Patricia McBride (born August 23, 1942 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is a ballerina who spent nearly 30 years dancing with the New York City Ballet. McBride joined the New York City Ballet in 1959. She became a principal in 1961, becoming the company's youngest principal. She danced with the company for 30 years, including roles created for her by choreographers George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. She is celebrating her 80th birthday today, August 23, 2022.
beautiful! great tribute with all her trademark dances and her students at the end. She must be a wonderful teacher, she seems so nice, relaxed, even her critiques delivered so gently. the first solo and last duet were wonderful. I love how Tom Hanks is really enjoying all the other tributes, Patricia did too whenI watched the others for this year. She always had a smile on.
There are 2 Patricia McBrides associated with the NYCB & Balanchine. Patricia McBride Lousada who was best friends with Tanaquil Le Clercq (Balanchine's 5th? wife) and Patricia McBride (who was honoured in the video above). One retired much too early and became a well-known cookbook author and passed away in 2019 and the other one danced for 30 years and had famous roles created for her by famous choreographers like Balanchine and Robbins.
Amanda Musa, Daniela said Misty Copeland is from ABT. And I agree with Daniela. If we are judging strictly by comparing Race, Kenyan born Francesca Hayward, a dancer with the Royal Ballet, is yards better. Shoopdelaang especially nowadays, NYCB only hires dancers directly from SAB. Years ago occasionally an amazing talent would be accepted into the company but went through a period of training in the Balanchine style. Copeland's interpretation may be spot on, in some way, garotadagavea, but it's not carefree and magical. She seems to be struggling with the tempo and it looks a bit forced. I'm sure there are many amazing dancers of all backgrounds but Misty managed to create her "brand" and has enriched herself far beyond what most dancers dream of. Of course, this is a non sequeter and has nothing to do with the incredible Patty McBride. She was so beautiful, occasionally overshadowed by Suzanne Farrell but what a group of dancers! It's great to see the roster of principal females at NYCB today..Peck and Sarah Mearns and Teresa Reichlen and Lauren Lovette.
Danila Sedo and yet, if you watch and compare Ms. McBride's interpretation of this piece right here in CZcams, Ms, Copeland's interpretation is spot on.
peck is definitely better. but, besides that, copeland isn't a new york city ballet ballerina and wasn't trained in the balanchine style, so she will always struggle with his works. there's a reason why NYCB usually hire dancers who studied at their school. i mean, see her hands! those are not the world famous balanchine hands.
To think that Patricia McBride originated all those roles. That is mindblowing. I loved watching her dance.

Hold up- is that Tammy 2 sitting behind Patricia?
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
is the piano music starting at 04:02 from rubies?
No, Rubies is Stravinsky, this is Chopin (Dances at a Gathering)
I could have danced them all off the stage! NOT!!! LOL!
At 7:48 is that Lauren Lovette?
yes
Anyone know the music from 2:18-3:02?
Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings Orchestra" in C major. Gorgeous, isn't it?
Copeland is so overrated. Pales in comparison to Peck. First black american Prima at ABT but not the greatest today
Actually, she is very good.
Francesca Hayward is far better than copeland
Danila Sedo She's not a bad dancer... she's not a Balanchine dancer.

Misty was the best
Kendall Anthony Misty's great, but definitely not the best.
you mean she has the best publicist, right?
Not if you know anything about ballet.
