guitar games? I want to be able to take these tracks and transcribe them for my own learning experience.
In no way is Alex underrated. Maybe underappreciated
That's what underrated means
1:41 those two chords remind me of some of rush's albums from the early 80's...maybe moving pictures or signals
This song is on the Moving Pictures album though...
"Vital Signs" from Moving Pictures maybe??
How exactly was this track modified? I'm really curious. Would like to learn new songs like this definitely.

een playin guitar 30 years …. Tryiong to learn this song …. WHY did they have to make it so dam hard .

YYZ is from Moving Pictures.
AdmiralAddict we know
Not-so-great Solid-State guitar amps can sound pretty good in context.
Was he using solid state amps for this record???
@@snapascrew hi watts and mesa boogies
@fasionroadkill I am sorry, I just said the backing track is not in good quality but i really like this song. Dont you all misunderstood ;)
yeah love how Im trying to keep up at .25 speed while Alex looks at me with his fuckin smirk.. great track though lol
@hanten10 what?
@hanten10 why u say that
Probably because of guitar hero.
Wow, I'm absolutely loving hearing this! I'm noticing stuff I never noticed before. Interesting how sloppy the section from :47 thru 1:15 is!
Those are effects. Not sloppy.
Man Plus Shield those aren’t effects
It actually is sloppy, but I think it sounds better like this. Wouldn't have the same effect if it was perfectly clean.
I wonder if going into that initial main riff at 00:47 was supposed to be intentionally sloppy; almost (00:47 through 1:15) uniformly so? It’s noticeably “tidier” when they go back into it later on.

@hanten10 you are very wrong! lets see you do better.
Brilliantly played but too processed. If you're playing fine instruments, lets hear the instruments shine through the pedals
Insert "_______ is an underrated_______!"
No actually...he isn't. Stop using this stupid cliche.
Well, alex lifeson is pretty underrated. Very unappreciated
Alex is the GOAT!
very bad BT
