Probably very nervous too. You had to be careful when accelerating. The engines were fragile. Hell, current jet engines are fragile. But I remember one 262 pilot blew up on the runway, because he accelerated too fast, and the blades couldn't take the stress. Maybe it needed stronger steel.
It did not take long before it was determined that the Mustang could run at the same diving speed as the 262 but the jet’s worst problem was it could only stay in the air for 90 minutes while the mustang could stay in the air for as much as 7 hours. Because the 262 used 30mm cannons, they would have to get closer to the bombers than their other fighters with 20mm cannons to attack. Thats what people claimed "UFO" back in the days.
could you imagine being a b-17 pilot, and then hearing a thunder behind just to have a random ass plane go past you at 600 mph
B-17 gunners mentioned that it was almost impossible to shoot those jets down as they were just too fast.
Me262 max speed was more like 540mph, not 600 which is roughly 10% faster than late war prop planes. Sure it was faster, but not by that much
Remember relatively 🤔
We’ve got the video. So imagine what?
Quantos kmh são 600mph ?
"What the hell was that ?"
A problem. It's a problem.
@LæK64. ...what?
Its not a problem, A *catastrophe*
it really wasn't, it's weapons were useless at the speed it HAD to fly at not to mention the unreliable nature of the engines, it was impossible to shoot down but pretty ineffective
It’s an opportunity, an opportunity America was only able to realize after the war.
That problem took less time then iraq
I felt like that pilot couldve had an impressive track record, but it looked like he enjoyed being the fastest man alive in the moment of heartache
not only the sight, but the SOUND. WHen you're used to the hum of propellors and you hear a TURBINE JET ENGINE ROAR. I bet the sound alone caused PTSD in those guys for the rest of their lives.

More like 10 years later
@@htrcs9047 yeah by using a captured or german scientists who run from german after WW2 and perfected the jet engine technology. That is why jet fighters became mainstream decade later.

In a world where dying or getting killed are the only options, fear is an emotion that's got no perdurability. In short time it is easily overcome, because fear becomes, in due time, into sharpness of the mind and acuteness of the senses. Yes, those planes were fast and yet Germans still lost the war, didn't they ? Every strength is at the same time, a weakness ! Only God is invincible !

We're not. There were no voice recorders on board.
Both the audio and video is fake. We only have written accounts.
AI
@@nathanbasset The videos arent fake, there were a lot of cameramen on board of bombers to capture what was going on, during the end of the war every big bomber formation had a camerman for several reasons. Its not a rare case that 262s were engaging bombers, they could climb up faster than any other plane at its time, the only thing even faster at climbing was the 163, but the 163 didnt have the even close to the same endurance.
Let me tell y'all : Being afraid and being surprised are different feelings and I can tell they were surprised af atm.
The mission that made the first plane without a propeller was called projekt1065
That German pilot felt like the most powerful human alive for sure
But not for long
Probably very nervous too. You had to be careful when accelerating. The engines were fragile. Hell, current jet engines are fragile. But I remember one 262 pilot blew up on the runway, because he accelerated too fast, and the blades couldn't take the stress. Maybe it needed stronger steel.
@@kristiansandsmark2048they took out loads more planes in attacks what you on about.
True
@@CaptainHavfun-lp4ok the feel like probably was seeing a plane on drugs.
The German pilot was waiting for this moment his whole life 🗿
It did not take long before it was determined that the Mustang could run at the same diving speed as the 262 but the jet’s worst problem was it could only stay in the air for 90 minutes while the mustang could stay in the air for as much as 7 hours. Because the 262 used 30mm cannons, they would have to get closer to the bombers than their other fighters with 20mm cannons to attack. On many occasions, the mustangs just followed the jets to their airfields and then destroyed them as they were trying to land.
