  • Joe “the Animal” Barboza was famous and feared. The nickname originated after Barboza chewed off a man’s cheek in a fit of rage.

Patriarca wasn't sent to prison for life. He died a free man at his girlfriend's house.

I met Mr. Raymond Patricia at a hotel on the waterfront in 1983. I was 17 years old and was hanging out with my friend Jay Antonille. Jay’s dad was a made man who had died. Jay had 3 or 4 brothers who were street guys, but, because their Mom was Irish they were only associates of the New England family. Although I’d heard of Joe Barboza growing up, I had no idea what he actually did. My Grandma use to talk about him in hushed tones and although he was a second cousin of hers, he wasn’t someone who’s presents I ever made. Interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

Homeboy, do research!! Raymond never did a long stretch in prison. He died in '84 at his girlfriends house, you said Barboza "put him in prison for the rest of his life" not even remotely true

No lol he was called the animal after a fight at a bar in Revere where he was told not to put his hands on another guy so he bit the man.

You really should re-edit this video as your statement about Raymond is defined wrong. Too much false information on CZcams as it is as everyone gets on the Mafia Bandwagon.

While Al Capone was an old school Mafia boss, that fought Presbyterian tyranny over the people's right to party, since about WW2 the others are today called Mafia. The animal got finally screwed by old school Mafiosi that are today part of society and once were Cosa and Kosha Nostra and the Irish Mob. The Cosa Nostra helped the liberating of Sicily on their common "nostra bene cosa", the kosha nostra made sure that ship loads like the St. Louis are cleared, and the Irish Mob always was about re-publican order (re public - back to the people). In fashism they all find their ultimate enemy... #IRA

they pushed the barboza away because he was tough and he was portuguese! the Portuguese who worked with barboza were street dogs, and they didn't need weapons to kill someone! they would appear from the shadows to stab you or beat you to death!! barboza was used by the patriarchs to eliminate competition, because they knew the Portuguese worked well! But all the patriarchs did to get up in the game was treason! they betrayed family by family, and used the Portuguese to get in the game! and when they no longer needed the Portuguese, they eliminated the barboza! In other words, the merit was always Barboza, who did the work for the Patriarchs was Barboza, who defended the Patriacas was Barboza, who got his hands dirty for the Patriarchs was Barboza!
