- How to replace front drive axles. This was done on a 2004 Accord (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), but will be similar to other generations of the Accord and other vehicles as well.

Finally! A demonstration on getting this job done without removing the entire suspension assembly just to get to the CV joint
Unless its bent you don't have to undo the y joint either, it just slides through the hole with a little wiggle, snug slide through the hole but won't hurt anything
Only things i had to take off on a crosstour, which is basically an 8th gen v6, is the upper ball joint, tie rod, and strut fork

You did a good job on this video. So many people will be about nothing for 10 minutes before they get to the job. You were right to it. Even fast fwd'd the tedious parts. Unfortunately I'm doing a newer model with a center support bearing in it. So the procedure, though similar, is a bit more complicated.

Thanks for the video, it was surprisingly very easy with your help. Second side took me 15 minutes flat. I went OEM replacements and for whatever reason on a 2004 manual transmission, very pricey parts.

Thanksl - one thing though - make sure that the C-clip is tight in the groove. Otherwise it will be hard or impossible to get the shaft in the trans.

DOH! Didn't On Hubcap...if I had a dollar for every time I put the lug nuts on without a hubcap on my 05 Accord I would have 8 or 9 bucks...first $3 lug nuts torqued and off the jack...comforting to know I am not a lonely idiot. REALLY really good post.

This is the best axel replacement video. All others i saw were removing the whole Fcking suspension just to do the same job as u did. Smh. Glad i watched your video 🤘🏼. is it ok to tighten all joints (wherever your car has ribber bushings) while the car is "in the air"? i've heard that to tighten them up the car has to be with the wheel on it and standing on ground. not sure if i use right terminology.
and does it worth to replace only inner cv joint on each axle instead of replacing the whole axle if the problem is vibration when accelerating? money wise...
i am asking because i have such problem but i can't determine on which side that cv joint is bad and i don't want to buy two axles.

Quick list of tools/ parts I need. If I understand correctly, if my cv joints are bad I have to get an entire new axle. The work looks totally doable by myself and my nephew, I just hope my car isn’t so misaligned that I come across any issues you didnt
Hi, is front right side axles longer than left one ? I need to replace the one on left, but the part o got looks longer and had rubber ring on metal pipe, but the one in car doesn't. Also, **is there any way to replace it without loosing control arm nut because the nut keep spinning with ball joint thread. thanks

Please help me, my accord 2006 A/T the left front tire fell apart from the upper ball joint, now it’s really hard to move the knuckle in order to align it with the ball joint, I can feel the axle is shot inside, when i go through gears it feels like the transmission is kicking and the axle moved itself forward, that’s why is really hard to align the knuckle with the upper ball joint. could be this the transmission or axle? Thank you

Great video! Did it help with vibrations? Neithery your old or new axle has the weight in the middle. (Btw, you have to tap the axle with a rubber mallet to get it in.)

I have been having a problem with shifting from park to drive or reverse and each time with a harsh clicking sound. I have check the transmission fluid (and it is full) the transmission mounts and engine mounts (and they are ok). I checked the undercarriage and the axle boots are fine but the passenger axle seems to have some play and clicking when I tugged on it. Can it be the ballbearings of the axle where it meets the transmission? Any idea anyone?

How did you push the new axle so easily. Mine locked into the place but there’s still enough space that I can put in a pry bar without any trouble. Like it’s not metal to metal. My ideas? I tapped with rubber mullet and stuff but not going in any further. Thanks for any help
Try pulling it out and turning it a little. Grab it from the end and pop it in. If it still doesn't go try turning again and repeat. You can also check the round metal clip the holds it and make sure it isn't damaged.

I noticed you didn't drain the transmission. Does the gear oil have to be drained on a manual transmission to do the passenger side? I hope not. You made the job look easy.

I did not have to drain it on this one but I don't know if you will have to or not on a manual. I would just put a pan under where the axle comes out of the transmission just in case. If some does come out just be sure to add fluid to bring it up to the proper level.

is this the same as a cv joint
Hondas are easy to do, Toyotas and their mid bearings..i haven't seen one that comes out smoothly, i always end up taking a torch to it and banging it out. Nice vid, i'm doing the exact same car tomorrow and i just wanted a refresher.
Yeah Honda's are easy. Haven't messed with many Toyota's yet.
Should the axle nut be fully tightened before the car is lowered back to the ground?
Just got a used Honda Accord a few months ago. I don’t know why I didn’t think of the cv axles. But I would hear a clicking noise when the car would get hit back in the summer months. Also when people would ride in the car (?). Now that it’s cooler outside it stopped until today. It rained so I am thinking water hot in the boot causing it to click when I turn left. So I inspected that wheel and I saw grease everywhere. Underneath. But on my old 98 Honda I changed the cv axles out on both sides. But I should’ve thought of that when it only clicked on one side.
thurm101 should I just replace the entire front axle? Think it’s mostly my left side but if it’s easier and more permanent I should do the whole thing?
I think it important to note where you purchased the axle unless you went OEM? So many china axles that don't fit in many reviews...so what's a good aftermarket brand? Thanks for the Vid
What cv axles brand did you use? Any vibration after replacing them?
I’m about to spend the 500 on both sides for the OEM parts.. I had both sides replaced 20,000 miles ago and now at 55mph and above I’m getting floor vibration and steering wheel vibrations. Wheels are balanced and alignment is straight.. I don’t feel the $120 ones are worth it
I'm getting ready to do both axles on my 2007 this weekend. Was this car you did in the video an automatic or manual transmission? If it was an automatic, did you have to drain the transmission fluid before removing it? The Honda shop manual says to drain it before starting. Just wondering if you had to or not. Thanks in advance for your help....the video is very helpful.

From mechanic’s descriptions I’ve heard, yes.
Would this solve the infamous Honda clicking or popping noise that happens whenever you turn the wheel and drive? I got a 2013 accord sport that is already showing signs of this issue.
That definitely could be the problem. I would get under it and check the boot around the joint on the axle to see if it is torn. You may also notice a vibration when accelerating if they are bad.
MightyMechanic thanks for the video man, so once the boot is efed up is better change the entire axle?? I saw couple vids of guys replacing only the boot, but IDK if that's a good idea, what do you think about it???
how did you know you needed 2 front axes? My 2003 v6 accord will shift into park and reverse but won't engage/move. Do you think it's an axle problem?
Richard McKrell that is a transmission issue. Axles don’t control the movement that’s your transmission’s job.

Hi guys, I need guidance! I got stuck on installing the new axle… it went inside the transmission but not all the way. I tried prying it out but it stuck!! I think the half circle pin is causing this… please help! 😢
I havent seen anyone else leave the tire on but i guess thats really only necessary if youre using a breaker bar on the axle nut cause impacts wont make the wheels spin

What if I do Not have a torque wrench, how can I know it’s on there properly ?
Just tighten the axle nut down the best you can. And same for the lugs nuts, just they don't need as much torque.
I’m having helluva time getting the lower ball joint aligned with the hole. Tried using the jack to raise the rotor but lower ball joint is still too far from the hole.

I wanted to see how far the right axle goes into the Jack shaft, the other shaft held by a bracket on the passenger side
When I turn to the left there is a squealing noise that I hear, when I turn to the right I do not hear it. Is this the CV axle? 2013 Honda Accord EXL 4 cyl.

No, I used a set from my local parts store.
A good used Honda part from a reputable local parts shop is better and maybe cheaper than a new non-Honda part. Most of the time.
I'm not saying dont use aftermarket, but sometimes they are not perfect.

I always got through 1A 𝐀uto, best aftermarket parts and prices on the internet. Got a set of 4 rotors with brakes for front and back for 120$ and oriellys was charging me 120 for just two front rotors. And they deliver really fast

It is an axle, a (c)onstant (v)elocity axle. If your front end is clicking during turns there is no way around it.
I keep doing this on my driver side axle bc it comes out about 1/4 inch and leaks fluid is there something special I’m forgetting to do?
You need to replace the bearing that the CV axle goes into. That's why its leaking

The bolts you have to remove are either 14 or 17 mm.

Adam Major It is still not the same. I worked on my car and considering the original axle had an additional boot and link plus it took a gear puller to loosen the ball joint. Also the axle was not loosened by tapping the axle, I had to use a pipe and 1" ratchet.
T wagner Hate to break it to you bud, but I have the exact same car and it’s the exact same method. This is for the 4 cylinder auto, so if your drivetrain is different, that’s why.
If yours is not going in you can use a rubber mallet to tap it to the 1/8 inch he's talking about.

If you have a helper, you can just have them apply the brakes when you loosens the axle nut - especially easy with a power toque wrench. It saves you the time of having to lift and lower the car. That way, you can just jack it up and put it on jack stands.
You did not show the entire process or you got lucky. My video explains it all and the struggles that go w/ it. The large nut would not come off w/ a breaker and pipe. I had to get a 1" ratchet and another pipe to break it loose. The sway bar, had to be removed and required extreme strength to loosen. The lower ball joint does not come loose by tapping it, it only came off w/ a puller.
I was just thinking that this looked way too easy lol. I've always told myself that if I ever buy a new car I'll go under it and remove, clean, lube/threadlock all the underside bolts every few months. Every time I do a simple repair like this on one of my 20 year old cars it takes a month, many bloody knuckles, stripped nuts, and every other form of bad luck imaginable.
I agree with you Melvyn. The new axle had to be tapped in. He lied when he said it would just slip in.
First off, I used an impact to remove the large nut. The rest I was able to remove with no issues. And yes, the ball joint did in fact come loose when I hit it with the hammer. My axle popped right in without hitting it with a hammer. I was able to use my own strength to pop it in. I guess I'm just a strong guy :D
Haha no disrespect bro I'm complaining about my own stupid rusty ford ranger... Came here bc my buddy needed this job done on his accord and we discussed doing it together but based on my years of snapping heads of bolts with breaker bars, impact sockets, etc. we decided it was best for the shop to do it in case it turned out to be a disaster. .. a little jealous of how well maintained your car is and how effortless you make this look.
