- In today's video, I try a selection of dresses from John Lewis and Matalan, showing different looks, how to dress up an 'ordinary' dress to make it wedding worthy, without breaking the bank.

Hi Helen, How wonderful you had a week away with your family...it is so good to hear you didn't video it and just enjoyed, I feel bad that you had to explain. I've noticed on most of my youtube channels I watch, I can see they get burned out with having to explain or feel they need to video everything....no you don't...in my humble opinion. Have to say that every time I see you in this feathered wide brim hat thumbnail as I search your videos, I love it! I do hope that you wear this hat again soon! It is just SO glam and fun, and will hopefully give those around you some reflected glam as well! Well done! In the States we ladies/women do not utilize hats nearly enough, imo. Love you girls do with millinery across the pond!!! 👏 👏 👏

Hi Helen, so many strings to your bow, this blog was fab - it really showed viewers how to put things together to look glam. I have to say personally I wouldn’t bother with the headband. I like the way you show dresses, shoes hats etc that are cost effective. The more I watch you the more I like you, really look forward to your videos - you could definitely take over Holly Willaboobies chair.

Loved this video Helen. Thank you. Particularly liked the green dress and the orange one. Must mention, when you were planning your cruise outfits you showed a peach coloured chevron striped “ kaftan “ dress from the Next Clearance. I managed to get one and wore it on my recent holiday. I received so many compliments. I’d never have chosen it myself but seeing it on you totally inspired me. Big thank you.

Really smiled with your final hat. Back in the day I used to go late night shopping to British Home Stores in Oxford St just to try on the hats. My head was too big for most of them and they never suited me. My friend always looked fabulous in them all - even the most ridiculous ones! Thanks for reminding me 👍

Lovely dresses, over the years I’ve bought dresses for weddings and never worn them again. Now I choose something I will wear again( not too wedding only looking) I dress them up with a bag and head wear and shoes too. Love the Matalan dresses on you. Definitely could wear your BHS hat to Ascot! X

Hi Helen. So pleased your voice is getting back to normal. I loved the off the shoulder black and white dress- you looked lovely in it. Also, the orange dress was great.I think today’s video has shown that you can really dress up a simple dress and make it look elegant and wedding appropriate by adding a few accessories. It’s crazy the amount folk spend on a wedding outfit which may never be worn again. Personally, I’m a great believer in second hand or nearly new. I actually rented my bridal gown and have never regretted it! Great video! 💖🌸

Great fun video .. Matalan have certainly upped their game this year. I know Julia’s House well .. my sister lives in Poole and we quite often visit her. It was the charity we donated to when my brother in law sadly died earlier this year. The charity shop is definitely worth a visit. ❤

I dont have any special occasions to attend but it was really good to see how you can style up a inexpensive dress with accessories. I would usually go into a panic and think that I can't afford to go unless I spent alot of money on a dress that I probably wouldn't wear again so thankyou! 😊

Get you strutting your stuff on the catwalk today . You looked the part for sure and You made lots of sense. I totally agree about the fascinators being on your part . It’s a pet hate of mine 🤪 I actually thought the black white Matalan dress looked fab , my sister is mother of bride in September and she’s paranoid about it , but hasn’t tru d anything on . Late as my comment is regarding the party dress, I preferred the black dress with the pearls, understated, but chique! Totally LOVE your headpiece for your daughter’s wedding. Lovely dresses, but the last green one IMHO looked great - the colors, the cut- all made for a beautiful shape on you. I always feel the best part of going to a wedding is the prep and choosing an outfit. I was at a wedding at the weekend an a lady had the most amazing gold sparkly dress on. It was stunning and in the church lights it was fabulous.

Tights tip. If you’re wearing tights, especially sheer ones this Summer then put them on wearing a pair of cotton gloves (usually around a pound from shops in section selling hand cream treatments). You are less likely to get a hole. I’ve been using them for 35+ years following the tip from a French friend.

Helen where were you 2 weeks ago before I went to Buckingham Palace for a garden party! My head is all wrong for hats (I have a very deep crown) and I spent the afternoon trying to keep my wretched head gear perched on top. Fascinator look ridiculous but I was at a loss what to do! Unlike me, you have a way with outfits that simply makes them work! I do love that cheerful green flowered dress with the black background as it seems like the perfect summer vibe. You are much more formal for weddings in the UK than we are here in Canada and while it certainly is acceptable to wear a hat or headpiece, I can't recall ever seeing one or wearing one to a church. Great job on this video and I am glad you are slowly recovering.

I love a big hat for a wedding! It's the only time you get to splash out on one 😊. For my middle daughter's I had a classic plain navy dress... no embellishments at all, but my hatinator was massive in navy and ivory and I loved it and got loads of compliments.

Great haul Helen - I love hats I just think that it takes your outfit up to another level I had such a varied collection - if any family or friends had a wedding or occasion to attend & they needed a hat they would pop round & see if any of my mine would be appropriate - love the Matalan dresses for the price they are brilliant

I am so impressed that you can find so many attractive dresses that cover the upper arms and have such lovely lines. It makes me wonder why we don’t see similar styles in the US. Love the black and white hat - fortunately (I've got a very small head), people don't wear hats to weddings much around here. I quite like the fascinators, but I would never wear one! I Loved both of the green dresses. Glad you're beginning to feel better - the holiday probably helped!

I have very curly hair and hats can fight with it so I like the flat decorated hair bands, which I had never considered before. I loved the off the shoulder Matalan dress and I loved the green dress that you weren’t keen on.
