When apathy sets in, it's hard to keep giving Hollywood more chances. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the perfect example of a film that was undermined by it's trailers and marketing. Join us as we dive into the good and the bad of Furiosa.

What did you guys think of Furiosa? Did you even bother seeing it? Did the trailer completely misrepresnt the film or has apathy towards Hollywood finally taken hold?
It's a good movie, well worth seeing on the big screen. Sometimes audiences, and often CZcams commentators, simply get it wrong - and mostly because they have axes to grind and agendas to pursue that have nothing to do with the film at hand. "I know he's a great filmmaker, and I know he's going to make a good movie, but who CARES?". See the problem in terms of trusting you to review this film? Sometimes you don't CARE about good movies. For anyone who was awake, there was no "bait and switch" about who/what the movie was about, so all the fuss about the title, and timing, is largely a red herring to give some people something to complain about. If people who were either too stupid and/or too cheap have killed this franchise, congratulations.
@@Malt454 Do you think we were unfair in our critiques of the film? Despite not caring about the direction this franchise went, our commentary focused on the merits of the film… and we liked it for the most part. We also think all the girl boss harping going on is unfair. There are definitely circumstances that lend to movies succeeding and failing beyond the content of the film. We chose to discuss some of those at the end. They weren’t complaints, just observations about what might be keeping viewers home. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was and said as much.
@@hardcutreviews- I think the ubiquitous pink "cuck" hats say a lot; you're playing to an 80's fan-boy algorithm because it pays the bills and then walk some it back later in the fine print. What you do might keep the lights on and support your "brand", but I can't take you seriously as critics. I'd just advise doing better, although that's probably not in the cards. You asked for my take and I gave it to you.
Thank you so much. We’ll do better for you.
@@hardcutreviewsthis movie is gay😂
It's better to have and to leave a little mystery surrounding a character. There's no need to create an entire film around that character to give audiences an explanation.
Seems like a waste of resources when they could have made a whole new story. Decent film, but completely unnecessary for her character.
@@hardcutreviews if it’s needed, sure. But not willy-nilly.
I would rather have seen a Immortan Joe back story then a Furiosa back story .
Being that we learned nothing about Joe’s back story in Fury Road, that would have been more interesting.
The fact we got this movie at all is a minor miracle. Fury road wasn’t a huge box office success, and yet we get another 150$+ million Mad Max movie that’s badass.
I’m taken aback by how closely we agree and the points each of our videos share. 😁👍
Great minds.
Furiosa's mom looked like Finn Wolfhard.
Lol. Fair.
Did I blink and miss it, or towards the end when Furiosa needs a car, the car is initially dirty and banged up but then like 2 scenes later it's pristine?
I totally agree about how Dementus' character could've been Immortan Joe. We don't see the formation of that anger toward Immortan Joe that, like you said, is there in Fury Road.
I've got to be honest, I really enjoyed the film. I agree with many of your criticisms. Possibly the most annoying thing was the lack of continuity in the color grade. I worked hard to not set any expectations on this film being a prequel, and while I thought there were some pacing issues with the edit, I never found myself bored and fully invested in the character journey. George Miller is an action-set savant.
Can we just give a shout-out to Immortan Joe for the naming of his sons? Scrotus and Erectus are bold name choices for your sons when they are hard to come by in a half-life post-apocalyptic world.
Immortan Joe is the GOAT.
I agree with you guys that a Furiosa prequel was completely unnecessary, especially 9 years later. Supposedly the script for Furiosa was written along side Fury Road and was supposed to be released as an animated movie or graphic novel back in 2015. As far as an Immortan Joe prequel there was already a comic released in 2015 telling the backstory of both Nux and Joe. Because everyone seemed to like Chris Hemsworth's Dementus I wouldn't be surprised if the did a prequel movie for his character even though that would be completely unnecessary as well.
Found you guys last night. Great work! New movies suck!
We’ll definitely remember when ol’ Jack Burton shows up. 👍🏻
Green Space = San Francisco
It's mostly brown now.
I think people (myself included) just don’t want to see this because of how much Charlize Therone cried about Tom Hardy on the set of Fury Road. I mean this should have been a Tom Hardy movie, but CT cried so publicly and assassinated his character, and the studio rewarded that shit. Not interested.
Speaking of the girl power controversy, I appreciated that most of the film was about lore building with the war between Joe and Dementious, George really built the new lore of his modern Mad Max trilogy with this film. Rather than push another tired political message above all else.
I heard the next film might be a mad max prequel about him being a cop like the original 1979 movie again. It's weird that the story is told backwards this time 🙃
It was most def a Chris Hemsworth movie. He was terrific!
Without max I don’t partake 😂
yeh, you can pick at it - but seriously, it kicks ass over so many Hollywood action films of late. I enjoyed this way more than I was expecting, the audio design was so good. I think it sits nicely next to Fury Road.
I loved every second of it. So did my son. It was equal to fury road
totally agree. a decent but unnecessary action flick. not sure if i will watch it again.
Might watch it again for the action but I’m not going out of my way.
I stopped watching any pop culture "commentary" because it's all basically brainrot now ("Woke Hollywood destroying Care Bears!") but these guys are fun to watch as they sound like people I'd know/hang with. It's a top-tier friend simulator.
Appreciate that. We try to save that stuff for the end of the review unless it’s so engrained into the DNA it can’t be ignored.
The movies good. And so is the character. Who can way what story should or shouldn't be told. Prequels are fine if they're good. That's the line to draw if ones to be drawn.
I didn't go see the movie because it does look like some girl boss bs. I also follow politics closely, so at this point, I'm just jaded. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. You guys and others have said that is a pretty decent movie. I might check it out, even though you spoiled it for me lol. Thanks for your honest review.
Haha, that’s the beauty of a prequel. Near impossible to spoil anything. Most of the large story beats are given to you in Fury Road. But we were equally skeptical after that first trailer. Low expectations helped boost our opinion of it.
You make an original idea and take a chance on it you make a spin-off because there's interest there was absolutely no interest in this movie being made ever
I've become very cynical regarding entertainment media. Thus, it is pirate first, spend money when deemed worthy. As with this film, it was deemed worthy. I enjoyed my premium seats and XXL popcorn with my friends in the cinema and we all had a great time.
Glad to hear it. Wish it was getting more theater love.
I thought furiosa was excellent. Easily my favorite movie of the year. I really hope to see more films set in the mad max universe, whether he has a large part in them or not.
We’ll see if they let him do another one after the box office performance. They keep giving Snyder bottomless budgets so there is hope.
Overall I was surprised by this movie - thought it was great overall. The one thing you have to remember - Hollywood is trying to create 'worlds' - look at the John Wick movies - the have made a tv series out of it - they have made so many 'side characters' have their own story. I feel like this is lazy of Hollywood -but overall this is why this film was made if you ask me - but again - would recommend it for sure.
Diddnt go to see this one. Thought id wait till your review came out 😂 might give it a go now haha. Great video once again
I don't Know if it helps that i'm not a fan of the mad max saga, but i liked a lot Furiosa.
Similar to what you guys says at the beggining, i liked Fury Rosd, but personally i didn't care for what was coming. It's not that type of saga where it's a big story. Looks more like independent adventures, so whatever they bring me, as long as is good, for me was okey. In this case i really liked the story. I was very invested so it worked very well. It has its issues, as the pacing. Some elipsis were very abrupt and Hemsworth caracther wasnt so interesting i think, but in general i really root for Furiosa and his Journey. I loved the construction of the world around her and definitely i want more movies of this universe, even if its max on them or not.
That my opinion. It doesn't affect me like it would affect for example that in middle of the original Star Wars trilogy you made a prequel about Boba fett or Yoda. That would not work, because we are following a story. Same with Lord of the Rings, but not the case with Mad Max.
Furiosa - 7.5/10
It’s a prequel to a sequel. I might watch this movie at some point, but I wish they’d given us something fresh. I really liked Fury Road, but Furiosa is just not a character I’m interested in.
She was great in Fury Road. Wasn’t much else to explore with her. If they wanted to keep her, could have had her pop up in the follow up. The movie was still decent though.
Haven’t bothered seeing it. Gotta be honest, I gave Fury Road about 15mins and checked out. Never finished it.
Should I give it another shot?
Fury Road is definitely a wacky movie but the pace never slows down. Some solid action pieces but we can see how the style might turn some people off. We both love Fury Road.
Fury Road is a lot of fun. It’s one of the few movies I’ve watched twice in a row.
I disagree with the take prequels are pointless because you know what’s going to happen. If you want story read a novel. I watch movies for every thing around the story. The music the visuals the acting and everything else. A good story is important also but it’s not the only important thing. And personally I like Furiosa as a character and watching mad max style chase scenes are cool regardless of what the story is about.
Our dislike for prequels is definitely a personal preference but we see where you’re coming from. We come from the movie school of thought that story and writing are paramount to everything. A lot can be excused if your story is solid. Prequels tend to compromise story. Ultimately we thought this was one of the strongest prequels we’ve ever seen and a lot of that was because the story was solid. But there are definitely films we throw on because they are just fun and you can pay attention a little less to the story. Appreciate the comment.
What happen to BarderTown with the pig shit methane and the crack in the earth oasis
I didn't watch this movie because the trailer tricked me into thinking this was another gender swap girl boss movie. Probably might watch it with the wife, if I ever get bored watching the back catalog of old good movies.
Movie was a 9 out of 10
If there are any gamers in here the Nad Max game is amazing even 9 years after release and my of the areas an locations of this movie are in the game. It’s from WB and pretty much has the same combat mechanics as the Batman Arkham games. Well worth a blast. 🤘
The game is fantastic. It was great getting a Chumbucket cameo in the film.
@@hardcutreviews Awesome. Too good man. Great video btw, agreed on all points.
Holy shit “Mel Gibson hate Jews”🤣 (you went there) And I hear this movie WAS good, but no one cares about “girl boss” side character. I grew up on and LOVE Max, but no interest in this film. Did they use practical stunts again? Trailer looked heavy on CG…. Oh you just answered in the video. Ty
Definitely should have just been a Max movie. Nobody was jonesing for more Furiosa.

A complete montage of the saga is what I would like to see. From beginning to end. From MM1 through to furry road. Starting in Australia. As we all know Australia won't exist in the future
Saw it on opening day with friends and I didn’t care for it. Best parts were Hemsworth and Jack. The rest: eh.
I'm one of the dozen people in the world who hated fury road, piece of garbage so I wouldn't waste my time with this one.
But these 2 guys... are simply amazing. I love the way they speak and I would watch them 24/7. Please never stop posting
Say something critical of them and see how long you last; they're cowards to the core.
Can you really Spoil a Prequel?
Fair point.
I like fury road but I personally don’t really care for this film, and I actually don’t mind prequels if they’re done well. Yakuza 0 is one of my favorite prequel stories ever and I won’t lie in saying that as a writer myself, I do want to make prequels (without going overboard of course) for my stories as well since I love world building
Its a mid movie... the story is pretty crap...
Right at the start the group of guys find the green place...
why do they need to kidnap furiosa?? They then beeline straight home so how do they not know the way back?
If they know exactly the way home then they surely know how to go back to the green place?? But guess we not supposed to think too much about it...
How does immortan joe find furiosa worth making a truce over then the next day shes dissapeared and he just never asks: hey wheres that girl i made a truce with dementis for gone 🤷♂️
Furiosa is leaning on a bike that is directly hit by an rpg and shes unscathed?
Furiosa can ride a bike one handed better than men who ride everyday??
Furiosa has a sniper scope and put her eye right upto the scope.. it would punch her in the face.
Chris hemsworth monologue near the end was the only good acting...
A 3 motorbike chariot was cool.
Too many shots of furiosa just looking at shit... 👁👁

All fair points. That sniper rifle up to the eye bugged us too.
Too me , this movie is basically the same sxxt show like:the thing......too mutch CGI🤷🤔🤦
I head many Flash backs from the "Mad Max Game"🤷
There were a few characters from the game that appeared in Furiosa, which was pretty cool. The FX in The Thing prequel were practical but in classic studio fashion, they came in an CGI’d all over the good FX.
@@hardcutreviews it was interesting...storry wise....... but I head the Bad feeling off too mutch CGI.....up too the point we're I was wishing:.... there's no New Mad Max 😔
By the way...... Max safet Furiosa...
Also thax 4 your answer 👍🖖
Totally unneeded back story that adds nothing.
I was fooled by Fury Road. I thought it was simply a great action flick. That was until I re-watched it years later, and realized it was a straight up feminist social messaging movie.
It looks great, and all the action did a fantastic job of covering up all the subverted messaging, but yeah...yet another straight up feminist bait and switch movie.
It's just another girl boss movie that by now most of us are sick of with. Using the prequel trope as an excuse to put Ana Taylor Joy the greatest new rising girl star in Hollywood. But people don't buy it any more.
The stories we all had in our minds about the Star Wars prequels were all better than what we got on screen. The Jedi went from Knights to boring and bored looking four monks.
Bring back Mel Gibson
Guaranteed box office results.
@hardcutreviews Yeah he's Box Office gold these days 😂.
Whatcha guys talkin about? This movie was incredible! Why even compare? Most Mad Max movies were stand alone and no one asked for them and this is no different. It’s not what you wanted but no one asked. It’s a complimentary film to Fury that Miller wanted to do. And it’s incredible. Why can’t you just enjoy it for what it is, I don’t get it
We did enjoy it. We even said it was one of the best prequels we’ve ever seen. Did you skip that part? But it’s not perfect. Nothing is perfect. And since it’s a direct sequel to Fury Road, we can compare it. None of the other old films were connected to each other the way this film is to Fury Road.
I really did enjoy Furiousa but I really wish they had used Dementus as a villain against Mad Max. Especially since he was basically the anti Max. He had a similar back story with his family being killed by some waste land bullshit, but he went evil instead of just mad. He’d have been like the perfect Mad Max joker. That was my biggest issue. Think it would have worked better with Max.
Yeah that would have been great.
Maybe George Miller should have released Furiosa first, then no one would be complaining about it being a prequel, considering he wrote the story for Furiosa before Fury Road... He has the story for Wasteland ready as well, but according to all these complainers, we probably shouldn't have that movie either haha. This is why we can't have nice things...
He should have made Wasteland then. Instead he’s sitting on a prequel that will end up losing money because no one cares about a Mad Max movie without Max.
@@hardcutreviews Yes, true, but Fury Road wasn't entirely about Mad Max now was it. I guess people only care about Mad Max and not other characters and stories within the universe. It's unfortunate because the movie was great, the stunt work and some of the cinematography was a treat. I was just happy to have another movie within that universe done by George Miller, especially knowing we might not get another, and with the legal battles we're lucky this film even happened honestly, hence why it took so long to get made..
@CaliBoyinJapan Max definitely took a backseat in Fury Road, which we discuss. It also allows other characters to shine that are great, which we also discussed. We also liked this movie and have no problem with side characters, lol. We tell people to go see it in theaters at the end of the review. We gave it props where it succeeded and pointed out flaws that we thought detracted. Ultimately we are happy another movie exists in this world, even if we think they should have made it 7 years ago. Unfortunately, by choosing to do a story about a secondary character in the Max world as a prequel, this may be our last wasteland movie due to poor box office numbers. It comes down to math and the movie industry is a business that just can’t get out of its own way. If Wasteland had come out with Max and Furiosa in it as a character, this movie would have performed better.
@@hardcutreviews 100% agree. Good review you two btw. Movie was an amazing IMAX experience. It is too bad they didn't make Wasteland instead of this, but still happy to have something I guess.
Another feminism on steroids BS flick.
Hollywood? This is written and directed by an Australian, filmed in Austraila and uses George's own Australian production team and partially funded by the Australian Government. Did 99% of the accents not give it away? Lol
Hollywood is a catch-all term for the movie industry in this case. The average movie goer doesn’t make the distinction whether a film is made by an Australian team or an American team. They see a movie in a movie theater with wide release status and think of the movie industry writ large. It’s a general feeling among movie audiences that we are referencing. The film was also released by Warner Bros., a Hollywood powerhouse distributor. Thanks for the comment.

That's the stupidest reason not to like prequels. The same argument would make rewatching a movie or rereading a book pointless. Also the whole consept of "stakes" is idiotic. There are no stakes, it's a story, it will go exactly like the writer wants at any given point.
Not the same argument at all, but, sure pal.
@@hardcutreviews How is it not the same argument? If your argument against prequels is "you know what's going to happen" how is that different from rewatching a movie?
@@Draugo Have you never sat down to watch a movie with the anticipation of not knowing what's going to happen? Or do you read the entire plot of a film online before you see it for the first time? You rewatch something because it's great, not to relive the surprise of witnessing the story for the first time.
@@hardcutreviews Sure, but it's not the only interesting thing about movies and books or otherwise I wouldn't ever rewatch or reread a story. If all I cared for was the mystery of the ending then most stories wouldn't really be interesting at all because most endings you can predict in general lines at least even before the movie starts.
@@Draugo That’s fair. We rewatch things for all kinds of reasons. It happens all to often where a story is poorly written and I can guess the ending immediately, but the movie is still fun as hell.
Dementus could have been the Mad Max villain in the Fury Road sequel. That's the true tragedy of this film, it's a complete waste of a story, only told because "girlboss" reasons.
Dementus could have rolled up on a Citadel now controlled by Furiosa. But she doesn’t have the same control over the War Boys, so Dementus takes over. Sounds like a solid start to a sequel.
@@hardcutreviews Exactly, and they even could have still played on the "he killed my mother" line, giving Furiosa and Max more reasons to take Dementus out as he takes over Gastown and Bullet Farm after the power vacuum created in Fury Road.
