I’m embarrassed for 3/4 year old me. I liked this movie and actually watched it... let’s just say, more than twice. I can’t believe I’m actually admitting this, but i cried ab the baby alien being sick and being lost from his parents. Dude I watched this movie on repeat as a kid! We owned the VHS for some reason. I had never even seen ET. I thought ET was the ripoff of Mac and Me lmao. And I totally used to get serious emotions watching this as a kid. I remember being SO sad for the little baby missing his family. I never saw this movie, but I'm surprised Jaime didn't mention that one of the awesome things about this movie is the protagonist is in a wheelchair. and the movie didn't treat the character like he was living in a bubble. He was just a normal kid. Ahead of its time.

Praised in this movie: a wheelchair-bound boy as simply one of the characters. No issue (either negative or advocating) made of his disability, treated as just an ordinary family member.
Until, of course, he rolls down a hill without being able to stop. That might be considered a negative.

I just saw this part of the movie as i read your comment, and i fell over laughing because it's all so funny to take in at once... I was actually trying to chew up a chocolate chip cookie and eat it during this event, but I think like a quarter of what was in my mouth now lives in my sinus cavity 😂😭😂
Omg as a kid this was my favourite movie. Somehow I found it less scary than E.T. (That creepy bastard and his growing neck, straight up messed me up) but that being said, it was my intro into loving horror movies. Mac and his parents creeped me the eff out, but I really wanted Mac to find his way back to his parents. There’s one part I couldn’t watch until I was an adult where he’s like on someone’s windshield, that part really got me lol
The nervous chuckle that turned into a "eugh" when Debbie kissed the daddy alien on the mouth got me😂

Man, I had a friend who was obsessed with this film. So many sleepovers in the 80s where she insisted we watch this. Once we hid the VHS and she literally threw a tantrum, that's how much she liked this abomination
I had a friend do this with Titanic, we watched the whole thing and then she literally wanted to watch it again right after and went and cried to her mom when we said we didn’t want to watch it twice in a row. It’s a fine movie but not two time’s in a row back to back, especially for a 7 year old

I first watched this movie when I was 9, I remember this vividly because it was the very FIRST movie ever that I was JUST bawling my eyes out! I remember setting on the couch and just crying as if my brother or sister died and I was the one to find them first, crying that hard!

Rewatching this four years later as my "multitasking entertainment" while I work (from home lol). It's like rewatching a movie - catching things you didn't the first time around, understanding things the person on screen is saying in new/different ways - super fun. This movie wasn't even on my radar the first time I watched your commentary and now I am convinced I *need* to make it a rainy-day-weekend-watch ASAP.
I've never seen it, nor ½ these movies, & but for Jaime, I wouldn't want to. Now, I'm thinking I need to!!!
Those little cups he put out of coke had the fold out handles. I remember feeling so grown up using those cups with "coffee" like an inch of coffee then milk and sugar , at wedding showers and when my mom mom got her perm at the old lady salon
Fun fact: there's a deleted scene where Eric gets shot in the shootout. Him in the explosion scene is actually after he got shot and is dead. However, producers thought it was too violent, so they cut it. Except they didn't refilm anything to explain why he died or put him closer to the explosion. It's a mess.
They kept that ending in the Japanese cut of the film. All the aliens do is just dig three bullet out and the kid comes back to life.

I love how, in some movies, there are certain things that viewers must accept as true, or otherwise the plot of the movie would not make sense. It's like, sure it's ridiculous to see aliens shopping at a convenience store; however, we were already shown that they they just "know" how to read a newspaper & use a drinking straw, too, so of course naturally they'd know how to go shopping. It reminds me of one of the bigger movie screw-ups I've ever noticed, where it seemed like key details were left on the cutting room floor, yet the plot remained unchanged. If anyone's seen "The Goonies" (who hasn't lol), at the end, all the characters are talking about fighting an octupus, yet no such thing occurred in the movie. However, if you watch the "making of" in special features, it shows how they cut an entire huge scene from the movie involving (what would've been) a scary octopus attack. The movie totally made sense w/o the scene, yet they kept the description of it in the movie anyway, which made no sense. It's just as obvious as when the little bag of treasures is poured into someone's hand, yet the hand matches no one else's, & w/long, manicured fingernails. That's how this movie feels - like we're trapped in some movie w/o any rational, developed premise upon which to understand what we're seeing. So, it works best if you just turn off your brain, & refuse to question anything that doesn't make sense. Not the best idea for movie making, but what do I know?
I interviewed one of the actors. The movie lost funding and had to take money from McDonald's and this is why you have a dance break in the middle of the movie.

The lady that plays the mom is Christine Ebersole. She's a big Broadway star and has 2 Tony awards. Obviously after this gem.🤣 She's been in a tonof stuff and was on SNL in the early 80's. I knew I'd seen her before.

OMG I've actually seen a Broadway show with her like 10 years ago! She was with Angela Lansbury and Rupert Everett. She played a dead ex wife. Lol She's fun and never takes herself too seriously, which is good.

I do a lot of admin/data entry at my job. I watched this today - and legit started laughing at the dance scene so much that I cried. And then would randomly burst into fits of laughter thinking of it again throughout the day - not even trying to cover it up - like, zero self control. ( I also laughed this hard at the Coyote Ugly Dance edit as well) I said this in a previous comment somewhere on this channel, I discovered you yesterday and I am soooooo happy I did. It's hard to get a real belly laugh these days - and so far you have delivered beyond!!!!! I love these videos - I get that you have to try to not hurt people's feelings or offend people, but - I think you should have a "Jaime French after hours" channel where you just don't censor anything. Wait, actually, just keep doing exactly what you're doing.
