    So, I thought I should upload this video to make you aware of what could happen if you decide to silk press your hair. I'm not saying this WILL happen but it could happen, if not done properly. I pretty much explain my thoughts throughout the video and I'm glad I have a platform where I can share my experience.
    I hope you guys enjoy the video.

    GIIIIIRRRRRLLLLL, I hadn't had my hair straightened in over 6yrs. I got a silk press right before my birthday in order to do a proper trim. I should have just trimmed it after I steamed it straight with my Qredew. I had NO idea my hair would not revert back. I used 2 leave ins and 2 heat protectants and it STILL happened. I had to cut off about 5". My ends were like wet, freshly relaxed hair. I cried for 2 straight days because I worked soooo hard to get that thickness/length. All the ayurvedic products I made, sulfate free shampoos/conditioners, etc. That was 3 months ago and I am STILL cutting straight straggly pieces off. I feel your pain. I eventually sucked it up and started on my same regimen as before. Lesson learned.

    • @ShamyraC
      @ShamyraC  Před 3 lety +15

      Yes girl... I learned my lesson too!! Its crazy how all it takes is one silk press or one day of straightening your hair yourself for it to be damaged and not revert back. I recently bought a yaki straight wig for the days I want straight hair. I will not be taking that risk again with my hair. It ain’t worth it.

I was 15 years natural, was doing my hair myself all this time, hadn’t gone to a salon in at least a decade. then it all went down when I trusted the stylist when she said my hair will go back to natural after a shampoo. Now my hair is even worst than yours on the video, heat damage all over, some parts even worst than others, I look like a hot mess. I’m devastated. But doing it yourself you have ALL the power and control to determine if it’s too hot or how many passes you need to do on one section! Being in a salon sometimes can be intimidating because the stylist thinks they know more than you do. 🙄

    @n.i.a.hairbeauty7973 Před 4 lety +15

    Sorry you went through that mama! Unfortunately just like with other professions there are people that take a shortcut out like sneaking relaxer or even perm in your conditioner. I used to work at a salon where they did that and mixed it in the back smdh. There are also professionals that in my opinion didn’t truly take in what they learned in school to apply it to all of their clients or they forget the fundamentals.
    Another thing that may have happened is the stylist may have used a straighten system to make the silk press easier on them. In school they call is curl reformation. It breaks down the bonds in your hair for a long time before reverting back. 🤦🏾‍♀️ but stylist don’t educate their clients anymore.
    Lastly try a protein treatment in the mean time. Or even olaplex treatment.
    🙏🏾

    • @ShamyraC

  • @VincentBalducci
    @VincentBalducci Před 3 lety +2

    I’m so sorry this happened!!! What happened was that pressing comb was way to hot and the heat can actually break bonds. I find the same stuff happens with keratin treatments it messes my hair up so bad since the iron is 450. As a pro my honest opinion is that with a pressing comb the electric ones are better with a heat protectant silicone instead of the perteolium oil used in a traditional press

    I hadn’t put heat on my hair in two years. I was taking care of it and got it to grow out nicely. I got a silk press and trim January just to see how long my hair was and treat the ends. I got SEVERE heat damage on the entire left side of my hair. There is a section in the back of my hair that did not only not revert but is still BONE STRAIGHT even after multiples washes, conditioning, and a protein treatment. I am going through it right now working to get my hair back healthy. I just want to shave it all off.

      It’s the worst feeling to know you’ll have to start all over but that 2 years of growth will be back before you know it. This happened to my hair. I went to one stylist and she was wonderful, but her shampoo girl would wash, detangle and blow dry my hair. She was too rough and didn't comb my hair right. I could see the broken strands on my shirt and floor.
    So, I tried a new stylist and she fried my hair. Talk about incompetent. At first I thought oh it will be easier to comb my hair. Then I saw the lifelessness and thought about a big chop. I prayed about it and honestly most times it's in big twists and in a scrunchie at the back of my head. So, I decided against that.
    Now, that it's been a few months, I can now feel my new growth and I can see the difference between the two textures. My husband isn't black also and I remember the first time I transitioned. He felt my new growth and asked what is that. I laughed soooo hard. I also remember being worried that he wouldn't look at me the same with hair as long as my fingernail after a big chop. Thankfully, he loves me just as much as when I have long hair.
    I have decided to straighten it myself from now on even though it takes forever. It is all about the number of passes through the hair. Two passes at most. Once to straighten and the second time to curl. It's so hard to find a good stylist.

    Either the stylist used chemicals or extremely high heat. I used to silk press my hair every two weeks and my curls came back every time, side note I have fine 4abc hair. Everyone's hair is different but that drastic of a change in your hair says the stylist either didn't how to properly do natural hair or she used chemicals.

      Shamyra Chacon: Ahhh I see! I actually liked your hair. I’m hoping I can find a stylist that can do this for me. I actually had it before - years ago, when a stylist used a flat iron followed by a stovetop marcel flat iron on my hair. My front bang area stayed elongated/curly at the ends. But I followed CZcams protocol and cut it off. However, I no longer consider this as damage, my hair was pretty and not breaking or anything. I consider breaking/balding hair to be damaged hair. But my 4c hair is nothing like CZcams 4c hair; mine is way more kinky and about 90% shrinkage; and basically uncombable without some heat or other assistance. Thanks again. THIS CONFIRMS WHAT I NEED TO DO! ☺️

    • @Virtuenow
      @Virtuenow Před 3 lety

      Shamyra Chacon: I’m excited, sorry so long! I’m a heat trained natural and I have been trying to mimic your stylists results for a few years (off and on) with different flat irons (high quality salon brands) - BUT MY HAIR ALWAYS REVERTS & shrinks back - even when I use the highest heat setting. I’m like, how come I can never get “heat damage” like CZcams ppl, lol?! Only when I went to a stylist. But they’re so ruff on kinky hair like mine, I’m scared to go (rough detangling/blowdrying). But if I can do it myself even better. I suspected it was the marcel stove flat iron she used. I thought it was funny when she pulled out the marcel after she had already flat ironed my hair with the plug in😂. That let’s you know how kinky I am! 😂. Elite Hair on CZcams does a similar technique for some of her 4c clients that are super kinky (except she uses hot comb followed by flat iron). Anyway, this will make my journey so much easier 🙏🏾

    • @ShamyraC
      @ShamyraC  Před 3 lety +2

      Lol yes!!! Girl if looser curl patterns is what you want then definitely go for the marcel flat iron technique. And make sure she cranks that thang all the way up!! My eyes were watering and forehead sweating - that’s how hot it was!! She asked me if I was ok and I said yeah like a dumby 🙄😂😂 but if that’s what you want go for it! I pretended to be a straight hair natural after the fact but never went back. You’d have to continue getting the silk presses to touch up the roots.
      Don’t follow CZcams... do what works best for YOU! 🤗☺️😉 Hope you find the right salon!
