    Thank you for sharing your story! I've had several suspicious lumps removed that thankfully weren't cancerous (fingers crossed my newest isn't as well), a laparoscopy to remove endometriosis, and some minor surgeries. I'm only 27 and had my first surgery at 14, so from that point forward I had to learn to accept my scars - to me, they are my battle scars. When life tried to keep me down, I went to battle, and came out the other side with a scar that proclaims to all: I kicked life's ass! But on that note, yours is healing beautifully! I've used vitamin E oil to help with skin elasticity over scars. Sending love!

    As a guy in his early 30s with a cancer surgery scar myself, HAVE THE DOCTORS TOLD YOU ABOUT MEDERMA. I got cancer surgery on my neck, and the doctors recommended Mederma cream as a method of treating the scar tissue so it becomes less visible. The earlier you start using it, the more effective it is, so definitely look into it! I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer in September 2020, and they removed my thyroid and the metastases that same month. They found no more cancer in July of this year, but just like you, I need to keep going back for scans to make sure the cancer doesn't come back. They told me the same thing "you're too young," but I got diagnosed at 30 too. Best of luck to you, and stay diligent!

    I was one of the youngest diagnosed on Curacao at the time.

    I work in oculoplastics so we often see patients for bump removals on eyelids and for biopsies. Seeing many people realize they have BCC it even SCC is very humbling for me as many of them genuinely don't understand what it is and how they got it.
    I wouldn't wish mohs procedures and reconstructions on anyone as it is grueling and a long healing process. BCC and SCC can easily get out of control if not taken care of and I have seen them invade the orbits of the eye and eye itself causing loss of the eye and socket itself. That is what can happen if not addressed.
    Thank you for bringing light to this often taboo diagnosis. Please take care of your skin and wear sunscreen, because it is the only skin you have.

    I had melanoma on my back last year (age 30) and it was really really scary! But I've learned that skin cancer is highly treatable when caught early, and it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of cancers. I haven't had any recurrences or issues since my surgery. You're going to be just fine! :)

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby Před 2 lety +3

      Not to be alarmist, but melanoma is actually the one that can be a big deal in terms of skin cancers. I'm glad it was caught and hopefully it was small and hadn't progressed. The two other types of skin cancer are slow growing and rarely progress beyond the area. Melanoma is nothing to play with. When caught early, which sounds like yours was, it is curable. But it is the one skin cancer that can spread, so it's really very important to catch it early and I'm sure your dermatologist will keep a careful watch for you. I have very fair skin and some sun exposure as a child so I check my moles regularly. I had one false alarm which scared the hell out of me, so I know what you mean about it being really scary. I always wear sunscreen which is important to prevent cancer but also the sun is what causes 80% of aging (wrinkles, sagging, etc.).

    Madeulook the makeup artist CZcamsr had a skin cancer scare some months ago herself. I am so happy to see you both are okay and cancer free. I know it's so scary. I went to the doc when a mole came up on top of another one and the doc was clearly very worried and he said it needed to come off immediately and I was so scared because I fed off his vibes and I had waited so long to have it checked. He did the deep cut right away because that's how worried he was. I waited about a week thinking I might have skin cancer and being so sad and depressed and thinking about what if I get the worst news then it came back okay. Made me really understand though that I have to check it earlier next time.

    I had a lump on my back for yearssss. 3 doctors told me it was a cyst. I figured one day I would get around d to it, it did't bother me. Well, it started getting itchy and blood was on my bra strap. So I guessed the time had come. Another doctor says, 'Oh, it is a cyst we will get it out...no big deal." Lab report came back squamous cell carcinoma !!!! I had that for years!!!! The margins came back clean so they did't do anything else. Just the yearly full body checks. Once you have squamous cell you have a 96% chance at getting it again. The worst part for me was....it was the type that most commonly went to the lung...and there it was on my back!!! Your scar is looking great and soon it will to be unnoticeable. Scars are life experiences...it will be all good!!!

    My dad has just gone through the same. I have a huge mole on my toe that keeps growing and sometimes bleeds but the doctors just tell me it's nothing. But with my dad having had skin cancer it does make me wonder!
    I think because I have a life long chronic illness and I have had so many things going on and needed lots of surgeries like my spleen removed, my lungs have collapsed, I've had a pleural effusion where my lungs filled up with fluid and nearly killed me, I've had recurring pancreatitis which put me in icu and nearly killed me one time, I had a haemorrhage behind my eye which made me blind in my right eye, I have M.E, so I think the mole was the smallest thing the doctors were thinking about with all that going on!

It seems as though it has gotten larger since then and I actually have a second spot on my nose that concerns me. I will be making another appointment this week. It's a scary thing too think about but best too deal with sooner than later! Wishing you all the best in your recovery. Thanks again

    Nadine ❤️ I will pray for you I hope you will live a happy and healthy life.
    My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and it was a life changing thing, she had to undergo chemo and surgery right in the middle of the strictest lockdown, we were scared and I couldn’t even be there for her bc visitors were strictly prohibited in the hospital. But her surgery was a success and her chemo treatment helped too, so now my mom is also cancer free and my heart is so light and happy, and I treasure every moment spent with my mom even more.

    Hey Nadine, that is so scary and I hope you have a smooth, healthy recovery! Melanoma runs in my family. My dad's mom had it several times, including on the face. My dad had it when he was around 33 and I was still in elementary school. They had to remove one of his lymph nodes and part of his buttock on one side cause that's where the growth was. Luckily it never came back. My partner jokes that I'm a vampire because of how adamantly I avoid sun exposure 😄 Remember everybody, no tan is a safe tan if it comes from the sun!! Spray/lotion tans are great.

    I had Basel cell carcinoma on my nose when I was 25. I was so scared and when it was removed it looked like half my nose was gone. I had to keep bandages on for 2 1/2 months. And thank God it never returned. My dermatologist told me 24/7 365 days to wear SUNSCREEN!! I was 25!!!!

    Most traveler’s have the risk of developing this sometime in their lifetimes. Because of way too much exposure to the sun.

    Thanks so much for sharing. With where the bcc was it's possibly related to sunglasses and them removing the sunscreen from around your eyes or not being high enough UV related. Just another thing to consider.

    • @heynadine
      @heynadine  Před 2 lety +1

      100 percent , apparently sunglasses can also amplify uva rays depending on the prongs

    Glad they didn't have to go too deep or go in more than once. BCC is the mildest of the main 3, so that's reassuring as well. I know it sucks though, I had squamous on the side of my nose. It felt weird saying I had cancer or was free of cancer since it was such a minor treatment (removal like yours), I didn't want to minimize those with life changing types of cancer. But I am now super careful about sun and sunscreen. Glad yours was caught early enough to just remove and go on with life. :-)

    Good that they caught it in time and it didn't become worse than it did. And that they identified it correctly also. Yes, it is a worry and will continue to be a worry for you, but at least you are now aware of it. You can also be safe in the knowledge that if it IS a genetic thing you can ensure Elliot will be that extra bit safer also. Wishing you all the best for the coming new year!

    I can relate to skin cancers the most. I’m glad you are ok…
    In the end that’s all that matters.
    As a guy who’s had half his face cut off because of skin cancer I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit when you were concerned about a lil scar……..
