Salka's problem was everyone around Salka. He had heart, and did his best. His team had no idea how to do what was best for their fighter.

@AnAdorableWombat The rating system exists for a reason. It lends the sport legitimacy. When you see a title fight, you know the two boxers that step in the ring deserve to be there. If you don't respect the rating system... the entire sport starts to unravel. If belt champions are constantly fighting against unrated opponents, it not only wastes their time, it also makes it look like they're just punching down on easy opponents to maintain their belt. The commentators were as upset as they were because a fighter (likely his coaches tbh) were trying to bypass the rules and potentially set dangerous precedent/damage the credibility of the sport for their own personal gain.

They should have never matched these guys together. The reason Haye hasn't landed a single punch in the first or second round is that there was a commercial contract. It sounds odd now, but when you think of it, they focus on keeping the fight to a minimum of rounds so the fight doesn't end in 5 minutes lol.

Honestly though, as a non-fan of boxing the easy "knockdowns" are always the most worrying at first, because on the off chance that it is actually genuine, it usually means something may have gone very wrong for something to hit the floor so seemingly easily (by non-fan I mean that most of my experience of people hitting the deck from seemingly minimal contact comes from situations or sports where taking any sort of dive wouldnt be relevant)

Everybody failed Rod Salka in that fight. His corner throwing the towel in way too late, ref stopping it way too late.
