@Princeton Lucian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@@tdcattech I just bought it today and loving it. Thank you. But type C only connection doesn't work on my PC. I've to use both USB and hdmi cables. Any thoughts?
USB-C is an industry standard connector but it has many roles. Different laptop manufacturers choose to implement different support. For example, USB-C could just carry good old USB 2.0 though it is capable of much more. Check your laptop and look for a lighting symbol next to the port. If it has that, it supports Thunderbolt which means it will probably carry power and potentially video too.
I have been using for over 1 year as an extension for my Dell Latitude. I have been using it with USBc and mini HDMI. The main use has been expanding my programming windows or reading tech docs. I have no problems really and nothing to complain about I agree with all you said except the 2 cables ( Obviously does not look as neat as 1 USB cable , but when set up for the day there is not a practical problem) and the brightness which I do not have a problem with even using it with a huge south facing window behind it. Not be using it for graphics work or gaming so no observed problem with colours.
Agreed. I still use this monitor every day for my day job when I’m working from home and it’s excellent. The colours are poor on it but for most of what I do in the day, it just doesn’t matter. Bigquery, Excel and Teams don’t really need perfect colour rendition. 😁
One thing I think needs mentioning with these portable monitors is how dim they are after waking them up. Most of them are super dim, so every time you wake it up you have to navigate the menu to turn the brightness back up, and it can be a major pain depending on the menu.
Great review because you focused on the fact that it is good choice if you dont need great resolution or great speakers. I got it for $239. Also for windows users an ipad works but kinda sucks as a second monitor, even if you pay for duet display
I still use this every day for work. The colour rendition is poor but it's perfect in every other way for a work from home setup. How's the colour on the OLED version?
I enjoyed your review as I'm looking to get a portable monitor for remote working, just for exact reasons you mentioned. Lack of space, need something movable, i.e. for dining room table etc. Need HDMI port for my set up. Have been comparing different models, so liked what you said about the larger bezel at the bottom raising it up out of eyeline if book etc. Hadn't considered that before. And that you showed the charger, kickstand flap and screws/hinges on the back as you never see these normally. Plus your comment about it being glossy and not matte - again, something I hadn't picked up on. One area you didn't cover is what connection you might need to make touchscreen active, as I think it's only over USB-C. It would be very useful to understand that side of it when working out whether worth paying extra for a touchscreen model. Would be interested to see you review the AOC 16T2 as this is similar but has built in battery. Waiting for this to be released in UK before I make my final purchase decision.
That's an interesting one. I must admit that all my testing was over USB-C with my work laptop so I'll have to check how this works on HDMI. Let me get back to you.
Great review. I don't know if I missed it in the video, but how does the stand work when going to portrait? I know you said the wires were a bit cumbersome but is there a seperate stand for portrait?
Thanks for the feedback. The stand has an angled edge on one side and opens out enough to support the screen in the portrait position. It's not as flexible as landscape but it works.
I am planning to buy TD1655. Does pen included with monitor needs battery? How good is battery life? I am planning planning to buy this monitor. My main objective is to take notes.
Thanks for creating the review. Very helpful. Do you know if this can be used with a USB-C to USB-A cable and still provides video and power through the single cable?
I read on Amazon review that the touch screen only works if we setup the ViewSonic as mirror image to the main machine its connected to (instead of extended monitor) . Is that correct? Thanks
If your USB-C port can deliver power, it just needs the one cable. You have to be careful on that front though as you could have a USB-C socket on your laptop that doesn’t support anything beyond USB2 but still uses the connector.
please review the " ThinkVision M14t USB-C Mobile Monitor with Touch Screen " and also make the comparison video of these two monitors. thank you for the great video.
I just received mine and it's not working with my iPad Pro or my smartphone. No signal whatever combination of cables. Really frustrating. At least it works with my MacBook Pro but I won't get the full use I was expecting. Do you have advice for Android users?
I'm wondering if the phone's graphic chip would be able to handle such a large monitor. It would be great if someone would do a full test on that aspect: will the extra computation overload/overheat the phone. That's on top of assuming that you're connecting the monitor to an external power souce and that power is enough, of course.
hi Sir very nice review. I have only two questions please. As a musician who reads a lot of music sheet, I have to carry a lot of books which is very annoying. My question is , if I put all my music sheet in a pdf format on a pendrive, will it be possible for me to open it on the Viewsonic TD1655 ? Of course my pendrive uses both usb type c and a. Second question, it it possible to connect via bluetooth or only through cables? regards bruno
No. This is only a display so, in that respect, it’s no better than a TV from the 1980’s 🙂 except it’s much slimmer, more convenient and connects easily. It only connects via cables (HDMI or Thunderbolt / USB-C display)
I think you can only do this with the Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter which is a more clunky setup than if you used this with a suitable USB-C port on a laptop that carries display information.
Can it be ideal choice to use mac mini m1 + this portable display to dev apps on IDE like xcode and VS? and will be travel friendly? or should I spend more money and get a mac book pro with M1? I want both travel friendly and less costly option that why I need someone's thought on this setup.
Imp question, plz reply sir If i use hdmi for video and type a to type c cable for power, then will touch works or not? Some one in other review is said that will not works. Plz answer
Hello Sir good video, I am just wondering how you both powered and received AV signal through one cable? I just bought this monitor and I have to use two cables for it to work with my laptop, which is annoying. Any tips?
@@The_Mister Thank you for your reply Brian. The power shortage probably comes from my laptops USB C port not being powerful enough. I have tried different cables but none of them seem to work. It is particularly frustrating because I literally spent £2500 on my laptop but the USB port is garbage haha, but that is my own fault for getting AMD instead of Intel.
Hello, how do I connect it to USB-C, since it does not turn on from my notebook only with the usb-c cable, I have to connect at least two cables to make it work and always hdmi.?
No. It’s powered by USB. That might be from USB-A ports on your laptop together with HDMI for video or the somewhat neater one cable solution of USB-C carrying both video and power. NOTE: Just because you have a USB-C port, does not mean it carries power or video. You need to check your laptop specs for that.
