  • Review of touchscreen monitor for use in audio production in a recording studio. Using the daw such as logic, Ableton, protools, reason, cubase, fl studio, GarageBand, reaper, and studiolive. Behringer, Focusrite and Steinberg make audio interfaces for monitor speakers, mixing and mastering, Music that sounds amazing. you can use the touchscreen monitor for eq, compression, reverb and a variety of settings in the daw. It's a convenient way to work on audio, but is it not perfect.

Re: the size of buttons etc, thats because those apps are designed for computers. ipads and iPhones have separately built apps for this reason. I know what you mean though, i use my ipad with Cubase and Reason and lots of the buttons are too small. But i found the solution (it was in my hand), if you've for the apple pencil, it works fantastically man. - seriously i can't begin to describe how good it is in my DAW. You know how in reality you still have to type quite a bit, numbers, naming tracks etc. ? pencil does it. Also, when you use your fingers i find its really hard to window something without it thinking you want to zoom or pan etc but withe pencil, fingers to all zoom and panning, pencil does everything else.

Hi thanks for the video....good to see someone trying a touch screen for mixing that's isn't 7 years old on CZcams.
I use two iiyama 27" touch screens running side by side....this give me 43 channels at once in Reaper.
The buttons are easy to use and my line of sight is not covered...no more than using hardware.
It's a shame that your video is using such a small monitor which is useless for touch screen...as most DAWs don't size the GUI for touch.
I think your experience on a larger screen would be very different.
It's very sad that the use of touch screens gets put down so quickly, it's almost luddite in its thinking.
In my opinion we should be able to use all DAWs with touchscreens and stop making excuses not to use them...after all most other industries from shops to hospitals use them every day without problems.
It's just the DAW makers will not spend any time developing their software to use with multi touch screens.
I can mix just as fast on a touch screen as with mouse and keyboard, it's the DAW that lets me down.
If anyone out their uses Reaper or any other DAW with touchscreens without any issues i.e. resizing the arrange window, zooming in and out of the waveform please let me know.
    Cheers Phil

Hi Phil, does the iiyama have an adjustable stand to alter the angle of the monitor? I'm using the Acer 27 inch touch screen but I'm thinking I'd like to buy a larger screen due to the issues shown here. You really do need a large screen to interact accurately with a touch monitor

This is really interesting, because it shows how much DAW companies could help touchcontrol users by making their software properly usable.
Just for your information: all your complaints are totally valid and are instantly gone if you would have an interface by e.g. Touch OSC. Ideally a custom made Touch OSC interface. That’s a software built for touch control, through and through. Highly responsive, multi touch - and NEVER any problem with button sizes, haha. Because you can design your own mixer/custom GUIs. It’s not for everyone, i know, but i love it (actually i built a looper for bitwig for it - can be seen on my channel).

Good points, these are the issues inherint in UI designed for mouse we take for granted. I had an all in one with touchscreen and simply keeping my arm up to touch everything was too tiring, it woud be better layed flat but wasnt designed for that. That being said I found the touch convenitent for cetain things like closing windows, especially on Windows OS where its conveniently a nice big square in corner and you cant miss it , little things like that I was glad to have it for but not so much for everyday use. Miscrosoft paint from win7 did recognize the10 pts touch screen on this old all in one aswell and let you draw 10 lines with your fingers at the same time, so im sure today DAW's could let you drag more than 1 slider if they wanted too but none of them really designed their daws for touch. And people shamed windows 8 out of existance, which it was trying to be a touchscreen OS... we'd have touchscreen friendly software by now if that didnt happen... oh well.

Along with this, you can also use your mouse with touch where mouse can do 10% of your work and touch with 90% of the rest, however, you wouldn’t get much use out of your larger screen then aside from analysis. The touch screen will save you tones of time and fatigue from using it mainly over a mouse. Subjective and objective for the time and touch.
I do this for my job on a touch screen daily.
Thank you for this review. I will be buying the larger version. Isn’t this screen advertised to do 10 point touch?

You need a specific UI for touch. Touch cannot work with default desktop apps. For instance, on a Microsoft Surface, the OS changes the UI (add some space between buttons, etc.) when you disconnect the keyboard and use touch.

Umm, using a Passive (Capacitive) Stylus pen on your touch screen would literally solve most of the issues you have using your finger. Precession, ability to see changes, visual confirmations with 'mouse overs', etc, etc. I know it's not as quick as using a finger, especially while playing keys/music with the other hand, but i've seen people hang pens from their screens for quick access.
This type of stylus, and your finger, can not be differentiated by the touch screen; in return, it has all the precision of a mouse. Just as any stylus, used with a tablet, has all the precision of a mouse.
