Warner Bros. has always been the best of the "underground" studios! They also signed the most risque record deals, during this period. Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper. If it's by Warner Bros, I eat h or listen!
Oh totally! I had to watch very closely to see that it seems to begin at 1:23; that's when I start to notice perspective shifting a bit. The term "lost art" is thrown around a LOT lately, but so many films don't bother differentiating between zoom and dolly out like that, particularly CGI animated ones by smaller studios. They just bring the camera closer, and don't realize how much better certain shots can often look with zoom instead. Hardly any appreciation for depth of field either. So when I see a film that really does this kind of thing well, like this incredible shot here? Man, no one can tell me it's anything besides art.
This film is clearly the initiator of a kind of cinema based on visual beauty and strange and shocking scenario. It has an atmosphere that we rarely find, except in Lars von Trier's or Nicolas Winding Refn's movies. In short, it's a masterpiece and it will remain the film that made me understand what was missing from the rest of the cinema.
LAN B. Agree.. and as a danish person I so proud of Lars Von Trier and Nicholas Winding Refn .. they like Kubrick understand that film is a visual media and shouldn’t be afraid of showing it..
I can't decide whether I like this one or the version from the movie better... Both are amazing but they feel different. The one in the movie feels more wild and crazy with its electronic sound while this one almost feels like a moment of silence for the corrupted young men like Alex.
Fun fact! The Kubrick Stare, which our fantastic leading man, Malcolm McDowell sports so perfectly here, is used to signify the characters height of insanity and depravity. Most of Kubrick's insane storymen develop this later in his films. Here? Alex is already there.
I've never watched Clockwork Orange before. But... Wow. Just no fucks given, Conker's Bad fur day copied this intro right down to the letter. Even going so far as using the same song, albeit with different instruments.
Well, here I am. Conker the King. King of all the land. who’d a thought that. “But how do [I] come to this?” I hear you say. “And who are the strange fellows that surround [my] throne?” That you may also say. Well, it’s a long story. Come closer and I’ll tell you. It all started yesterday. What a day that was, it’s what I call a bad fur day.
Never in my life did I think I'd watch a movie that could make me feel such emotions like this one did. This film and the book it was based off of should be studied in every school across the world.
I think that the seventies were unique in many respects. To film something like this film again would be even more controversial nowadays. However, let´s confess to ourselves this simple truth: there are no such stylish criminals in reality. Anti-social and barbaric criminals are made of a much more raw material than the sophisticated Alex. Alex is the mind invention of a highly literate adult man, much in the same way as Lolita is the invention of the mind of Navokov.
There was me! That is Alex, and my three droogs, Peter, Georgie, and Din, And we sat in the Korova Milk bar trying to decide what to do with the evening. No I'm sure it could be. I intentionally added an orchestral version of the intro song over the openning scene to see how impactful the scene felt with an orchestra over the original synthesizer tune
Billie Eyelash there was me, Alex, and three of my mens. All supposed to meet at the Korova Milk Bar. The Korova Milk Bar couldn’t afford its liquor license so it sold Milk plus Drenchrome... or Synthemesc. That plagued our minds for the evening.
Anybody watch the Apple TV HD stream version? The digits conversion is pretty poor! The picture is so grainy and the black level is way too bright it almost looks grey, especially that iconic opening scene. I’ve compared it in different screens. Same results. I hope Apple or Warner Bros. Corrects this for the 4K version
This is not the music to the movie opening. This is Purcells death match for princess (iirc) Anne, some 250 years prior. The music of the opening of the movie is a different version from the late 60ies.
Yes, that was my purposing in uploading this (orchestra) version. Was to show what the Clockwork Orange opening scene would feel like if the music was changed. Still quite a powerful scene.
