If you're heading to Pamplona, Spain to take part in the running of the bulls, bone up on these racing tips.
Warning
Participating in the running of the bulls can lead to serious injury or death.
Step 1: Know what it is
Get the background. The running of the bulls is a half-mile race through the streets of Pamplona, Spain to the town's bullring, featuring the 6 bulls who'll be fighting that evening, and anyone who dares to run with them. Runs take place every morning during the annual 8-day festival honoring San Fermin, the town's patron saint. The festival runs from July 7 through July 14 every year, and anyone over 18 may participate.
Step 2: Respect your competition
Understand what you're up against: 6 1-ton bulls that can outrun most humans, and 8 oxen that herd them along. Different breeds run on different days; some are considered more dangerous than others.
Tip
The website "sanfermin.com":sanfermin.com/ lists which breeds are running each day and information about the history of injuries during the running of the bulls.
Step 3: Be prepared
Get a good night's sleep the night before and stay sober; otherwise you'll be a danger to yourself and others. Wear comfortable clothes and running shoes, and don't carry anything. Don't run with friends; they might distract you.
Step 4: Pick your position
Enter the Plaza Consistorial before 7:30 a.m. via the gates on the square. When the police barriers open to the bull run route, go to any spot you like to await the bulls.
Tip
The Santo Domingo and callejon sections of the route are considered the most dangerous, as most fatalities have occurred there.
Step 5: Listen for the rockets
Listen for the sound of the rockets. The first one indicates that the gate to the corral is being opened; the second alerts runners that all the bulls are out of the pen and on their way. In other words, it's time to start running!
Step 6: If you fall, stay down
If you fall, stay down, cover your head, and remain still. If you remain on the ground, the bulls are likelier to just run by or over you. If you attempt to get up, they may try to gore you. Beware of pile-ups around turns.
Tip
Bulls are most dangerous when they separate from the herd, either by running in front or lagging behind.
Step 7: Fan out
If you make it to the bullring without getting gored or trampled, fan out to its edges as soon as you're inside -- running to the middle of the ring is like putting a bull's-eye on your back.

The running of the bulls, called el encierro in Spanish, has been going on informally since the Middle Ages, but was regulated in 1867.

For Firmin's Sake! I broke just about every rule, but I thought everybody did. We stayed up the whole night till 8 AM rockets; we drank the whole time; we ran as friends fully distracted; we planted ourselves in the high fatality zones; and, we were caught off guard by a separated bull. But we did avoid the pile ups around turns because a vet of the run warned us about that. The thing to do, after the run, is to have coffee with chumerras at Cafe Iruna, following Hemmingway's custom.

I have lived in Pamplona for more than 7 years and I have witnessed to too many deaths and too many serious injuries in this "age old" tradition. The number one rule about running with the bulls is NUMBER ONE - if you are a foreigner like me, NEVER RUN WITH THE BULLS - you are a danger to yourself and anyone else running with the bulls because you need SPECIAL TRAINING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR before participating. End of story.... hope I saved some pretty meaningful lives with this post!

The best thing to do whether you are a foreigner or a local is to just stand there and let the bull do his thing. That way you can be some great social media entertainment.
The bulls prefer to gore the foreigners.

@L0ve4Cookies haha! Fair enough, my little sis did that once except she put loads of troll comments on loads of these music videos, like with Lady Gaga! So I got loads of really scary threats on my emails, and the worst part was that they stayed on top comments for ages, so I deleted my old email account so I could sleep in peace without being worried of a bunch of creeps coming to my house!lol! I love Lady gaga, just some people take it to far! Anyways, apology accepted! :)

Im scared a little baby goat running to me matter of fact im scared of goose running at me and you expect me to run around with a 2 ton weighed huge bulls, it would be fun putting your self in a risk to the point where you have to run reall fast and dodge tho.

Someone is gored every year! It is not a feat for the elderly. In the Azores we have something similar but the bulls are teathered by ropes and the horns are capped with leather straps.

@Lolzagirl Thank you so much. Both my little brother and older one get on and mess around. Once, my little brother was going to all my friends and subscriptions and DELETED THEM! I was so mad and I was getting so much threats saying things like I subscribed to you so subscribed back. One person even made a video saying things he hated. He said he hated people that say they'll sub if you sub. HE said my name! Everyone was thumbing me down on every comment they saw me post.
