  • Young Archie has come to me to learn how to be a Driving Horse. So he's in his second day of Training here, learning to work with poles on either side of him to help him get a feel for what it is going to be like to carry a cart. Archie has proven to be particularly smart, calm, and accepting through his training, so I believe he is ready for this step. We work inside the barn for a while and then go outside to get him used to new noises and sights while learning to stay focused on his job of moving forward calmly.

No need for the awful check/bearing rein, let the poor young thing have a free head.

If they find that they can get the head down then you have created something that will have to be fixed . I choose to prevent it rather that have to fix it later

@@cappelhorsetrainingandshoeingI have not seen anyone else use the bearing rein while long reining, even with larger horses. Most do not put their head down too far and there is not even grass underfoot to tempt that here. Just seems too much for this under developed little horse to cope with.
