Tombstone was not historically accurate. In many ways. But they got the jist of things right. The Earp's were no angels. And neither was the Clanton/Cowboy faction. Costner's film is more accurate historically but is also a chore to watch.

According to a friend of mine whose college room-mate at UT was Boothe's girlfriend, Boothe was as cool in reality as he was in the movie role. His classic reply to Kurt Russell's goodbye, "Well..........Bye!" was one of the best stoic line ever. So sad to lose Boothe a few years ago, he was a Texas classic!
