From Wikipedia:
Interstate 45 (I-45[a]) is a major Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of Texas. While most Interstate routes which have numbers ending in "5" are cross-country north-south routes, I-45 is comparatively short, with the entire route located in Texas. Additionally, it has the shortest length of all the interstates that end in a "5." It connects the cities of Dallas and Houston, continuing southeast from Houston to Galveston over the Galveston Causeway to the Gulf of Mexico.
I-45 replaced U.S. Highway 75 (US 75) over its entire length, although portions of US 75 remained parallel to I-45 until its elimination south of Downtown Dallas in 1987. At the south end of I-45, State Highway 87 (SH 87, formerly part of US 75) continues into downtown Galveston. The north end is at I-30 in Downtown Dallas, where US 75 used the Good-Latimer Expressway. A short continuation, known by traffic reporters as the I-45 overhead,[3] signed as part of US 75, and officially I-345, continues north to the merge with the current end of US 75. Traffic can use State Highway Spur 366 (Spur 366, better known locally as the Woodall Rodgers Freeway) to connect to I-35E at the north end of I-345.
The portion of I-45 between downtown Houston and Galveston is known to Houston residents as the Gulf Freeway. The short elevated section of I-45, which forms the southern boundary of downtown Houston, is known as the Pierce Elevated after the surface street next to which the freeway runs, while north of I-10 it is known as the North Freeway. I-45 and I-345 in the Dallas area, north of the interchanges with I-20 and SH 310 (old US 75), is the Julius Schepps Freeway. The Gulf Freeway and North Freeway both include reversible high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes for busses and other high-occupancy vehicles to and from downtown Houston.
The freeway is the subject of ongoing controversy and federal investigation due to a proposed expansion project in Harris County, which would displace hundreds of people from their homes and worsen air quality.[4] The local authorities have opposed the expansion project, while the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) supports expansion, and negotiations are pending.[5][6] The project's estimated cost is at least $9.7 billion and is expected to take at least two decades to complete.

Yes, it's one of my favorites!
Nice ride along interstate 45 north from my favorite city in Texas to Dallas TX
I been to Dallas and it's a 5 hour drive from my hometown of Beaumont TX
This got a thumbs up saving this thank you felt so real like if I was with you in the car…. Awesome ❤❤❤❤❤
Two of my favorite cities 🌆❤
GREAT video from you, Mike! It was even relaxing to where I fell asleep 😂
Well in that case it did it’s job haha.
@@MileageMikeTravels Haha, yea, but then I finished the rest of the video after I woke up. Thanks for the sleep!
😃😃😃Houston to Dallas!
3:20:13 - At the end of I45N at the interchange with I30, the route actually changes to an unsigned I345. I345 runs about 1.5miles before it ends and ties with US75 at Spur366. As the route is currently unsigned and very short, its completely understandable that it is missed. Discussions have been held to decommission it from the Interstate Highway System.
Another excellent video 🙂
It reminds me of driving from stockton to Sacramento
I love the old style Texas rural Interstates.
Hi Thanks for this great video, I plan to go see the Total Solar Eclipse ( April 82024) and flying into Dallas is the cheapest ( from Chicago) and also to visit a friend in Houston area. So I wanted to see what the drive would be a bit like. I was concerned about the terrain being very "rocky" like near Austin, geez that ride from the airport was gridlock! This was so helpful. Good luck to everyone on our Roads in our beautiful country.
Nice on I 45 North from Houston to Dallas. I been on I 10 from Houston to San Antonio
when you look at dallas videos vs houston. Houston looks like a concrete jungle.
Can u do i10 west to san Antonio next?
I see why they say “Everything is bigger in Texas”, because it’s a long drive from Houston to Dallas
San Antonio to El Paso is a long drive
@@MasonColemanWright1234 Lol, honestly I forgot about that
Texarkana, TX is closer to Chicago than it is to El Paso.
@@frank-qf9pm Texarkana is closer than Little Rock
El Paso is closer to Los Angeles than Orange Texas
2:03:48 ...June 2023... The most ferocious storm that I've ever driven in knocked down those electrical towers. Power lines stretched across the highway at ground level and slightly above stopped traffic in both directions for 7.5 hours. I've noticed since that the towers on both sides of the roadway have been replaced with two towers on each side that appear lower in height.
Ive heard that Oklahoha and Kansas are considering extending I 45 up US highways 69 and 75 to Kansas City from Dallas
Great scenery ride. I do think they should rise the speed limit to 70 past spring, Texas.
3:21 Sounds like science fiction movies from another planet
From the beginning of I-45 in Galveston to Downtown Houston, the I-45 is known as the Gulf Freeway. From Downtown Houston all the way until the interchange with I-20 in Dallas, the I-45 is known as the North Freeway. From the interchange with I-20 to its end in Downtown Dallas, the I-45 is known as the Julius Schepps Freeway.
To locals
I'm going to Galveston from Dallas on Saturday
Just a straight shot down Interstate 45. You may cover the whole highway.
I’m in Galveston
Question: Do you look at the Powerlines or do you just drive?
Long drive from Houston to Dallas.
Can you please do another one, except now you do it from Dallas to Houston?
Just play it in reverse
hey yo ! texas knows how to party ! what a great clean place to live ! lets do these videos in 12k !
Will the rest of 45 be at least three lanes per way?
👍
The highway of death , never seen so many accidents
How do you get the HELL OUT OF TEXAS , good song by George Jones, let me ask you
How in the hell did you get from
HOUSTON to DALLAS with out
A traffic jam is amazing to
Me. I live in Dallas and it never
Happens, must of been during
COVID, only time traffic has been that lite.
1:40:45
1:12:29 That'll wake you up
Dallas to OKC next?
Probably going to do Arkansas and then Oklahoma.
Right! Used to live in Little Rock before I moved to Dallas. Taking I-30 East ain’t that bad.
I meant West to Dallas. My Bad
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been up and down this particular highway, I’d be a millionaire. And no, I’m not a truck driver.
Houston looks very dirty compared to Dallas.
The neighborhoods surrounding Downtown Houston are very run down. Mainly the northern ones.
Well cuz it’s way bigger
@@allstar2709no that’s not the reason at all😂
Dallas is just a cleaner citt
Umm Maybe bcuz everyone tours to Houston littering everywhere And no one really cares to go to Dallas so it should remain clean 🧼🧽 🤷🏿♂️
@@KingAsa5lol. It just looks that way. If you're including the metro area's. Houston stands with any city in America. You should CZcams housing in Houston if you actually think it's dirty. Houston subdivisions will blow the top of your head off on how nice and legit they are
100 liker 🥇
3:36:19
Which is bigger Houston or Dallas?
Houston is bigger, but Dallas/Fort Worth has a bigger metropolitan area.
The metroplex area has got to be one of the U.S. most expansive freeway systems.
Dallas-Fortworth is bigger
@@KingAsa5it depends if you mean people. Houston by itself land area and highways and all that other stuff is BIGGER than Dallas-Fort Worth combined😅 sorry to be the one that told you
And not only Dallas-Fort Worth, but all it's suburbs as well
6:46 too much traffic! Missed cut! Why?
It could get worst then that my friend...
If only they stopped putting so many damn lanes
It’s great to see a portion of Texas highways without those ugly access roads. One of the worst things Texas did was built access, service, feeder roads. Not aesthetically pleasing at all and a blight to urban and rural landscapes. Glad no other state does that crap.
You saying that means you don't understand big cities like Houston. Houston is so big, and has places all around, so the feeders are necessary, so you can get on where you need to. Too places and they are all spread out. Houston can grow outward because it's growth is circular, it's not hindered by 180 building like Chicago, or any other city that is built next to water, N.Y. included.
@@AlldatJazz-rw9wy I absolutely understand big cities like Houston. Which is why Houston is one of the ugliest cities on the planet. Every city on the planet gets along fine with these eyesores. The only I mean only good thing about them is to escape traffic. That’s it. Everything is a huge negative. Houston could actually function better without them but it’s to late now. Worst idea ever.
@@StylistecS you seem like you have a issue with Houston, to which idgad, no one asked you like it, and if you think Houston is ugly, then you don't live on earth, because the ugliest city is NY. N.Y. has been the ugliest city for years, but your small mind is just full of hate, and that's sad state to be in. Keep all that hate bottled up, it seems to be helping you with your animosity, for Houston, hope your blood pressure medicine is on hand, seems like you need it....bad! And by the way get help for that mental condition, you need that too.
@@user-xt5ms1eo2e I know this is a little cute rivalry that you all have but outside of Texas, most people see Houston and Dallas the same. Extremely suburban in nature city, low denser sprawling, and car centric with similar diversity. Dallas is nothing. I repeat nothing like OKC. The only thing they have in common is the topography. Outside of that, these two cities are dissimilar.
Inside loop 12 is not to different than inside loop 610. Your comment about adulting is true if you stay in the suburbs. But the city itself is not much different than Houston..
@@user-xt5ms1eo2e very little of Houston gives anyone a tropical vibe. Perhaps you meant subtropical. Dallas is not a small town feel. That’s complete bs. It doesn’t give you any less of a city feel than Houston. Again. Both are sprawling, low dense polycentric, suburban in nature cities. They are more alike than LA is to SF or even Philly is to Pittsburgh.
Stop with the Dallas is better and bigger than Houston. Its NOT!!!. HOUSTON!!!!!!!
Houston is Dallas is damn near the same city... facts... now go to Chicago, NYC or Los Angeles and those cities are 1 tier up from 2nd tier Texas... there's no comparison ... y'all kill me either this those better Dallas or Houston... when I hear that I know you ain't been nowhere else.... facts... Houston is lacking on subway elite systems.... that's a fact.... Dallas public transportstion was far superior.... I did love Houston's frenchy's chicken but you get damn near run over by crackheads when you get out of the car..... 🤣🤣🤣
@@michaelwright131dude the only reason N.Y. is big is population, it's not big by land as Houston by a long shot. Area wise Houston is bigger than N.Y., and crappy Chicago. I did my history on my city compared to other, and land wise Houston is big, and spread out. N.Y. is trashy, and always has been.
@@AlldatJazz-rw9wy I'm not talking about size I'm talking about quality of life and especially mindset.... Houston is a great city just like Dallas but DC, NY, and los Angeles, San Fran, is lit... there's no comparison... 🤣
@@michaelwright131 your wrong there too. Your just hating on Houston, because the quality of life, and mindset of NY is shit. They have rats, as big as dogs, and your talking about quality. Especially now with all the illegals living in NY, with no space, they just piled on top of the rest of the squalor. Stop it, your just looking for reasons. Do you, but ain't no way in heck, is NY or any other place rn, better than Texas, if what said had any truth, people wouldn't be moving here.
@@michaelwright131 and all of them places are worst, than Dallas or Houston. You must be blind, or live under a rock. Homeless taking craps in L.A. and san Francisco, D.C. high crime rate (as always), your full of it.
