  • I first tracked this cub two weeks ago, in this video I finally caught up with it to ensure it couldn't do any more damage.

    Glad you are back Sam.
The first shot, looked a little flat with not a lot of back stop?
Have you tried a mono shooting stick, I use one often. Very handy for standing shots and the shorter ranges.
I read on one of the comments. That you are looking to get the 17HMR.
It is my general walking about Rifle.
I always carry two mags, a 10 round for small game loaded with the 17gr ballistic tip.
Also a 5 round loaded with the 20gr soft point for the odd fox that pops its head up.
If night shooting I recommend the PARD 007 NV. Fits at the back of the scope and i have taken many Foxes out to 150yds with that set up.
I think the 17HMR fits nicely between the .22lr and the larger .223 or .243, if you are shooting at shorter ranges.
Yes split brass and loose bullets can happen, But i found less problems with the Hornady in 17gr, and the CCI in 20gr. Keep away from the Winchester and Federal as they are junk. My Rifle is the CZ455 heavy barrel, and it is a tack driver at 100yds.
Hope you post more vids soon, and how's Tom?

    Not seeing a backstop there

A O agreed, a line of trees shouldn’t be considered a backstop let alone a suitable backstop.

Sam I was left curious after seeing on your Instagram that you’ve applied for a 17hmr after what you’ve said in previous videos about them being “crap” how come the sudden change of heart?

Well yes the cartridge does have a reputation for splitting etc. But I only need one shot and the 17 gives me a rifle suitable for rabbits AND foxes. You have no idea how often I come across foxes with the .22lr or rabbits with the .243.

I still would of gone for a 22wmr as that 17hmr is a supersonic cartridge so it’s a lot louder even with a moderator plus it’s a lot more expensive

What I’m confused about and maybe you can correct me, is how some ranges can only have a certain amount of guest days a year (and I don’t see why they can only have a certain amount?) and then some seem to have loads (like that tunnel range in Dorset?)
They were letting people shoot .50cals and such and I remember getting told only certificate holders could shoot them?
Then what I dont get is why you ah e to shoot your firearms at least 3 times a year? (Or is that not a legal requirement? Some say yes and some say no.)
Any help much appreciated, and could you show me were you get your info?
And another question is I have a friend who was all for trying out shooting now he’s not bothered, because he’s changed and not bothered about doing only wants to do things he likes (but how would he know he’s liked them without trying.)
And only wanting to other things he’s interested in.
I just feel he’s not being fair about it all.
    And advice?

Well Sam we could use a video on the ongoing Driven Grouse Shooting situation. Chris Packham has piped up again with his next banning scheme, and Labour have called for a Government Review.
