Since before time and space were, The Tao is... When you look for it, there's nothing to see. When you listen for it, there's nothing to hear but when you use it, it is inexhaustible.
Thank you for sharing this. To me, this is the most important book ever written. I was introduced to it around 20 years ago, It seems every time I read or listen to it, I get something new that I missed before. I've read or listened to many, many translations. This is by far my favorite.
Stephen Mitchell's and Eva Wong's translations put it modern terms and makes it delightful. What freedom this teaching provides both to live life and to live in harmony with the Way of nature and of right action, moral in the highest sense. I have studied most religious teachings, this and Zen Buddhism is for this person
The root of 'Zen' translates into 'to burn'... But to burn what..? And who or what is doing the burning.? And I see that there are no "morals of the highest sense".. *All* morals are immoral.
Yi Xi, the guard mentioned in the video, was another great master in the history. He recorded the great book Tao Te Ching, and spreaded it over the history, so as to wake as many people as possible. thanks to them, we could still possibly know the most beautiful and important truth of universe. so beautiful!
There is no way to the way , there is nothing to look for because there is nothing to find , because if you are free there is never a task, there is nothing to do , because you already are
Daniel Cardenas if you want to enter the emptiness of tao or you want to be the tao , first you should practice some principles ; no alcohol,no smoking,no drugs,no sex,and no meat.
Thank you for this recording. The purity of your voice brought a tear to my eye and peace to my spirit. Blessings to you. p.s. Would love to know if, you have other recordings??
Hi, please could you tell me the difference between mindful meditation and the main Tao meditation please? I have practiced Zen for a few years, but recently, I have been drawn to the wisdom of the 'Tao Te Ching' I am learning everyday, many thanks Lance.
I'm sorry Lance, I don't deal in "differences" because that would require a judge, one that identifies subtle differences between 2 or more things, and that judge would have to be thought, and thought has *no* place in true meditation. Correct, or true meditation is the understanding and total comprehension of 'what is'... 'What is', is the actuality, the fact, the reality.... No illusions, no image, no (illusory)- division between the observer and the observed, or the thinker and thinking. Meditation is the total comprehension and awareness of the "me", the ego, which is both the image, and the image maker. True meditation is the natural quietening of the chattering mind, to a point that the mind becomes perfectly still, and thought is at complete rest.. (which is the ending of time)- which is the (temporary)- abandonment of ones content of consciousness. It is at this point, the mind is 'open', or in a state of 'receiving' (there isn't a word for what actually occurs)- But the mind is still like a mill pond, like a mirror... And in that stillness, which is potential in inertia, the mind can reflect and absorb from the eternally nameless, the infinite pool of awareness, intelligence, infinite potential and consciousness, which is again, inertia, or counter-space.. What is made manifest in the mind from correct meditation, cannot be spoken of because it has not been seen nor recorded by thought (because thought is still, the censor and judge are absent)- so what has been made manifest, and comprehended by the mind, has not been stored in memory (as knowledge)- however, the unfathomable wisdom that has been reached is from then on, always attainable to that mind, when certain conditions are met.. True meditation is not about sitting cross legged, closed eyes while touching one finger to ones thumb and concentrating on ones breathing... All that leads to is a trance state or self hypnosis... Correct meditation is the bringing about of order within ones mind, through the total comprehension of disorder.. When disorder is fully realized and understood, it is then negated, (it is the realization and the understanding of disorder, that negates disorder)- and from that negation of disorder, there comes order... And that 'process' (which is not a technique nor method)- requires a very sensitive, awake and serious mind... And, even though this 'process' is not a method or path, there is no other way to bring about actual order. True meditation is the highest form of intelligence... True meditation is a very deep inquiry into the very being of the meditator... The 'movement' of meditation is the natural (not forced in any way)- ending of time, which is thought. This is a tremendously deep and complex subject, and requires a 'mature and serious' mind (not an intellect 'developed' through time and/or education)- but a tremendously deep, and serious mind in order to fully grasp the complexities to this, and this has not even scratched the surface to all of this... And even though a partial understanding of the depth of this, may take years of dedicated study and inquiry.. The potential for a complete realization, and a fundamental understanding to all of this, in an instant, are always there.
@@neoele11 Thank you for your reply, I just thought there are many meditation methods around the world, to access what you're describing, for example some Tibetans Buddhists use a visualization techniques, I was wondering what method Taoism uses to access what you described? Many Thanks Lance.
Oh, I'm afraid I can't help you on that Lance... "Methods" (as far as I'm aware)- are modalities of thought, and so should be looked upon warily... And just to clarify... It is *not* the method that attains the state of being I've described above... It is the state of mind. I'm *not* a Taoist... I *neither* follow the Tao nor do I practice Taoism..Although I do walk in, and with that which thought has labelled "the Tao".
Perhaps not so much 'atheist' as 'non-theist,' as the question of the existence of higher powers is inconsequential. Even gods or God would move in accordance with the Way, for that is all there is. Religions are paths, but a path is not the Way, in the same sense that a map is not the territory it describes, or how no model of weather prediction can ever surpass the simple watching of the weather. The trouble of religion -- or even a religious adherence to non-religion -- or a devotion to scientific reasoning, or indeed holding any kind of worldview at all -- even a Taoist one -- is that it constrains your vision to a certain interpretation of reality, while the truth of reality is beyond the scope of interpretation. Of course, we all must fall into our interpretations by necessity: the Way is the intermingling web of all paths, and cannot in itself exist without every 'thing' in it. Each of us represents a point of view that contributes to the whole -- as does every animal or plant or rock, every cell, every atom, every galaxy. This universe cannot exist without the myriad spectrum of believers, regardlessof whatever thir beliefs may be. If you follow a religion, then that is a property of your individual point of view, and is perfect, since your point of view is a necessary expression of the Way, which is all things.
Many Blessings, Infinite Love and Gratitude.

I keep it next to my donald duck strips
For people such as yourself, that is the best place to keep it.
Good idea since Donald Duck needs to listen to the wisdom of the Tao since he is very bad tempered and selfish.
Listen to poachers and Global deniers. Leave nature(Tao) alone.
If you let go religion, you become serene... sounds atheist?
laozi is atheist
