I wanted to take a look at the Flyers offseason moves under Danny Briere, which seems to be undoing some of the past work of Chuck Fletcher. All that and more on today's NHL hockey video!
Vancouver still can't get over 1994, Mark Messier, or even the draft lottery in their expansion draft way back in 1970. That's a team and fans that can't let anything go.
After some of his trades and signings, there were people in the organization saying "I had nothing to do with it, I said it was a bad idea". That's BAD
Chuck was by far worse. Wasted picks and salary on past their prime players. He buried this team. Hextall at the very least got us out of cap hell, and brought in some much need draft picks. Danny Briere has his hand full. I just hope Comcast can show more patience with Danny than they did with Hexy.

I do think Danny gonna do a good job he started with actually admitting we needed a rebuild which is good happens in every organization and the fact he's trying to undo what fletch did shows he never would have done what fletch did gives me the idea he has an idea what this team needs I respect it but only direction is up from here go flyers!!
The keyword here was "hopeless", which WASN'T used to describe Detroit (for the reasons you mentionned). "Bad" here merely means not good, or like he said, unable to win a series. You can substitute "bad" for "mediocre" if you want, it doesn't necessarily mean absolute bottom of the league, just not in the top 1/4 or 1/3 of the league, which does describe Detroit (for now).

Plus it'll take a toll on the confidence getting 40-50 shots a night and he'll be out of the league a lot sooner if he stays in Philly

We are no where near contention, so giving younger guys a chance and churning the roster a bit should be good for the future of the franchise.
The St. Louis deal was rumored to involve Kevin Hayes and supposedly was held up by a player with a no trade clause, so that list includes Binnington, Buchnevich, Faulk, Krug, Leddy, Parayko, Saad, Scandella (7-team no-trade list), or Schenn. I can't imagine any trade in which they give up Kyrou or Thomas. Honestly have no idea why StL would want to trade ANY of those players for Hayes, but if I had to pick one it might be Brandon Saad. None of it makes sense to me really, since most of them are defensemen and 2-way forwards, and StL is really lacking in defensive depth.
@@collinduffield Yeah, I heard that later. Makes me wonder why StL would want to do that since Krug is their solid PP QB, unless they were looking to Philly to retain salary on Hayes so they could go after Karlsson.

As a lifelong Flyers fan since the early 80’s, I can write a book on the mismanagement of this team over the past decade. Don’t get me wrong, Fletcher is a terrible GM, but the problems go deeper than his incompetence. Owner Ed Snider got Cancer around 2013 and that is when he really gave up control of the team. Comcast installed Dave Scott as the new CEO yet he was not a hockey guy. He and Valerie Camillo ran the whole organization into the ground. He would never OK a rebuild so every offseason they would put these band aids and the DeAngelo signing was exhibit A. Even Hextall’s tenure was marred by this idea of rebuilding through the draft yet refusing to clean house so Giroux, Vorachek and Simmonds would be in their 30’s when they were ready to win again. Briere is literally trying to clean house and I believe this team will look totally different the day after the draft. For the first time since I can remember they have a plan and building a young nucleus that will grow together. There’s no guarantees as every rebuild isn’t 100% successful in sports. But the Flyers organization was like an alcoholic who couldn’t admit they had a problem. We got past step #1 and Comcast cleaned House including the CEO. Now the next step is to rebuild this thing. I’m actually looking forward to a Flyers season for the first time in a decade even though it won’t happen overnight.

As a long-time Flyers fan, Flutcher was the worst. Briere is at least trying to undo his mistakes and getting some worthy picks and players out of a bad situation we've been in the last few years.
Flyers signed Deangelo for 2x$5M? Holy cow that might be the dumbest signing of all time. This guy is a league minimum player with his baggage and only should be on a team with strong leadership that can keep him under control.
Fletcher should've been fired years ago. He saddled this team with some bad contracts from top to bottom. The Nicolas Deslauriers contract is the worst. Why pay for a 4th liner on a 4yr deal with a modified no trade clause. If this team was a contender sure but this deal made no sense last year.
Chuck Fletcher was incompetent. Clearly leaned on the wrong people & the decisions show that. I’ll be honest, DeAngelo was a lowlight last season. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out
DiAngelo was on a one year contract for 1 mill because the Canes were the only team willing to do even that. Fletcher made himself look bad by trading anything for him...

Half the moves GMs make in the off seasons are to try and undo trades that didn't work out.
Plus, Briere is a former Flyer.
Don't really want DeAngelo back as a canes fan lmao
As a long-time Flyers fan, Flutcher was the worst. Briere is at least trying to undo his mistakes and getting some worthy picks and players out of a bad situation we've been in the last few years.
Chuck was absolutely awful as an NHL GM. Briere is righting the ship slowly. And hopefully our new jerseys have great names on the back again soon
lol, no
As a flyer's fan, the team desperately needs a rebuild and I believe this is the best course of action to build for a successful team
Yeah that one was wild I really think the worst one is sanheim not a fan of the Hayes contract either
Dumping Torts would be the best move…
Chuck Fletcher is a generationally bad GM, ruined every team he's been a part of
Hoping D ends up in Columbus because him and Sean Avery are the only ones I’d be happy with getting kicked by their coach
Lots of trash he needs to get rid of. He at least seems to have the foresight on pinpointing those that need to be shipped of in a rebuild.
I love Danny - and for the first time in my 55+ years on this planet, I'm a supporter of the Flyers.
