    I have the Zeiss Batis 40 and the Sony 50 2.5 G plus the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8. I think I’m sticking with those three for my needs in this focal length range. I had high hopes for this lens but 516 grams is still kinda heavy. What Sony really needs is an updated 50 1.8, something like a 50 1.8 G, small and lightweight with fast linear motors and high optical quality and under $1000. Nicely done video, it was enjoyable and informative to watch.

      @aarongolden Před rokem +3

      The 55 Zeiss is quite light already though, probably the aperture ring and weatherproofing that makes the G master heavier, might be worth it.. I’m considering upgrading but not sure if it’s worth it either

    I absolutely love this lens, I looked at both the 1.2, and the 1.4. and if you are doing video you are gonna love the smaller, lighter 1.4

    This is gonna be my first GM. Can’t get here soon enough. I was considering the Sigma, but it’s size and CA make me look towards the Sony instead.

      I ended up getting the 50 GM 1.4 instead of the Sigma 50 1.4 DG DN for the same reasons. The main reason is that the Sigma is big and heavy just like their 35mm 1.4 DG DN. I also ended up just getting all GM’s for my pro work with the exception of the stellar Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN beast lens!

    Love the video sequence! Ahh...if only the 50mm F1.4 came out when I bought the 50mm F1.2 GM. I would've gotten it due the same filter size as my 24 and 35mm GM lens.

    Excellent look at the Sony 50mm/1.4 (as always) and yes, I would very much like to get your input/experience with this lens compared to the Sigma 50mm/1.4 as well. Thanks much.

    Would you recommend upgrading to this from a 55mm Zeiss Sonnar/Sony 1.8? Awesome video as always dude 😊 currently I have the 55mm and 25mm Zeiss lenses but not sure if I’m missing out with the G master selection of glass

    • @lenividivici9123
      @lenividivici9123 Před rokem +1

      They are both good lenses, even though the GM just has that little edge autofocus performance wise. In my experience the Zeiss lenses look EXTREMELY clinical, which highly depends on taste. The GMs such as the 24 1.4 have really pleasing characteristics (for me personally at least) and the 50 1.4 seems to be very alike. I'd say if you're not bothered by anything your current lens does, stick to it and invest the money elsewhere.

    Love love love your image edits. It's moody without being over the top, very subtle. By all accounts, looks like another winner from Sony. I am a Sigma fanboy myself, but the weight/size savings is significant. Great take on a great new lens!

    Great video as always. Would love a comparison between this, the new Sigma 50mm f1.4 and the Saymang 50 1.4 mkII.
    Interestingly, you chose the same setting for the outdoor shot Tony Northrup used for the infamous 50mm f1.2m EOS R "toneh" video. Is that on purpose? Cryptomnesia? :D

    I love this lens ... the same like 50/1,2, but the newer 50, is better for travel. With 1,2/50 I was concerned about smashing it somewhere - it's not lens, which you often change without fear

    Honestly this is the type of video I needed. I'm a beginner with a A7C and a kit lens 24 to 60 4-5.6 so this helped me decide to buy this! A little worried about the focus breathing but I'll just have to figure it out. I would love to see that comparison video between this one and the sigma if that's still on the table! You got my sub

    I'm really torn between this and the 2.5. Mobility of 2.5 is very tempting while quality of bokeh of the 1.4 is nice too. If only they have a 1.8 G that'll be an instant buy for me

    may sound like a first world problem, but I actual have a 50mm f1.2 GM, bought significantly below normal market price. Means I could switch to the 50mm f1.4 GM without losing or gaining any money. As money is not on the pros or cons list in this case, I'm torn whether to do the switch or not. f1.2 still seems to be a bit superior in image quality, doesn't it? But the idea of carrying around less weight is very intriguing... Any recommendation?

    • @temujen
      @temujen Před rokem

      Same situation- leaning towards doing it as the extra 1/3 stop isn’t really a game-changer for me personally. Having a lens that weighs 1/3 less however, is a major consideration.

    You know, I'm jealous of Panasonic 1.8 S lens where they all the same size and weight and minimal focus breathing. But when I compare the prices. I noticed that the GM is just a little bit more money than the Panasonic S lens for 1.4 aperture versus 1.8 aperture.

    Dunna! Another belter of a video!! Love the storytelling aspect you have developed as real world examples of how the lens ‘sees’ the world. Love your work, Dude! Have you also experienced any focus breathing on the 24mm F1.4 GM? I can see that you would not be a fan of that in the 50mm F1.4 GM from a video angle and I’m curious how you get around it, if at all. I’d also LOVE LOVE to see your review of the Sigma 50mm F1.4 and a comp video between the Sony and the Sigma. I am growing to be a Sigma fanboy as I feel they have significantly upped their game, however I’m **always** keen to see and hear Dunna’s thoughts. Thankyou Bro! 👊🏾😁

    • @Chow0012

      Focus breathing is worse on the sigma lenses and if you have one of the new sony bodies, you can use focus breathing compensation (works only on Sony glass) which eliminates focus breathing

    I’ve been eyeing Sony 50mm F1.2 GM for a while. I already have 24mm and 35mm F1.4 GM lenses. I guess my purchase decision comes down to whether I want to have trio of 24mm, 35mm and 50mm F1.4 lenses or 50mm and 85mm in F1.2 lenses when Sony releases mark II version of 85mm GM. 🤔
