I have a hard time with the hard core loyalists, but I appreciate listening to David Ervine. He was an intelligent feeling man with an understanding of working people. We lost somebody who could be of such help with the boycott of Stormont we are currently experiencing.

He was okay. He was the nicest out of the Loyalists. I was pissed off about his comments over the Dublin & Monaghan bombings. He said it was the UVF returning the serve that the Provos had been doing to Protestants.. When in reality the UVF had been bombing the 26 counties before the Provos were even formed. And the Provos never tried to kill that much innocent Protestants in one go.

I still believe to this day that David Ervine was one of the greatest losses politically to this country! And has never been replaced , his intelligent observations and will to achieve an equal and fair power sharing for all in Northern Ireland was and is still unsurpassed! He made me question myself and some of my political beliefs through his deep understanding of the working class values and cultures of both sides! One of the best interviews was when he was interviewed by the great Bobby Hanvey on Downtown Radio and he spoke about his childhood and family! It was not for the news it was just him showing his influences and what shaped the man!

West Brit Who knew there were Unionist areas in Dublin?! You live and learn. Ervine was to my eyes, one of very few Unionist politicians that wasn't just interested in point scoring and inflammatory rhetoric. I agreed with almost everything he said, (apart from his main Unionist standpoint obviously) he was a rational man and would have become an important figure in politics here if he hadn't died when he did. Comparing him to the likes of Jim Alister is like night and day.

He saw the hunger strike as a waste. Without the hunger strike and consequent depth of feeling surrounding issues brought to light during the hunger strike and also the dialogue opened up between all factions that wouldnt have been possible without it, the peace process as we recognise it today would not have been possible.
